Nasa astronaut claims that aliens have prevented a nuclear war on Earth
Could we have aliens to thank for preventing a nuclear war on Earth? That’s what one former Nasa astronaut has claimed. Edgar Mitchell, who was involved in the Apollo 14 mission, gained a reputation for sharing conspiracy theories when he arrived back from the moon in 1971. Mitchell was the sixth man on the moon and was the Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 14. Before his death in 2016, Mitchell spoke at length claiming that aliens visited Earth. Speaking to the Mirror, he alleged that aliens were responsible for preventing nuclear war between the US and the Soviets at the height of Cold War tensions. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter At the time, Mitchell focused on the White Sands Missile Range facility in New Mexico. “White Sands was a testing ground for atomic weapons – and that's what the extraterrestrials were interested in,” he said. "They wanted to know about our military capabilities. My own experience talking to people has made it clear the ETs had been attempting to keep us from going to war and help create peace on Earth." White Sands Missile Range is where the first atomic bomb was tested in 1945, and Mitchell claimed that officers there had told him aliens had shot down missiles flying over the site. The claims were, as you’d expect, disputed. UFO expert Nigel Watson told IFL Science at the time: "To me, this is just another case of UFO fantasy and speculation. When you try getting to the facts it is like trying to herd cats." Meanwhile, a UFO conspiracy theorist recently described the south pole as an “air traffic control” hub for aliens. A recent discussion centred on the Amundsen–Scott South Pole, which Eric Hecker claimed communicated with “exotic” crafts by sending neutrino rays up into space. Hecker went further by talking about “digital optical modules” buried a mile beneath the surface under the ice. He claims they were buried in order to detect neutrino interactions while being deep enough not to interfere with radiation readings. Have your say in our news democracy. Harry Styles loves audience interaction during his concerts, but one fan was lucky enough to have her baby's gender revealed in front of a sold-out Wembley Arena. The fan had been holding a sign up alongside a gender reveal balloon, when the singer agreed to pop it on her behalf - showering pink confetti across the stage to signal the baby being a girl. He quipped: "Question, what if I hadn't seen the sign? You would have taken it to Coldplay or something? Yeah I know your game!" Sign up to our new free Indy100 weekly newsletter

Celebrity Naked Attraction episode already has interest from famous faces
Naked Attraction’s Anna Richardson has spoken about the possibility of a celebrity version of the show taking place in the future, saying that she’s already had interest from famous faces. Reports were recently denied that the series was coming to an end on Channel 4, and it looks like there could be enough people to make a celeb version viable at some point. Richardson, who has hosted the show since it first aired in 2016, spoke to OK! and revealed that she’s had interest from showbiz pals. “I’ve bumped into a couple of celebs recently who’ve gone ‘I’d do it!’,” Richardson said, saying that Blue singer and Hollyoaks star Duncan James has expressed an interest. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “Duncan James was like ‘I’m up for it!’, and I was like ‘oh my god!’. And the lovely Anna Whitehouse, who does the Dirty Mother Pukka podcast, said to me a couple of weeks ago that she’d do it! “This is starting to look like we’re getting five pods together…I know in the past Scott Mills from Radio 1 said, possibly as a joke, that he would do it.” As well as talking about future plans for the show, Richardson also said that she’d like to take Naked Attraction on tour. “My big dream is to do Naked Attraction live!” she said. “I’d like to do it as a theatre show. I just think there’s a few things that we could do now to move it on and Naked Attraction Mark 2. But we’ll see…..” Of course, Naked Attraction is a unique TV programme that sees contestants baring all in the hopes of being chosen by the person looking for love. It’s seen plenty of memorable moments over the years, and the new most recent 10th series was no different – with one contestant provoking somewhat of a large talking point after being labelled “dangerous”.
