A conservative columnist in the United States has accidentally turned himself into a meme after complaining about a supposed meal that he paid for in Newark Airport which cost him $78. David Brooks, who writes for the New York Times, tweeted an image of a burger, fries, salad and a beverage which he claimed cost him $78. Brooks wrote on X/Twitter "This meal just cost me $78 at Newark Airport. This is why Americans think the economy is terrible." However, things soon backfired on Brooks after the restaurant itself, the 1911 Smokehouse Barbecue, noted that the tab was corrected but 80 per cent of the bill was made up of Brooks's drinks orders. On Facebook, the venue wrote: "Looks like someone was knocking back some serious drinks - Bar tab was almost 80% and he's complaining about the cost of his meal. Keep drinking buddy - we get paid off everything." The clapback has since been added as a community note to the post which continues to go viral. In fact, it's gone so viral that the post has now spawned its own meme with others sharing mock images of meals that they pretended they paid $78 for. Here are some of our favourites. A local man in South Carolina named Randolph White has become an internet sensation, complete with his own remixes, after recreating the sound he heard when the missing F-35 stealth jet crashed near his home. Earlier this week, the US military appealed to the public to help them find the expensive missing plane following a "mishap" that saw the pilot eject from the jet, which carried on flying regardless. Although the missing jet inspired plenty of memes it was eventually found having crashed in rural South Carolina. However, the story has now taken on a new leaf thanks to Randolph White. Speaking to an NBC affiliate, White, wearing an iconic straw hat and what looks like a security vest, said that he was "in the bathroom taking a shave" when he heard an almighty sound takeover his "nice and quiet and peaceful" area. He added that the noise sounded like a cross "between a screech and a whistle" and in a moment that few people would have expected began to recreate the sound himself. “I said, ‘What in the world is this?'” he continued. “And I heard a boom! Then my whole house shook.” White admitted that he thought a meteorite had crashed into the Earth but added "well if it was an airplane, it needs to be reported because that thing was flying just too low." A day later helicopters started circling the area which White thought "somebody must have robbed a bank” or “killed some people or whatever. So, I walked up there, and they told me it was about the plane." The interview has since been viewed more than 4 million times after it was shared by Barstool Sports on X/Twitter. White has now become a viral sensation and his mesmerising interview has now been given several remixes which are well worth your time. A prominent influencer who boasts over two million TikTok followers has been arrested for eating pork in Bali. Lina Lutfiawati turned to the platform with a video of her eating crispy pork skin, while reciting the Islamic phrase "Bismillah" meaning "in the name of God" in Arabic. The clip that reportedly showed her screwing up her face while chewing on the meat, was reported in March, but she was later charged in May. AFP has since reported that she was sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty by a court in Palembang on September 19 of "spreading information aimed at inciting hatred against religious individuals and specific groups". Lutfiawati, who identifies as Muslim, is also required to pay a $16,269.22 (£13,228) fine. If not paid, her sentence could be extended by a further three months. Pork consumption is strictly forbidden in Islam. At the time, it was reported that Lutfiawati was travelling in Bali, where she tried the meat out of curiosity. Following the verdict, Lutfiawati told local a news station: "I know that I am wrong but I did not expect this punishment." Human rights groups have been vocal about the blasphemy law used to charge Lutfiawati. Usman Hamid, executive director of Amnesty International Indonesia, said: "It contravenes Indonesia’s international obligations in relation to respect and protection for freedom of thought, conscience and religion or belief, freedom of opinion and expression." Kick streamer Adin Ross successfully fooled fans after claiming to have secured an interview with Kim Jong Un leading to a reported record for the platform. Earlier this week during a live stream, Ross said he had the North Korea leader "locked in" for chat which will go live in the next 48 hours. He claimed US officials had warned him against the so-called interview, saying: "We definitely got government officials hitting up my legal team. No, I swear to god, it's not that. It got millions of views on Twitter and it's on TikTok and s**t. They see everything! The government sees everything." He continued: "They saw and hit up, basically, my team and they just let me know there could be consequences for this. You know?" Ross even shared a list of planned questions he intended to ask the leader, including: Thoughts on LGBT? Can you give Stake money back? React to Andrew Tate. Visit North Korea? Later in the stream, Ross invited Andrew Tate into the stream – who was just as confused as everyone else. "Let me tell you all a story," Tate said. "You know like I had no money at all and I was growing up in Luton on a council estate with a single mother and no money?" History buffs on Facebook were left convinced of time travel after a black and white photograph originating from World War II appeared to show a man speaking on a mobile phone. In the image, the conspicuous figure could be seen leaning against a shop front on a crowded pavement amongst locals as well as US army soldiers deployed there. According to The Sun, the image was taken in Iceland’s capital of Reykjavík in 1943 – long before the invention of the portable telephone devices. The first mobile phone, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X, was sold in 1973. The man who appeared to be holding a device to his ear was dressed in a light-coloured coat, wore a flat cap and was looking in the direction of the camera that captured the image. The picture which has sparked conspiracy theories of time travel was shared by its owner Kristján Hoffman on the Facebook group Gamlar ljósmyndir, which translates to “Old Photographs”. Hoffman wrote on Facebook: “The American army is taking over Icelandic splendour, as you can see. “One thing that draws attention to this beautiful picture is that above the window, in the corner in the middle of the picture, a man is leaning and is on a cell phone.” The post sparked a lot of debate online as people gave their different theories. One person suggested the man was simply scratching his ear, while another said he was holding his watch up to see if it was working since the man is standing outside a watch shop in the image. Adin Ross, one of the most-watched streamers on the internet, is claiming that he will be interviewing North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on his channel on Wednesday evening. The controversial streamer who has previously collaborated with Andrew Tate and has also been banned from Twitch for a string of offenses. Ross is hitting the headlines again for claiming that he is due to interview Kim Jong Un on his streaming feed despite being apparently warned not to go ahead with the talk with the North Korean dictator. During a stream earlier this week, Ross stated: "I'm getting it in today's stream. I have to address this s*** now," he said. "Listen... okay, Kim Jong Un is locked in (for) tomorrow's stream, at 7:30 Miami time. Okay?" Ross also shared a series of questions that he has planned for Kim which include: Thoughts on LGBT? He also claimed that the US government had been in contact with his legal team to warn of the potentially serious consequences of interviewing Kim. There is little to no indication as to whether this is real or not but Ross has gone as far as to put together poster to hype 'The Interview.' All eyes will be on his stream at 7pm EST to see whether he was telling the truth or if we all fell for an elaborate prank. Who is Adin Ross? Ross started his online gaming career in 2014 when he joined YouTube as a Grand Theft Auto and NBA 2K content creator. He then ventured onto Twitch when as his following grew. His streams have since featured rappers including Lil Uzi Vert and Tory Lanez, who was convicted of assault in December 2022. One of his most prominent Twitch bans was a result of a gambling stream, which the platform prohibits. He claimed his most recent ban is for "no reason". Ross has since moved over to Kick, Twitch's rival streaming platform. The new platform has a looser set of rules, which saw Ross reportedly stream the Super Bowl, sharing video calls of white friends saying the N-word and scrolling through Pornhub in front of his reported younger demographic. In a clip that's racked up over 3.3 million views, TikTok user @soundbowlbae demonstrates how to make the classic cocktail, while making a lighthearted joke about those who order it. The United States military managed to lose an F-35 fighter jet and the missing plane has become an instant meme. On Sunday 17 September, the $80 million F-35 military jet went missing after the pilot ejected from the cockpit during a “mishap” and the plane remained on auto-pilot. The pilot abandoned the plane somewhere over South Carolina and safely landed in a neighbourhood in North Charleston. The plane itself remained airborne and on auto-pilot for some time, making it difficult for the authorities to locate it. Officials have now reportedly found the debris from the wreckage of the Marine Corps jet in a South Carolina field. It follows a day-long search in which the military asked for the public's help to locate it, causing quite a stir on social media. Pretty quickly, people came up with hilarious memes about the plane’s disappearance. One person joked: “Can’t wait to see the new @TomCruise documentary about the F-35 - ‘Lost Gun’.” Someone else said: “It was an $80 million F-35 that they publicly asked if anyone had seen ffs.” Officials have requested that members of the public stay away from the crash site as they investigate what happened. In a statement, officials said: “Members of the community should avoid the area as the recovery team secures the debris field. “The mishap is currently under investigation, and we are unable to provide additional details to preserve the integrity of the investigative process. A teenager who opened their own cafe was left upset after nobody turned up on the opening day. The 18-year-old from near Adelaide in Australia went viral on TikTok after revealing in videos that “nobody came” to the opening of his cafe. Tom Oswald opened his cafe, “Homeboy”, in Hahndorf in July straight after graduating from high school. He has been using TikTok to document the opening of the cafe and the disappointing opening day. In one video viewed more than 1.3 million times, Oswald filmed his empty cafe and the food that was on sale. He was also seen inside the cafe with his head in his hands. Text overlaying the clip read: “Opened a cafe and nobody came.” In the comments, people encouraged the young business owner to keep going and not to get disheartened. “Bro we started 6 months ago stay positive show up for yourself and it will happen!! time is a curse and your friend. trust the process,” one TikToker commented. A woman has been praised in a viral online post after relaying her experience on board a train. After posting on Reddit, she received support for her actions after deciding not to give up her seat in first class for an older woman who demanded she move. The woman was travelling from London to Aberdeen and decided to pay for a first class ticket in order to work better during the journey. After joining the train, she realised her reserved seat was the priority seat in first class. A woman in her 60s then got on the train and demanded that she give her the seat. Writing on Reddit, she said: "I recently got a train across the UK from London to Aberdeen. It's a seven-hour journey so I booked myself a first-class seat well in advance.” She added: "I got on the train in London and sat in my seat. The seat they'd assigned me was also the 'priority seat'. Priority seats are the ones at the end of carriages for people with mobility issues due to age or disability. A woman got on after me who was around 60 years old pointed at the sign above my head and, quite rudely, told me to move because she was 'elderly'. "I told her I'd booked the seat and she'd need to speak to a member of staff to find her one. She pointed out that the train was full and there were no other seats. I apologised but reiterated that I'd booked the seat and wasn't going to move." The awkward situation continued when a guard came over. The Reddit post continued: "Eventually, a train guard came over to try to help. The lady had booked a return ticket, but she hadn't reserved a specific seat. For those who don't know how trains work, if you have a ticket but haven't also booked a seat reservation, it means you can travel on a train, but you aren't guaranteed a seat unless there's one available. "He asked if either of us would consider moving to standard class if he could find us a seat. I again refused, explaining I'd booked the seat well in advance and that I needed it. Eventually, he took the woman to standard class and I assume found her a seat there. "I felt bad, but I also don't think I needed to put myself in severe discomfort because someone else didn't think ahead and reserve a seat." The woman was praised for standing her ground and not giving up the seat she had paid extra for a reserved in good time. One criticised the operating company in the comments section, writing: “The train company are the a******* here. They sold the disability seats as the most expensive seats on the train. Then they tried to get the person who bought those seats to move to standard.” Another added: “NTA- like you said you reserved the seat and needed it for many valid reasons, the lady isn't entitled to the seat you paid for simply because she is elderly.” One more commented: “Train attendant here. NTA. You booked and paid for that specific seat. Crocs shoes have grown massively in popularity and many fans of the foam shoes might be distressed by a rumour that they are being banned in some public places. The clog-shaped foam shoes have become a mainstay in fashion culture thanks to celebrity endorsements and the notorious levels of comfort they provide. It is thanks to their comfort that many people choose to wear them on long flights and on shopping trips where they will be on their feet a lot. But, rumours have begun spreading online that the shoes are being banned in places like airports and malls. One post on X/Twitter, claimed: “Crocs are Being Banned from Airports, Train Stations and Shopping Centres.” Another said: “Many places like airports, train stations, and malls have now banned them on escalators with posted warnings.” “Crocs have been banned from escalators in some airports, train stations and shopping centres after a series of scary incidents,” alleged another post. Is the Crocs ban rumour true? Thankfully, the rumours that Crocs are being banned in airports and train stations are not true and you are free to keep wearing them wherever you choose. However, in the past, warnings about escalators and Crocs have been issued it was revealed in 2006 by ABC that children wearing them were having their feet sucked into the edge of escalators. The report detailed a scary incident in which a child damaged her toe. Other reports have revealed that children have lost their toes and even damaged the ligaments in their legs after their Crocs were pulled down the side of an escalator.
