Where did the photo of 6ix9ine kissing a man come from?
A new misleading image is doing the rounds on social media but, for a change, this one has nothing to do with AI. Instead, this (very real) photo has sparked a swirl of rumours concerning rapper 6ix9ine’s sexuality. The picture shows 6ix9ine (who also goes by Tekashi69), planting a kiss on the cheek of Mexican singer Eduin Caz, from the band GroupoFirme. It went viral after website Pop Tingz shared it to its Twitter account with the caption: “6ix9ine reveals boyfriend.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The tweet racked up more than 7.9 million views and 3,570 likes in less than a day as streams of commentators remarked that they “weren’t surprised” by the revelation. Except that it wasn’t a revelation at all, just proof of the power of a sensationalist headline. In fact, Caz posted the original picture to his Instagram account to mark the release of a new collaboration between Groupo Firme and 6ix9ine. Their track, ‘Y ahora’, is a love song about… a woman. And if you watch the music video, you’ll see the two men getting up-close and personal with a couple of scantily clad ladies. And yet, social media users love to consider themselves masters of hints and easter eggs, so apparently the fact 6ix9ine sports rainbow-coloured braids is enough to suggest he’s a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Others took the opportunity to fuel the rumour that the rapper has indulged in gay porn – under an alias – and that his sex tape was leaked to the internet. However, according to AllHipHop, the actor in said X-rated movie bears merely a passing resemblance to the rapper. Furthermore, the 27-year-old admitted to having a girlfriend on Instagram just three days ago when he posted a gushing birthday tribute to model Ariiela Lalangosta. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BESTFRIEND [sic] IN THE WORLD,” he wrote in the caption to a video showing him kissing Lalangosta and showering her with cash. “My girlfriend won’t get mad but we just friends she knows that,” he added. Who is Renate Krößner? The actress celebrated in today's Google Doodle
Head to the Google homepage today and you’ll see a flame-haired woman gazing into the distance. The Doodle was created in honour of German actress Renate Krößner, who would have turned 78 today. Krößner was propelled to international stardom after playing the titular role in Solo Sunny – a 1980 East German film about a rebellious singer, which struck a chord with audiences around the world. Her performance was met with universal critical acclaim, earning her the Best Actress Silver Bear award at the Berlin International Film Festival — the first for an East German production. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter For the uninitiated, Germany was split into East and West from 1945-1990: the western bloc was led by the US and the eastern bloc by the USSR, and life on the two sides couldn’t have been more different. The West was a liberal democracy, while the East was essentially a communist state. Permission had to be granted to anyone who wished to leave the socialist territory, which Krößner obtained in 1985. After moving to West Berlin, Krößner became a mainstay on hit West German TV shows and continued to wow film critics, racking up a number of prestigious accolades including an RTL Golden Lion. In 1991, Krößner was a jury member at the 41st Berlin International Film Festivaland she continued acting into the 2000s. She died following a short illness on 25 May, 2020 at the age of 75. But, as today’s Google Doogle proves, her legacy lives on. Have your say in our news democracy. Click the upvote icon at the top of the page to help raise this article through the indy100 rankings.

Mum flooded with support for announcing 'secret' plan to leave husband
A new mum has been praised for her bravery on TikTok after she revealed her plans to leave a toxic marriage. The woman, called Marta (@officialmarta_xo), shared a video of herself decked out in blue scrubs sitting down at a desk and looking determined. In an overlay to the clip, she accused her husband of prioritising his friends over his family, despite her constant pleas for help with their young baby. She wrote: “I've been begging for the bare minimum for MONTHS. He has time for his friends but not his wife.” She also suggested that he was dismissive of her, complaining: “[He] didn’t believe I’d put our newborn in daycare and start working.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter But, she confirmed, she had taken control of her life and got herself a job and financial independence. “Here’s to my first day at work and secret bank account,” she said. In a separate caption, she added: “Can’t wait to move [the f**k] out.” @officialmarta_xo Cant wait to move tf out #forthemen #forthemenonly Marta's video racked up more than 1.5 million views and nearly 130,000 likes in three days as commentators showered her with support or shared their own similar experiences. “Proud of you for this!! It's a huge step that many women including me are scared to take,” one wrote. “As someone who just got blindsided by their spouse with no money to myself… make the secret account. Trying to leave with nothing is so stressful,” another advised. “I got tired of expecting the bare minimum from a narcissist so I left and three years later I started my own business!” a third wrote. “I left with nothing, started from the bottom. I graduate in [seven months]. With a BA. Going for my master's. No regrets,” said a fourth. And a fifth confessed: “I’m trying to leave a relationship. I’m ok with starting from nothing. I had two job interviews this week. Here is to proving I deserve better.” Meanwhile, others stressed the importance of financial backups, even in the case of happily married people, with one writing: “I'm a firm believer of a secret bank account even if the relationship is okay because you never know.” Others offered tips on how to create a secret safety net. “Put the secret bank account in a trusted person's name. Mom or grandma,” one recommended. “Make the bank account a custodial account,” said another. “It can only have one parent on it and that parent stays the custodian of the account when you divorce.” Others expressed concern that Marta’s husband would see her post and that she would suffer as a result. “I hope he [doesn’t] see this,” one wrote. Marta replied simply: “He’s aware.” Have your say in our news democracy. Click the upvote icon at the top of the page to help raise this article through the indy100 rankings.

Beyoncé kickstarted her hotly anticipated Renaissance tour in Stockholm last week, debuting live performances of her hit singles to diehard fans. The star delivered songs from her seventh No 1 album at the Friends Arena, including 'Alien Superstar', 'Pure/Honey' and 'Summer Renaissance' while riding a giant disco horse. She also revived some of her classics such as 'Crazy in Love' and 'Love on Top'. While fans immediately turned to TikTok to watch footage from the gig, some were left underwhelmed by the crowd's reaction. "How could you witness the QUEEN in person and not at minimum do a lil 2 step in your seat," one person hit back, while another added: "Sweden failed her so bad! Some of us were TRYING!" Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter A third person, who claimed to have attended the concert, alleged: "That's true! I was at Stockholm and a girl even tried to shush me." One TikToker, Joshua Pingley (@yourbestfriendjoshua) suggested "Beyoncé hated Sweden," before claiming the crowd was seemingly "older, sitting down and quiet." At a later date in Brussels, she praised fans for their energy adding: "You have been the best audience so far." @yourbestfriendjoshua Beyoncé seemingly SHADES the audience from the first two nights of her Renaissance Tour in Sweden…😂😂😂 #beyonce While harsh critics were quick to slam Swedish fans, many more jumped in to suggest it's simply "cultural differences in concert etiquette." "Not everyone goes feral like Americans," one wrote. "You should see concerts in Japan." "They still spent their money buying tickets to see her," another added. "Why is everyone tripping at them sitting down? They're clearly enjoying the show." "She made that face cause they were hitting the high notes for 'Love on Top,'" a third fan commented, while one TikToker said: "In Sweden we are told not to stick out and be loud, because we see it as rude. it is part of our culture."
