Taylor Swift dances 'like a young Theresa May' in resurfaced clip
Taylor Swift dances 'like a young Theresa May' in resurfaced clip
Taylor Swift’s music video for the 2017 song 'Delicate' has earned her a rather surprising comparison – former British prime minister Theresa May. The video, which has more than half-a-billion views on YouTube, features Swift dancing through a room full of smartly dressed people as the song plays in the background. But a post on X/Twitter has gone viral after comparing her to “a young Theresa May”. And they may have a point. People who take an interest in British politics could scarcely forget the moment when May, at the 2018 Conservative Party conference, walked on stage to Abba’s Dancing Queen. Her accompanying dance was one for the ages, and drew more than a little mockery on social media at the time. It was, in fact, a tongue-in-cheek reference to a widely shared video of May on a trip to South Africa months earlier, when she danced with a group of school children. Swift may not appreciate the comparison – though there are certain similarities between the two, and Twitter users were quick to point this out. U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May dances to ABBA's 'Dancing Queen' www.youtube.com One person replied to the post: “Watching that with the sound turned off... It just looks like someone being weird!” Another wrote: “I'd appreciate it if you refrain from being this accurate again.” And one other person replied: “The same elegance. The same flow. Truly transcendent.” Looks like Swift might need to go back to the drawing board on some of those moves. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Bedbugs 'spotted on the London Underground' in alarming footage
Bedbugs 'spotted on the London Underground' in alarming footage
A video of what appears to be a bedbug crawling up a passenger’s leg on the London Underground has gone viral. The clip, viewed more than 1.7m times since it was posted this week, shows a small brown insect crawling up the trouser leg of somebody sitting on the Victoria line. The passenger wrote in the caption: “Minding my own business on the Victoria line, a f*****g bedbug is on my leg. “Said he’d got a great deal on the Eurostar and wondered if I could take him home. No!! Sort it out, Transport for London.” @lassogold Minding my own business on the victoria line, a f**king bed bug is on my leg. Said he’d got a great deal on the eurostar and wondered if I could take him home. No!! Sort it out @Transport for London #bedbugs #bedbugslondon #bedbugsparis #tube #infestation TfL was forced to quell fears that the bedbug epidemic in Paris could spread to London last week, after the situation in France reached fever pitch. The French government held an emergency meeting to discuss the infestation, after a number of social media clips showing the insects on metro trains, in cinemas and in hotels caused hysteria online. Meanwhile, during a French National Assembly meeting, one opposition MP even took out a vial of bedbugs while calling for action. And Air France, which operates up to six direct flights a day from Paris to London, said it will ground any aircraft if bedbugs are detected on board. @morethancleaning Reply to @helenav88 checkinv for bed bugs #bedbugsbites #bedbugs??? #morethancleaning #bedbugsinhotel According to the French health and safety agency ANSES, one in 10 households in France has had a bedbug infestation between 2017 and 2022. TfL last week said: “We are not aware of any outbreaks in London, but we will monitor our network and continue our rigorous and thorough cleaning measures, which have been proven to maintain cleanliness both inside and outside our trains. “We are committed to providing a clean and safe environment on the Tube for our customers and staff, and we would like to reassure our customers that we continue to maintain our already high standards of cleanliness, so our staff and customers can use the network safely and with confidence.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Woman discovers wedding website of the man she's dating
Woman discovers wedding website of the man she's dating
Dating in the age of the internet can be a nightmare, with people finding out they are being cheated on via Facebook groups to being ghosted out of the blue for being a virgin. For one unlucky woman, it was through a Google search that she discovered the man she had been seeing for a month and a half was actually engaged to be married, after finding his wedding website with the details of his upcoming nuptials. TikToker Ellen Smith (@ellenelizsmith) went viral on the platform after revealing her ordeal after stumbling across the information about the man she was dating. In the video, Smith explained: “If you’re having a bad day, just remember that you could have accidentally found the wedding website of the man that you’ve been seeing for six weeks, on Google." Smith continued: “So, it could always be worse for you, not for me. Stay blessed.” @ellenelizsmith men are trash #zola #weddingfail #datingfail #theaudacity Judging by the comments, it seems that, unfortunately, hers is not a unique experience, as other women shared their stories of discovering their partner was a cheat. One person commented: “I found the wedding website of my then-husband while I was deployed.” “I was talking to a guy who told me he was going home for a wedding… it was HIS wedding,” another said. Someone else wrote: “I did that. Then sent them a gift from their registry.” Another admitted: “Ooof!! I was the fiancé who found his Craigslist ads for casual hookups with men.” The whole ordeal had some in the comments questioning the point of marriage, with one person saying, “I no longer believe in marriage…because men”. Bride divides internet after charging guests £2,000 to attend her wedding
Bride divides internet after charging guests £2,000 to attend her wedding
A bride has annoyed people of the internet by charging guests £2,000 to attend her nuptials. Reportedly posting on Mumsnet, one of the guests claimed she had been invited to stay at a villa with the bride’s family and friends and was asked to split the cost for a week regardless of how long she could stay. She wrote: “The thought of spending a week socialising in a villa feels overwhelming, particularly when I don't know anyone and everyone else is in a couple, so I was going to stay only four nights.” So, she asked to share a room with another guest to cut costs but the bride didn't take it well. “She started crying and said she was upset because I have never been enthusiastic about her wedding plans (which is true, when she first asked for my villa deposit, I had asked a few times about other accommodation options),” she explained. After complaining, the bride reportedly refused to talk to her friend and the pair later ended up embroiled in a "heated discussion". The wedding guest was allegedly told: “It's clear the time/cost/venue etc. is asking too much of you and if it had been the other way round, it wouldn't have even crossed her mind to think about these things.” The woman's deposit was returned but she was still unsure about going to the wedding. She wrote: “She has always been quite selfish but I'm really upset by her lack of understanding as to why I don't want to spend a week with strangers and that I really did want to speak about the wedding. But at the same time, I know weddings are stressful and maybe she was trying to be sensitive. “Truth be told I'd rather go to a school friend's wedding on the same weekend who I feel like is a much better friend.” Responding to the situation, one commenter reportedly wrote: "The friendship is already over I'm afraid. I wouldn't go. I'm sorry." Another added: "It sounds like the friendship is going to survive much longer anyway." While a third said: "You shouldn't have to fund someone else's wedding."
