Bologna’s leaning Century Garisenda tower sealed off by police over fears it could collapse
Bologna’s leaning Century Garisenda tower has been sealed off by police, following fears that it could collapse. The 154-foot tower is the counterpart to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and now has a 16-foot barrier erected around it (estimated to cost £3.7 million) to prevent any debris causing damage or injury. It first closed in October after sensors detected it had begun to lean, however, the council are now dubbing the situation ‘critical’. A civil protection plan to preserve buildings nearby is now in place.

Sam Thompson admits fears about ADHD and parenthood on I’m a Celebrity
Sam Thompson admits fears about ADHD and parenthood on I’m a Celebrity
Sam Thompson has candidly opened up to his fellow I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campmates about his ADHD diagnosis and his worries for the future. The Made in Chelsea star has settled into life in camp and won over his fellow contestants and viewers with his positivity and constantly high energy levels – so much so, in fact, that he was voted as the current camp leader. During Thursday (30 November) night’s episode, Sam sat down with Marvin Humes and Josie Gibson at the creek and spoke about being diagnosed with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) last year. Earlier this year, the 31-year-old presented a Channel 4 documentary titled Sam Thompson: Is This ADHD? about his quest for a diagnosis. Marvin mentioned that Sam had alluded to having ADHD a couple of times in the camp, asking him: “How old were you when you were diagnosed with it?” “Last year, mate,” Sam said. “There’s loads of people who are actually of a certain age who get diagnosed way later. When the low bits happen it goes low. But then the highs are really high.” Sam said that his girlfriend, Love Island star and recent Strictly Come Dancing contestant Zara McDermott, was a huge stabilising force in his life. “My girlfriend Zara is so steady and it’s so good for me. When she’s going steady I’m going like that,” he explained, miming a wavy line. “My time-keeping is terrible. I get quite selfish, not just with her, with everyone – my mates or whatever. My listening to Zara… I’m just finding myself staring off at something completely different. You sort of feel like you’re a bit of a k*** sometimes.” “But you would not be Sam without it,” Josie said, with Marvin adding: “I would just always say you’ve got loads of energy. Your energy is crazy bro, and it’s what makes you great.” Sam said that it was “weird no one spotted it beforehand at school”. He continued: “But if you look at all of my report cards, every single one says the same, it says: ‘Likeable enough guy, but lacks focus.’ It’s staring at you in the face. “If I’d known as a kid, not much would have changed, but how you feel about yourself probably changes. I remember crying into my textbook because I couldn’t understand the words going into my head. You want to do good. You don’t want to be mischievous or anything like that.” Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, Sam said: “I’m not ashamed of having ADHD in any way. But I know that I would have felt better about myself at school if I’d been diagnosed with it at a younger age. I really was just like, ‘I just suck at everything.’” Back with Marvin and Josie, Sam said that he hoped to have kids in the future, meaning that “we’ve got to get a handle on it” as “you’ve got to look after a child.” Marvin told Sam he would be “the most incredible dad”, insisting: “Trust me, all my kids care about is giving them attention, being with them in the moment, loving them, cuddling them. They just want to have all of you and to be as fun as possible and feel loved.” He added: “I can’t imagine doing this without you being here and you being as much fun as what we’ve had.” ADHD is a behavioural disorder that can make it difficult for those affected to concentrate. While most cases of the condition are diagnosed between the ages of six and 12 years old, differing symptom levels often mean some adults aren’t diagnosed until later in life. According to charity ADHD Action, approximately 1.5m adults in the UK have the condition, but only 120,000 are formally diagnosed. I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! airs Sunday to Friday at 9pm and Saturday at 9.30pm on ITV. Elon Musk believes OpenAI may have made ‘dangerous’ discovery
Elon Musk has suggested that OpenAI may have discovered “something dangerous,” leading to chaos at the company. He made the comments after the research organisation recently fired and re-hired its CEO, Sam Altman, under mysterious circumstances. Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI, said that he had attempted to find out what happened behind the scenes, but had failed to do so. The billionaire had reached out to numerous people working at the company, including Ilya Sutskever, a chief scientist and board member, who is believed to have led the rebellion against Mr Altman, but had not heard anything. He has previously criticised the company’s shift toward profit-oriented operations and decision to cease open-sourcing its work. I'm a Celebrity viewers fear consequences of Jamie Lynn Spears' departure
Jamie Lynn Spears has left I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! on medical grounds, a show spokesperson said. In a statement from the show it said: “Jamie Lynn Spears has left I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! on medical grounds. She’s been a fantastic campmate who has triumphed at trials and bonded well with her fellow celebrities.” Spears, the sister of pop icon Britney Spears, had struggled since the beginning of the show, emotionally complaining about the lack of food on offer to the stars and also saying that she was missing her children. During Tuesday's episode, she told the Bush Telegraph: "I don’t get it... this is not okay, I wanna go home. I do not want to be here.” The 32-year-old added: " I quit, I don’t wanna do it. I do not wanna be there. I went to tell them [the producers] this is not fair. I quit. I don’t wanna do it, I don’t wanna be here, that’s so unfair that was torture. F*** this.” She becomes the second celebrity to leave the show following food critic Grace Dent who also left earlier this week on medical grounds. YouTuber Nella Rose was also treated by a medic but has since rejoined the camp. Fans of the show are now left fearing the consequences of Spears's departure from the show. This now leaves just 10 contestants left with many thinking that Nigel Farage could win if he manages to stick it out, while the rest of the campmates all drop out for various reasons. One person said: "At this rate the winner will be decided by them being the only one not to leave on medical grounds." Another added: "At this rate Nigel Farage only needs to stay ‘healthy’ in order to win!" A third wrote: "Has Nigel Farage decided the only way he can win is if he bumps off all the other contestants?" A fourth said: "At this rate maybe Nigel Farage will win by default." The remaining contestants are Nigel Farage, Danielle Harold, Fred Sirieix, Josie Gibson, Marvin Humes, Nella Rose, Nick Packard, Sam Thompson and Tony Bellew. Additional reporting by PA.

Nigel Farage and Nella Rose clash over cultural appropriation on I'm A Celeb
Nella Rose and Nigel Farage appeared to butt heads during last night's I'm A Celebrity (28 November), when the YouTuber attempted to school the former UKIP leader on cultural appropriation. The discussion came about after Nella spotted Fred Sirieix' pronunciation of 'water', and Fargae chimed in to say you "can't win" when it comes to what you can and can't say. "You go to a fancy dress party, dressed as something, and now the press will say it’s cultural appropriation", he continued. Nella responded: "Well yeah because you can’t use somebody’s culture as a fancy dress." Sign up to our new free Indy100 weekly newsletter

World’s oldest zoo becomes first to breed protected crocodile species
Schoenbrunn Zoo in Vienna, Austria, has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first to successfully breed protected crocodile tegus. The two offspring, born on 23 November, mark a significant achievement for the world’s oldest zoo and the conservation of the semi-aquatic predatory lizards native to South America. Originally seized in the Netherlands, the parents of the offspring were residing in a Belgian zoo before transferring to Vienna in 2021. Crocodile tegus, targeted by smugglers for their value, are listed in CITES appendix II. Successful breeding provides valuable insights, contributing to their protection outside their natural habitat. David Seaman recalls amusing Paul Gascoigne story as he pays tribute to Terry Venables
David Seaman has paid tribute to Terry Venables, revealing how the former England manager would ask him to “calm down” Paul Gascoigne during Euro 96. “He always had a smile on his face, even when he was angry,” the former goalkeeper said. “I remember during Euro 96, we’d been in the hotel and locked away for quite a long time. “He’d be like, ‘David, can you take Gazza fishing, he’s really winding me up’. His man management was brilliant. So I would take Gazza out fishing and calm him down.”

Irish Parliament protected by ring of steel following rioting in Dublin
Ireland's parliament was surrounded by steel barriers following violence in Dublin this week. A heavy gardai (Irish police) presence has been seen in the capital across the weekend following rioting on Thursday night (23 November). Violence broke out after a knife attack on three children and their care assistant outside a school in the north inner city. Chaotic scenes involving far-right elements saw police cars, buses and trams set alight, and shops looted and damaged. Minister for Justice Helen McEntee said 48 arrests have been made in the city since Thursday and a high-visibility policing plan is in place throughout the weekend.
