This SNL sketch featuring fake excerpt from Britney Spears' memoir has caused outrage
An SNL sketch that featured a fake excerpt from Britney Spears' memoir is causing a stir, after many claimed it was 'mocking' the trauma the star had been through. In the clip, comedian Chloe Fineman takes on the role of Britney, while her co-stars 'audition' to be the audiobook reader. Ice Spice (played by Punkie Johnson), The B-52s‘ Fred Schneider (Bowen Yang), and Martin Scorsese (Timothee Chalamet), all took turns to mockingly read chapters - including one fake account of 'Spears' sleeping with someone when she was young. Breakthrough device cleans dirty water and turns it into fuel
Breakthrough device cleans dirty water and turns it into fuel
Scientists have built a breakthrough device that can clean dirty water and turn it into clean hydrogen fuel. The “simple” device could be used in areas without resources or places where people live off the grid. And it is just one example of the many solutions that will be required to respond to pollution and give people access to both clean fuel and water, the researchers behind it say. The system is inspired by photosynthesis, the process where plants turn light into food. But previous versions of those “artificial leaves” have required clean water sources – whereas the new device can be used with polluted water and even produce clean drinking water at the same time. As such, scientists believe that it could help solve two problems at once: making green fuel and cleaning water so that it is ready to drink. “Bringing together solar fuels production and water purification in a single device is tricky,” said Chanon Pornrungroj from the University of Cambridge, the paper’s co-lead author. “Solar-driven water splitting, where water molecules are broken down into hydrogen and oxygen, need to start with totally pure water because any contaminants can poison the catalyst or cause unwanted chemical side-reactions.” The system uses a carbon mesh to absorb light and heat, creating water favour that is then turned into hydrogen for fuel by a photocatalyst. That carbon mesh also repels water, so that the system can float and its important parts can be kept from being damaged by water. The device is also able to harness more of the Sun’s energy than previous examples, which have used only a small portion of the spectrum of light. The new system has a white layer on top to absorb UV rays, with the rest being used lower down to vaporise the water. “This way, we’re making better use of the light – we get the vapour for hydrogen production, and the rest is water vapour,” said Dr Pornrungroj. “This way, we’re truly mimicking a real leaf, since we’ve now been able to incorporate the process of transpiration.” The researchers behind the breakthrough noted that the system was simple to make, and was especially able to deal with very polluted water. As such, it could be a key way of working towards a sustainable future, they said – even though it is just a proof of concept for now. “The climate crisis and issues around pollution and health are closely related, and developing an approach that could help address both would be a game-changer for so many people,” said Cambridge’s Erwin Reisner, who led the work. The device is described in a new paper, ‘Hybrid photothermal-photocatalyst sheets for solar-driven overall water splitting coupled to water purification’, published in Nature Water today. Did Bill Burr's wife, Nina Renee Hilll, actually flip off Trump?
Did Bill Burr's wife, Nina Renee Hilll, actually flip off Trump?
A video of Nia Renee Hill, actor, producer, and wife of comedian Bill Burr, has gone viral after many viewers believed she was flipping off former president Donald Trump. But was she actually aiming the gesture at Trump? During a UFC event at Madison Square Gardens, Trump arrived just before the featherweight fight between Diego Lopes and Pat Sabanti. As the former President walks through the seats, Hill can be seen sticking both her middle fingers up. Many believe Hill is directing the gesture at Trump, however she doesn't seem to be looking at the direction of the 77-year-old, rather looking into the cameras. Burr and his wife have both been critical of Trump and other Republicans, such as presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis. Hill hasn't spoken on the now viral clip, so there's uncertainty on whether or not the middle finger was aimed at Trump. Regardless, it has social media pretty divided. Trump supporters were unsurprisingly critical of Hill's gesture that they believed to be aimed at the former President. One Twitter/X user called Hill "disgusting": Whilst another called her "nasty": But critics of Trump called his supporters "hypocrites" for calling Hill names whilst "put[ting] f*ck Biden flags up for kids to read." And many seemed to love Hill's supposed message for Trump: The rest of the UFC crowd, however, seemed happy with Trump's appearance as he entered the arena alongside his son, Donald Jr., Kid Rock, and Tucker Carlson. Despite the ongoing fraud trial regarding The Trump Organisation, he seemed to be in high spirits. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Chrissy Teigen has hilarious reaction to wardrobe malfunction at Baby2Baby Gala
Chrissy Teigen has hilarious reaction to wardrobe malfunction at Baby2Baby Gala
Chrissy Teigen had a hilarious reaction to her latest wardrobe mishap. The model, 37, took to Instagram over the weekend to share a snap of her outfit at the 2023 Baby2Baby Gala. For the occasion, she opted for a black dress with a high-knee slit adorned with a sparkling 3D flower decal. She also paired the outfit with a gold clutch and black heels. As she shared photos of the event on her since-expired Instagram Story, captured by People, she revealed that she had a bit of a wardrobe problem during the event. In the picture, she was seen sitting in a chair with her back turned, as her dress accidentally slipped open along its zipper. Teigen, who was bent over in the photo, continued to poke fun at the dress malfunction in the caption, writing: “Oh lol.” This isn’t the first time that Teigen has shared a candid reaction to a wardrobe issue. Back in 2017, fans noticed her shirt happened to be sheer while she was sitting in the stands at the Super Bowl with her husband, John Legend. However, Teigen didn’t hesitate to play the situation off on social media. At the time, per Us Weekly, she simply retweeted the video and wrote: “Boom goes the dynamite.” On 11 November, the mother of four was one of the many famous faces at the annual gala that raises money for Baby2Baby, which “provides children living in poverty with diapers, clothing and all the basic necessities that every child deserves,” according to its official website. The star-studded guest list at the event included Kim Kardashian, Salma Hayek, Olivia Wilde, Heidi Klum, Matthew McConaughey, and Zoe Saldaña. This year, Channing Tatum also presented Hayek with the Giving Tree Award, in honour of the work that her charity has done to help underprivileged children in Mexico. “All children are our children. We have a responsibility. They hold in their hands our future. They are our hope,” she said during her speech, per The Hollywood Reporter. “Dignity is an essential; diapers are dignity, make no mistake. Love is an essential. For all these children and all the mothers and all their families, how can we say ‘Let’s love, not hate,’ but how do you teach compassion and empathy to people who have never felt compassion and empathy from anyone?” Hayek concluded: “So, in everything you donate and everything that Baby2Baby brings to every single home or street, there is an intention. It’s not just money. It is love. It is compassion. It is caring. We are all interconnected.” Read More The Wrong Coat?
