Tourists slam wax museum for dodgy celebrity figures
Tourists slam wax museum for dodgy celebrity figures
Tourists have slammed a wax museum with dodgy Cristiano Ronaldo and Elton John models among those on display. The questionable lookalikes also include Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and Mark Zuckerberg. Visitors to the Sopot Wax Museum tourist attraction have been left “disappointed” or in hysterics. Portuguese ace Ronaldo is still in a Real Madrid kit despite leaving the Spanish giants five years ago. He has played for Juventus and Man United since and is currently with All Nassr. Elton looks nothing like the retired Rocketman. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie – who divorced seven years ago – are also in the exhibition. Gangnam Style singer PSY makes an appearance – 11 years on from his one-hit-wonder. And Chiquinho Boca Grande – who entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010 for his 17cm mouth – also has his own statue. Other waxworks look a world away from their supposed famous faces. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg donned a curlier-looking hairstyle. Lord of the Rings character Gandalf bears little resemblance to actor Ian McKellen. Other wax works at the Sopot Wax Museum in the town of Sopot, near Gdańsk, Poland include Michael Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. Rihanna and Lady Gaga also feature. Brit Phil, who visited last month said: “Having read other reviews about the museum, we didn't know what to expect but decided to visit as we had nothing else to do. “If this is supposed to be Sopot's answer to Madame Tussauds museum, that is stretching the truth too far. “It was more like ‘The Hammer House Of Horrors’.” One tourist said: “Very poor and disappointing exhibition. “The place is very small with only a few images that mostly do not look like themselves.” Another tourist said: “Kids will enjoy it but if you’ve been to a wax museum before like the one in London you won’t be impressed.” Livid Maria said: “I read the reviews before I went here so I was prepared for the worst, that was why we went here as well. “It was not the figures that disappointed me it was the fact that all. “These figures of Einstein, trump and famous persons were not there. “I don’t know if it was because they were renovating but that was very disappointing because we looked so much forward to it. “We only paid 15 zloty for students so that was not too bad. “It was 20 zloty for adults. “Would not recommend.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Pastor enters cage full of lions to prove he's protected by God
Pastor enters cage full of lions to prove he's protected by God
A pastor locked himself in a cage with three lions to demonstrate his ‘divine protection’ like the biblical story of Daniel. The religious leader even invited his congregation to the animal park to witness the stunt. According to local media, the pastor, whose identity is still unknown, wanted to prove that “nothing can happen to a man of God”. The clip shows the pastor, seen wearing a bright blue suit, stroking the growling lions in their enclosure in Nigeria. At one point, he even puts his arm in one lion’s mouth before looking confidently at the camera. It appears as though the Nigerian pastor was recreating the biblical story of Daniel, who was thrown into a lion’s den and came out unscathed thanks to the hand of God. After the footage went viral, Kenyan MP Ronald Karauri, 45, offered to pay for the pastor to be sent to the Maasai Mara National Reserve to try the stunt with wild lions. The MP said: “I volunteer to take him to the Maasai Mara please, all expenses paid. “We look for the lions and he can go walk with them.” One local commented: “I challenge him to do that at Maasai Mara!” Another said: “Those are not lions, they are lion cubs. Big difference.” Someone else wrote: “Oh Yeah! Lemme bring my dog and lock him up with it for one minute.” Another local suggested: “He went in just after they were fed.” Erik remarked: “Why are the growls added over the natural soundtrack?” Bill commented: “They should have taken him to the wild lions at the Kenyan park, those lions were given drugs.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Woman finds the one app you really don't want to see on her boyfriend's phone
Woman finds the one app you really don't want to see on her boyfriend's phone
A woman has revealed she found an app on her boyfriend's phone that made her very cross indeed. Posting on Reddit, the 29-year-old woman explained that she'd been with her 36-year-old boyfriend for five years but she "went through his phone", only to discover that he'd "made a Tinder profile" and she was worried he was "cheating." She wrote: "We just moved to Minnesota, I relocated to be with him and his family and we have a two-year-old son. So this is really heartbreaking to me. I don't know how to bring up this conversation without it being turned on me for snooping. "I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place because I do love him, but the betrayal hurts so I just need a little advice. So to all who read this, should I just ask him straight out or just let sleeping dogs lie?" In the comments, people suggested that if he wasn't cheating already, he was probably planning to cheat so it would be best to leave the relationship. This is everyone's worst nightmare. Couple buy a four-storey Italian home for the price of a chocolate bar
Couple buy a four-storey Italian home for the price of a chocolate bar
A couple, who purchased an Italian a €1 property in Italy, have said "it changed everything" in their lives. Jeffrey Pfefferle and his partner Leon McNaught found out about the scheme back in 2019 – and two years later ended up buying two houses in Sicily for a combined total of £27,651. The pair opened up to CNN Travel about their decision, saying they "really fought for it from the start." "At Rome Airport, I went into panic mode when we missed the gate for the Palermo flight – luckily we were able to catch another plane later that same day," they said. Jeffrey continued: "It’s been gutted [by the previous owners] and our architect says it’s an easy fix, a blank canvas. "The electrics are fine, and the plumbing is done." They went on to discuss the "better quality of life" in the Mediterranean which for them, "values people above money." "A place that embraces a slower pace, giving more priority to the important things," they said. “We are surrounded by a community that have shown us extreme caring and kindness. "It’s a place that has taught us that time is our utmost prized possession and that time is meant for living, and living it to the fullest with those we love and care about.” It comes after another couple couldn't afford to buy a home in the UK – so they purchased an entire farm in Italy instead. The Le Marche farm was initially on the market for €200,000 (about £170,000), but the pair managed to negotiate the price down to €160,000 and bought it outright with their savings and £50,000 of loans. Woman divorces ghost husband Edwardo and now claims he's stalking her
Woman divorces ghost husband Edwardo and now claims he's stalking her
A woman who made headlines after ‘marrying’ a ghost has revealed her former lover is stalking her – after they famously ‘divorced’ earlier this year. Brocarde, a singer and songwriter from Oxfordshire, fell in love with Edwardo – the ghost of a Victorian soldier – in late 2021 after he appeared in her home. But after a rocky marriage marred with cheating allegations and him often ‘ghosting’ her for days on end, Brocarde called it quits this summer, having an exorcism to rid herself of the spirit. She enjoyed a few “blissful” months without Edwardo before becoming suspicious that the ghoul had re-entered her life – allegedly disguising himself as other identities. While the singer has been attempting to move on with human men, she claims her ex is haunting her. “I thought that I’d started a new ghost-free chapter of my life,” Brocarde told NeedToKnow.co.uk. “It wasn’t until I started to think about moving on that disturbing and creepy things started to happen. “I embarked on a post-divorce trip to Paris to find myself and I ended up finding ‘Fabienne’, or so he called himself. “I was walking down the banks of the river Seine chasing the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, cowing under my umbrella as raindrops poured off it, and then it struck me, glistening in a puddle – the reflection of a French man. “I tilted my umbrella back but nobody was around, I looked back towards the puddle the man was clear as the ocean.” Brocarde claims the ghost appeared to be a chef who introduced himself as Fabienne and then followed her home. She said: “A holiday romance with a Parisienne ghost [was] surely too good to be true. “He later revealed himself as Edwardo – it was a honey trap all along. “I couldn’t believe I’d been catfished by a ghost.” Since then, she says Edwardo has continued to harass her under the guise of being different spirits. She added: “After the French encounter Edwardo ghosted me again. “I cautiously started to go on dates with living humans. “I returned home from a date with a bunch of flowers, and Edwardo thought it would be amusing to pull the heads off all of the roses and scatter the petals on my bed. “He’s even learnt to play Careless Whisper on the saxophone – I mean, at least I think it’s him, the sound echoes in the distance sometimes when I’m taking a bath in candlelight. “He’s getting really jealous of the fact that I want to date a modern man. “He knows I no longer find his uniform attractive so he’s going to extreme lengths to pull me in, he’s even given himself a modern make-over and presented himself as a Ken doll," she continued. "I thought I was going crazy when the image of him with cropped blond hair and a pink suit appeared, I could tell it was him though as his gaunt harrowed eyes locked into mine and slowly he merged back into a rugged Victorian soldier.” While Brocarde is eager to move on with a living man, she said she has been told she has a “special gift” that helps her connect with the dead. And while she is open-minded when it comes to the spirit realm, she has been left horrified by Edwardo’s antics. The singer added: “It’s terrifying, that’s why I wanted him exorcised. “A medium told me Edwardo would always be with me and that’s a thought that I can’t come to terms with. “I feel now I’m not consenting of Edwardo’s presence and I’m having trouble getting him to disconnect from me.” For now, she’s focusing on her work as a singer-songwriter, and has released a post-divorce tune ‘Just Another Anthem’. Brocarde added: “I feel now it’s the time for me to focus on my singing and songwriting – Edwardo has provided me with a ton of inspiration, so that’s something to thank him for. “Moving forward I feel like I need a bit of flesh on my bones. “Skeletons and dead men may seem hot but in reality, they are stone cold, unpredictable and scary.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. OnlyFans model shares five reasons adult creators are 'marriage material'
OnlyFans model shares five reasons adult creators are 'marriage material'
Lari Sumpani recently hit the headlines after winning the Miss BumBum 2023 contest and now aims to challenge how people view women who share saucy snaps online. In addition to tackling stigma around adult industry workers, the 24-year-old has also shared five reasons why she believes her profession would actually make her a “great wife”. "I really want to get married, but because of my work, I have difficulty finding men who want to commit to women like me,” Lari, who is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and has 330,000 followers on Instagram, (@eusumpani ), told Nude PR. "They are insecure.” 'We keep things spicy' First on her list of great partner qualities? Keeping things interesting. Lari said: “A woman like me will always propose new things to spice up the relationship.” 'Travel the world together' The model travels across the globe for her job and says a partner would benefit from this – since they could join in on these adventures. She said: “As OnlyFans models travel very frequently for recordings, [our partner could come along]. “I have already travelled for work to countries such as Belgium and France.” 'It's all about honesty' Lari believes that adult models are more honest open partners – because they already share who they are so much with fans online. In short, there’s nothing to hide. She said: “We will always be sincere.” 'Sex, sex, sex' The model has previously revealed that she has sex for three hours a few times weekly, which keeps her fit and “men love it”. So it perhaps comes as no surprise that “sex time” falls in fourth place on the list of why she’d make a great wife. She said: “It is one of the most special points. “Sex is a super important reason, because there will definitely be innovation with toys, costumes and different positions.” 'Money isn't a problem' Lari, who rakes in the cash from her saucy career and modelling, says finances will “never be a problem”. She said: “Adult content producers who keep their finances organised have money in their pockets. “The medium is profitable and this means that money will never be a problem for the couple.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. This optical illusion is seriously confusing people
This optical illusion is seriously confusing people
People have been left bewildered after viewing an optical illusion of a spinning lady, as they try to figure out which way she is turning. Optical illusions have long been a favourite of the internet, sparking numerous online debates in the past from the 'Yanny or Laurel' audio, to the black/blue and white/gold dress. The reason we're often so interested in optical illusions is because what we see or hear challenges or disagrees with physical reality. Aude Oliva, a cognitive scientist from MIT, told Popular Mechanics that "the human brain is really tuned to learning new things. Anything that is new and surprising is something we naturally like because it mean we may learn something from it." The 'spinning lady' illusion was first posted to YouTube in 2018, asking viewers, "Which way is the lady spying? Left or right? Or both?" Many left comments sharing what they could see: "I had to watch it multiple times to see both," one user wrote. "My brain naturally sees her turn clockwise. But after watching it enough, if I change my focus it can change her direction." "At first I thought both, but when I focus on the eyes, nose and mouth as she spins, I just see her spinning left (clockwise)", wrote another. One user even said that the lady is "NOT SPINNING at all!" But rather "SWINGS like a pendulum!" Man faked his own kidnapping to cheat on his girlfriend
Man faked his own kidnapping to cheat on his girlfriend
An Australian man has been exposed for faking his own kidnapping as an extreme excuse to cheat on his girlfriend. Paul Iera from New South Wales almost faced jail for his lies after sending a text message to his then-partner saying he was being held hostage by "unknown Middle Eastern males" over a $7,000 dirt bike. The text read: "Thank you for sending Paul to me, now payback is a b**** bye bye." It continued: "But I'm going to be fare [sic] OK, we will keep him with us until the morning wen [sic] he gives us his bike we call it square, no one's touching him my word I'll give you hun OK." Like most concerned people, Iera's partner called the police, who launched a "high-risk vehicle stop" and spent 200 hours trying to locate the man. They later found him in his own vehicle and obtained footage of him with a sex worker. According to 9 News, Magistrate Michael Ong said: "You chose to send alarming, frightening messages to your partner so you could get some extra time with another partner. "You thought that would be a great way to do it. Any reasonable person would have gone to the police and that is exactly what happened." "You are at a point where you need to make a choice. You either take a step back, look at yourself and your circumstances and move towards furthering yourself, or alternatively you will move into a situation where imprisonment will be a very realistic option." Iera was fined AU $16,000 (£8,400) for wasting police time and an additional AU $550 (£280) for firearm offences. He was also reportedly sentenced to a concurrent 18-month Community Correction Order (CCO) for possessing an unauthorised firearm, possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit and possessing ammunition without a licence. Expert reveals why you should never film 'plane drama'
Expert reveals why you should never film 'plane drama'
'Plane drama' has become the centre of attention in recent months since Tiffany Gomas was harshly branded the 'crazy plane lady' following her outburst on an American Airlines flight. In July, the marketing executive became an internet sensation for claiming "that motherf**ker back there is not real," while pointing towards her seat. The footage went on to birth TikTok trends, merch and conspiracies. Gomas has since apologised for the incident and her "use of profanity," and shared plans to raise awareness on "mental health and standing up against cyberbullying" going forward. Her outburst was later followed by a British boxer who made headlines for trying to get off the plane mid-flight. Then, a third encounter saw influencer and former Bad Girls Club star Morgan Osman go viral for telling a fellow passenger, "Film me, I’m Instagram famous, you f**king bum." Well now, a safety representative for the Federal Aviation Administration has urged people to not record such incidents on flights, as it may create more harm than good. "If someone's got a cellphone in your face, it could make the situation worse," Trey Walters told Insider. "If a flight attendant, for example, is trying to attend to a passenger that's having an issue, having people reaching their hands out in front of that person's face, trying to record the situation definitely creates added risk." The former pilot went on to suggest that attempts to get footage could distract flight attendants from calming down situations. Walters also emphasised it is always "inappropriate" to film passengers with medical conditions, including the recent "biohazard issue" from a passenger who "had diarrhoea all the way through." Some X/Twitter users have said that while the story was initially funny, it could be seen as ridiculing someone for being ill. 'Scandinavian sleep method' hailed as a saviour of marriages
'Scandinavian sleep method' hailed as a saviour of marriages
People think a “Scandivanivan sleep method” might hold the key to a successful marriage after trying it out. No matter how much you love someone, sleeping in a bed next to them has the ability to be rage-inducing if they have a tendency to steal most of the duvet for themselves. Now, a phenomenon popular in Scandinavian countries, such as Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, is offering up a solution as couples sleep with two twin-sized duvets rather than one large one. The sleeping method is sweeping social media and has seen many hailing themselves as new fans of the system TikToker Erica Stolman Dowdy has gone viral on the platform, suggesting that it “could save marriages”. In the video, she explained she and her husband love visiting Copenhagen and she wanted to give their own home a Scandinavian-inspired makeover. This included getting two twin duvets, as Stolman Dowdy explained: “In Copenhagen, not once have I slept with one duvet. It is always two twins and we sleep so good. “No one’s fighting over blankets. Nobody’s too hot or too cold. It’s absolutely amazing.” @ericastolmandowdy the Scandinavian sleep method is an absolute game changer. 10/10 recommend ☁️ #scandinaviansleepmethod #danishdesign #danishinterior She continued: “This is just absolutely the comfiest way to sleep. I 10 out of 10 recommend it. It could save marriages.” In the comments, someone wrote: “Not me realizing I sleep with the Copenhagen method already and my husband and I LOVE it.” Someone else said: “Once you sleep with two comforters…you will NEVER go back to only one!!!” “Ohhh that’s such a great idea!” another person wrote. One TikToker wrote: “Legit started doing this last year and it is a GAME CHANGER. Influencer breaks down in tears after strangers reject her offer to pay for their shopping
An influencer was left in tears after her offer to pay for someone’s food shopping was rejected on camera. TikToker Amelia Goldsmith wanted to do a good deed and filmed herself in a supermarket approaching shoppers and offering to pay for their groceries to “cheer someone up”. But, things did not turn out as she had expected after she was shut down by multiple customers. Goldsmith was in a branch of Sainsbury’s when the incident occurred. In a TikTok video, she could be seen approaching a shopper with the offer. The man told her: “No, no, no. I really don't need it.” Another woman told her, “There's a lot more deserving people in the world but thank you,” adding, “I feel too guilty for taking it.” Instead, Goldsmith resorted to buying some dried pasta, rice and sauces and putting them in the store's food bank collection. Tearfully speaking to the camera, she said: “That was stressful, guys. That was really stressful.” @millyg_fit in hindsight i can see why people can react differently to this, but my intentions were purely to brighten up someones day💕 i’m still super happy with what I ended up doing and i’ll do more of it for sure #storytime #vlog #makesomeonesday #foodshop She continued: “I was expecting the first person to be, like, overjoyed and grateful and happy for me to pay for their shopping, but obviously that didn't go down well. “He was a little bit angry. I was a little bit taken aback and then - I'm gonna cry, to be honest - the second person, she just sort of looked at me like I was some absolute idiot weirdo.” She went on, explaining that it was a “challenge” for her to approach people because she finds social situations “really quite hard”. In the comments, other TikTokers suggested that next time she should try it in a different supermarket. Someone argued: “You need to go to a cheaper supermarket like Aldi or Lidl. People who shop in Sainsbury’s can afford it.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy.
