Texas bans gender-affirming care for minors after governor signs bill
Texas has become the most populous state to ban gender-affirming care for minors after Gov Greg Abbott signed legislation on Friday. Texas joined at least 18 other states that have enacted similar bans. Every major medical organization, including the American Medical Association, has opposed the bans and supported medical care for youth when administered appropriately. Lawsuits have been filed in several states where bans have been enacted this year. Last year, Mr Abbott became the first governor to order the investigation of families who were receiving care. The investigations were later halted by a Texas judge. The GOP-controlled Legislature sent the bill to Mr Abbott last month. Republicans in the Senate took the final vote over the objections from Democrats, who used parliamentary maneuvers to delay passage but could not derail it entirely. Transgender rights activists have disrupted the Texas House with protests from the chamber gallery, which led to state police forcing demonstrators to move outside the building. Liam Gallagher speaks out after being accused of ‘tormenting’ young Man Utd fan
Liam Gallagher has responded after being accused of “tormenting” a young Manchester United fan during Saturday’s FA Cup Final. Gallagher’s beloved Manchester City beat United 2-1 on the day, and he seemed to be enjoying himself as the BBC cameras focused on his reactions for both City goals. After the second goal was scored, he could be seen interacting with a young fan in a United shirt. Gallagher celebrated the goal and then shook the shoulders of a fan in what seemed like a teasing manner. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Now, the singer has stated that he wasn’t “antagonising” the child as some apparently claimed on social media. Instead, he clarified what most people already thought – that it was all a bit of good natured fun. He wrote on Twitter: "The young lad I was apparently antagonising was my mates kid who I was consoling. "He’s a Utd fan I love and adore him we’re not all c****s CTID LG x." It comes after Liam’s brother Noel revealed what it would take to put things behind him and “consider” getting Oasis back together. Noel and brother Liam went their separate ways in 2009 and haven’t played together since then. However, it now looks like Noel could be more open to the idea than he has been for years. F1 RESULT: Verstappen wins Spanish Grand Prix as Hamilton and Russell have great day for Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes team-mate George Russell will try to recover from a dramatic qualifying session on Saturday as they look to hunt down Max Verstappen in today’s Spanish Grand Prix. Hamilton will start fourth following a bizarre coming together with Russell, who lines up in 12th, at the end of Q2 at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya. Meanwhile, Verstappen took another pole position as he finished four-tenths clear of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, with Lando Norris an impressive third for McLaren. Pierre Gasly claimed fourth for Alpine – but was then given two three-place grid penalties – with home favourite Fernando Alonso setting off from eighth in his Aston Martin. Russell will start one place behind Sergio Perez after the Red Bull driver also failed to make it out of Q2. Perez is Verstappen’s closest challenger in the championship but a week on from his horror show in Monaco where he finished 16th and two laps down, he qualified only 11th here. Continuing the shock results from qualifying, Charles Leclerc, who started this race from pole position last year, will line last but one on the grid as Ferrari’s woes show no sign of letting up.
