Inter Milan players can hold their heads high after losing the Champions League final to Manchester City, boss Simone Inzaghi has said. City had a glorious night at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium as they beat Inter 1-0 with a 68th-minute Rodri strike. Inzaghi admitted that his side does have regrets but he had to congratulate his players. “They are very sad, disappointed, but they must be proud of their campaign and the final they played. Italian special forces have secured control of a Turkish cargo ship that was attacked by armed stowaways off the coast of Naples on Friday, 9 June. Twenty-two crew members were aboard the ship, named Galeta Seaways, that was on its way to France when “unidentified people” were detected on board. Defense minister Guido Crosetto said special forces lowered themselves onto the Turkish ship from two helicopters to free crew held by around 15 stowaways, two or three armed with sharp objects. Mr Crosetto confirmed in a tweet that the ship’s hijackers were captured.

Rishi Sunak described the stabbing attack in the French Alpine town of Annecy as “unfathomable”, adding that his thoughts were with all those affected. An eyewitness has described the scene that unfolded when several people, including children, were injured in a knife attack in Annecy, southeast France, on Thursday (8 June). At least four children were injured, with two in a life-threatening condition, Reuters reported citing local police. France’s interior minister Gerald Darmanin tweeted that a suspect has been arrested. “The attacker stabbed once and the grandfather fell on the ground and that’s when a police officer fired at the attacker, but he jumped on the grandfather again and stabbed him... then finally the police immobilised him,” former Liverpool player Anthony Le Tallec told BFMTV.

A University of Nottingham study found that, in the absence of someone in the driving seat, pedestrians trust certain visual prompts more than others when deciding whether to cross in front of an autonomous car.

The meeting between the president of Ukraine and the UK’s foreign secretary in the war-torn nation’s capital came amid signs the expected Ukrainian counter-offensive against the Russian invasion may have started. Mr Cleverly spoke of how much “life” has returned to Kyiv, having previously visited in the winter when it was “cold and dark”. “The Ukrainian people are not going to allow themselves to be broken by this,” he said of the war.
