The FaZe Rain and Grace Van Dien controversy explained
The FaZe Rain and Grace Van Dien controversy explained
FaZe Clan is one of the world's most popular professional esports organisations, with members such as Twistzz, Olofmeister, Rain and now former Stranger Things actress, Grace Van Dien. The actress-turned-streamer is one of the group's newest recruits, and while many were thrilled by the news, some were left feeling confused. Some suggested Van Dien has limited gaming experience, and others have critiqued the collective for prioritising a celebrity status over a professional gamer. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter FaZe member Rain has been particularly vocal about the group's decision, leaking the surprise to his 3.1 million followers. On her stream, Van Dien hit back: "I’m sorry sir, were you in the meeting with us? Were you there?" "No, I’ve never f**king met you and that is not why FaZe signed me. That is definitely how I got the meeting, yes, I will give that credit. That is how I got the meeting." She continued: "But, that is absolutely not why I’ve signed. The things that we spoke about in the meeting are why I have. So, get f**king wrecked to everyone saying that, to Rain saying that. Like, you weren’t there, you have no idea." On 28 May, people accused Rain of going "too far" after sharing an explicit rant about Van Dien that he later apologised for: The comments sparked a response from the actress, who brought up Rain's previous issues with drugs. "I know you, Rain, as the person who almost overdosed on a live stream," she said. "And I know that you’re better now, and I’m really proud of you for that. I am." The back-and-forth led to the pair meeting, which fans believed would have settled the conflict. During their discussion Van Dien reference an old tweet of Rain's from 2013 that made a violent suggestion about actress Emma Watson. In the end, Van Dien left the room crying and threatened to leave FaZe if the video was uploaded. In a statement from the official FaZe Twitter account, they wrote: "FaZe is no stranger to contrasting viewpoints and passionate opinions on the future of the brand. Recruitment has always drawn that out. But make no mistake, the mistreatment of our newest member is in no way OK. Grace joined in hopes to bring her voice to FaZe & we stand by her." UberEats customer refuses to take order from driver who asked him for cash
UberEats customer refuses to take order from driver who asked him for cash
Food delivery apps can make life that little bit easier with quick, accessible options from a wide range of restaurants. However, one customer experienced an awkward interaction with their Uber Eats delivery driver, who refused to deliver his order unless he paid for the petrol. In a post to Twitter, lawyer Exavier Pope shared the string of texts and tagged the official Uber support account. "I'm gonna run outta gas. Can you Cash App me a few bucks for gas, please? I had no idea u were that far," the initial message to Exavier read. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The driver then proceeded to contact Exavier via text, writing: "Yo, it's your Uber driver. I can't make it to you unless I can somehow get gas money." "This is harassment," Exavier tweeted while giving live updates to followers. The saga continued when Exavier hit back and called his behaviour "unprofessional" after the driver attempted to call him five times and repeatedly asked for money. Exavier did "not feel safe taking the order," and asked the driver to leave the food outside. "I am about to call the police on this dude," he said. "Thank you for bringing this to our attention," the Uber Eats account tweeted. "Behavior like this is definitely not OK! A member of our team is on top of this and will follow up with you via in-app as well as to the email address associated with your Uber account." Exavier responded: "It was definitely a harrowing experience and something I do not want to experience again. [This was] a person coming to my home pressuring me for money. My lawyer brain is active on this." Indy100 reached out to Uber Eats for comment. Have your say in our news democracy. Piers Morgan responds to bizarre AI image of him in the bath
Well, we’re not sure how we ended up here, but Piers Morgan has responded to a strange AI image of himself in the bath which has been circulating online. The presenter commented on the odd picture which shows a generated version of Morgan sitting in the tub, holding a book with a rubber duck by his side. Only, this version of Morgan looks like he spends all his free time in the gym and he’s holding a book with dimensions that defy the laws of physics. Morgan responded to the bizarre image by writing: “I never have baths. fyi.” Unsurprisingly, the picture sparked a lot of reaction on social media, with one Twitter user responding to the pic: “I still can't unsee it - the horror!!!!” Another said: “My brain will never erase this image.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Others pointed out the strange nature of the book in the image, with one saying: “The way the book looks in the picture seems to give it away that it is AI generated.” Another joked: "Give me nuclear annihilation by AI over this any day.” It has to be one of the most unusual uses of AI we’ve seen so far, and if this is the future of artificial intelligence, count us out… AI, meanwhile, continues to make headlines – and a group of individuals including Grimes, who described herself as an "AI popstar" recently on social media, signed a statement warning of its risks to humanity. The singer signed the message from Center For AI Safety (CAIS) delving into the potential dangers of AI. Have your say in our news democracy. Teenager wins historic cheese rolling race despite being knocked unconscious
A woman won a cheese rolling competition despite knocking herself unconscious during the event. 19-year-old Delaney Irving fell whilst pursuing a 3kg Gloucester cheese wheel down Coopers Hill in Brockworth, near Gloucester. Irving said she didn’t realise she had won the race until she woke up in the medical tent. Speaking to BBC News, the 19-year-old said “I remember running, then bumping my head, and then I woke up in the tent. I still don’t really believe it, but it feels great.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Hundreds took part in the event this bank holiday, coming from all over the world. Irving, who is from Vancouver Island in Canada said that the race was “good… now that I remember it.” Matt Crolla, 28, from Manchester won the first race of the day, telling the BBC that there is no way to “train” for the sport, saying “it’s just being an idiot.” Some viewers called participants “mad,” whilst others congratulated Irving on her win, seeing the fun side of the sport. Kyla Hill of Team Cheese, the group of volunteers who help organise the event said the event has put Brockworth village “on the map, makes us a bit famous, draws people in from over the world.” Have your say in our news democracy. Husband smashes beauty queen's crown after wife loses contest
Husband smashes beauty queen's crown after wife loses contest
A beauty pageant was cut short over the weekend after a furious husband jumped on stage and smashed the winner's crown. Miss Gay Mato Grosso 2023, an 'LGBTQIAP+' pageant in Brazil, came to a halt on Saturday (27 May) when Emannuelly Belini was crowned the winner. Footage showed Belini leaning over in disbelief when her name was announced, but before the tiara was placed on her head, a man grabbed it from the host and threw it on the ground. Local media outlet Globo claim it was the runner-up's husband. Pageant coordinator Malone Haenisch has since spoken out and said the man "did not consider the result to be fair and caused all this inconvenience and damage." Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter "We vehemently condemn the incident that occurred at the time of the crowning of the elected Miss Várzea Grande," she told the publication. "When the partner of Miss Cuiabá, who was classified in second place, invaded the stage and aggressively destroyed the crown," she continued. However, Haenisch said the judges were fair, adding: "We confirm the pageant jury’s choice and we sympathise with the elected Miss, as well as [Becker], as she is not responsible for the crazy attitudes of third parties." It comes after Daniela Arroyo González made history earlier this year as the first transgender woman to compete for the title of Miss Universe Puerto Rico. Taking to Instagram to celebrate the good news back in February, González said: "The emotion and pride that I feel in this moment overwhelms me with joy." "Having the courage to dream big and follow your heart always leads us to success or in the best case it leads us to change the world to a better one." "It's time to show how far we can go," she concluded at the end: "This is my time." Have your say in our news democracy. Influencer event sparks outrage for 'distressing' animals
A nightclub in Australia is reportedly being investigated after hosting a wild influencer party with reptiles and baby crocodiles. Two Wrongs in Melbourne relaunched over the weekend with an invite-only bash, welcoming the likes of model Morgan Waterhouse and influencer Britt Reukers. Photos from the night were reportedly shared to the club's official Instagram page on Saturday night (27 May) but were seemingly removed. Images showed internet stars posing with snakes and kissing baby crocs. The RSPCA has since spoken on the matter, saying that the setting would have been "highly distressing" to the animals. "The environment the animals were in is highly likely to have been distressing to the animals and will likely have caused an excessive disturbance for them, particularly for reptiles who are sensitive to vibrations and loud music," they said, as per AU News. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The Instagram account 'Aussie Influencer Opinions', which has since gone private on the platform, reportedly screenshotted and shared the controversial posts online. They were soon inundated with comments from outraged followers. "Use of animals as a promotional tool in an incredibly frightening environment for them is disgusting and cruel," one follower wrote, while another added: "Passing around animals in a bar is just cruel. Great rebrand." Meanwhile, a third commented: "Taking a domesticated animal, like a cat or a dog, to a club would be extremely cruel – but to be taking wildlife, reptiles at that, is insane." "Literally disgusting! People and companies will do anything for publicity these days," another added. Indy100 reached out to Two Wrongs nightclub for comment. Have your say in our news democracy. Verified AOC account causes confusion after Elon Musk 'crush' admission
A verified Twitter account related to Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known as AOC, has caused confusion after the account tweeted that she had a crush on Elon Musk. The account, which has over 90,000 followers, does state it is a parody account, which is required if the user has paid for Twitter Blue and is pretending to be another individual or company, as per Twitter’s rules. However, because the Twitter display name is so long - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Press Release (Parody) - sometimes the “parody” can be cut off, especially if the tweet has been quote retweeted. Which makes confusion much more likely. On Monday, the account tweeted: “This might be the wine talking, but I’ve got a crush on @elonmusk”. The tweet has over 50,000 likes, and now has a community note letting viewers know that the account is a parody to try and clear up confusion. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The tweet came as a surprise to many who thought it was an official AOC account, seeing as the Congresswoman has publicly criticised Musk on multiple occasions. Musk himself even replied to the tweet with a simple fire emoji. Many didn’t get the joke at first, with a lot of Elon fans/AOC haters seemingly getting annoyed at the fact that AOC would want to date Musk. Others criticised the account’s existence all together, saying that it was rooted in the right’s misogyny and hatred towards AOC: This is not the first time the parody account has gained a lot of attention (and confusion). Previously government officials from Ted Cruz to Laura Loomer have interacted with the account not knowing it was a parody. Have your say in our news democracy. MrBeast pits people aged 1 to 100 against each other in new video which cost 'millions'
MrBeast has just released one of his most expensive and creative videos ever that almost broke a YouTube record and has been showered with praise for the quality of production and the amount of money poured into it. The 25-year-old YouTuber, the real name Jimmy Donaldson, has returned to one of his big-scale projects for his latest video after recently embarking on philanthropic endeavours such as helping people see and hear again. His new video was very different in comparison as was similar to something that you might see in Squid Game. It involved 100 contestants aged 1 to 100 all trapped inside clear plastic boxes. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The idea is to see how long they could all last while inside the boxes until only one contestant remains with challenges arising to whittle down the players quicker. The winner will receive $500k as a reward. The video clocks in at 25 minutes and all things aside it is a genuinely well put together and compelling watch. Ages 1 - 100 Fight For $500,000 www.youtube.com At the time of writing, the video has been viewed more than 43 million times on YouTube which Donaldson claimed almost broke the record for the number of views on the platform within 24 hours. In the comments Donaldson added that he and his team had spent "millions of dollars and months working on this video, I hope you all liked it." It's fair to say that it has gone down well with his fans. One person wrote: "This is one of the best Mr. Beast videos ive ever seen. It had the competitiveness and drama that we expect from challenges but added great representation throughout all the ages and some amazing emotional and heartwarming roller coasters. Well done!" Another added: "This is by far my most favorite challenge from Jimmy!" A third said: "This was actually epic. Way to take elements of other reality shows and make it your own." We won't giveaway any spoilers but its worth sticking around for the entire video which has both a tense and wholesome ending. Have your say in our news democracy. This four question IQ test will reveal how smart you are
This four question IQ test will reveal how smart you are
At some stage in everyone's life, it would be nice to be considered intelligent or at least in possession of a high IQ. You can take all the IQ tests that you want and read the most complex books available to you but there must be an easier way of gauging how smart you are. Luckily for you and me, the great folks over at AsapSCIENCE have identified four questions that could help determine how much intelligence you possess. They assess your emotional intelligence, your verbal and non-verbal abilities, your musical-rhythmic intelligence and your visual intelligence. Sign up to our new free Indy100 weekly newsletter To partake in this mini-quiz watch the video below and listen carefully. How did you get on? Harder than you thought they would be, right? Well, as you may have noticed, there isn't one particular way to understand just how intelligent you are, as IQ can cover multiple traits and subjects. So, while you might be really clever at recognising whether the tone is right in a piece of music, you may have difficulty identifying the correct shape in a line-up of many. Of course, there is a chance that you got all of those questions right - but don't feel disheartened if you didn't. Intelligence can come in various forms and is sometimes assisted by your personal background and upbringing, and can't always be easily pinpointed through an IQ test. Google Street View catches couple 'having sex' on roadside
A suspicious couple appear to have been caught in the act - on Google Street View. The man and woman were standing on a vacant plot of land full of rubbish. The duo apparently travelled to the secluded area on a motorbike to enjoy a frisky encounter away from prying eyes. The woman appears to be half-naked while the man seems to be zipping himself up. They both seem to notice the Google Street View car. The couple was caught in the act in the neighbourhood of Paseo de Santa Fe, Juárez, Mexico. Google uses vehicles equipped with high-resolution cameras to capture every corner of the planet for their Street View service. However, the cameras occasionally capture people in compromising situations. In Mexico, residents have been filmed brawling, face planting the ground, and taking part in sex acts by the roadside, along with other unflattering incidents. Those captured in awkward situations by the cameras can ask Google for the images to be removed. Offended citizens can fill out a form in the Google support section and mention that the images were published without their consent.

'Airpods' spotted on performer at 2008 Olympics
A throwback clip from the 2008 Olympics has stirred up a debate over a time travel conspiracy theory as someone appeared to be wearing an AirPod - despite the earphone launching years later. In the clip posted by Justin (@yessirbrother) back in 2020, he noted in the caption how he had been "just appreciating the Beijing opening ceremony," when the camera panned to one particular performed which had a white plastic earphone in his right ear yet none of the other performers had this. The shape and colour look similar to that of an AirPod, but given that this product wasn't launched by Apple until eight years later in 2016, people have questioned how it appears to be in a clip from 2008. Someone else added: "That is crazy....No one else has AirPod," and a fourth commented: "YOO I JUST CHECKED ITS REAL." However, those weren't quite as convinced and believed there was a reasonable explanation for this. One person noted: "Bluetooth earbuds existed for a long time before AirPods." "Once again not real.
