Daniel Radcliffe's stunt double paralysed for life following Harry Potter scene
Daniel Radcliffe's stunt double paralysed for life following Harry Potter scene
Daniel Radcliffe is producing a documentary about his Harry Potter stunt double who was left paralysed from a scene gone wrong. David Holmes was left with a broken neck while filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010). He was said to be rehearsing a flying scene at Warner Bros Studios, Leavesden, in 2009, when he was jerked backwards "at speed" during a scene that mimicked an explosion. Holmes launched into the wall during the freak accident and was immediately rushed to Watford General Hospital before being transferred to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore where he stayed for a further six months. Doctors informed him that he was paralysed from the chest down, with limited movement in his hands and arms. Speaking about the horrific incident, Holmes previously told the Mirror: "I hit the wall and then landed on the crash mat underneath. My stunt coordinator grabbed my hand and said, ‘Squeeze my fingers’. I could move my arm to grab his hand but I couldn’t squeeze his fingers. "I looked into his eyes and that’s when I realised what happened was major. I remember slipping in and out of consciousness because of the pain levels. I’d broken a bone before, so recognising that weird feeling across my whole body from my fingertips right down to my toes, I knew I had really done some damage." A synopsis for the upcoming documentary reads: "Over the next 10 years, the two form an inextricable bond, but on the penultimate film a tragic accident on set leaves David paralysed with a debilitating spinal injury, turning his world upside down." Holmes later took to Instagram on 24 October with an announcement for the show. "Being a stuntman was my calling in life, and doubling Harry was the best job in the world. In January 2009, I had a stunt rehearsal accident that changed my life forever," he wrote. "This film tells the story of not just my achievements in front of camera, but also the challenges I face every day, and my overall attitude to life after suffering a broken neck." Director of controversial Jennifer Lawrence Netflix movie responds to criticism
Director of controversial Jennifer Lawrence Netflix movie responds to criticism
The director of the controversial Jennifer Lawrence comedy No Hard Feelings has addressed the criticism aimed at the film, and given a pretty clear response. Gene Stupnitsky has spoken about the age gap between the two main characters, which has attracted some backlash on social media. The sex comedy movie was released earlier this year and has now found a new audience after landing on Netflix. The film focuses on Lawrence's character Maddie who discovers a lucrative job for the summer; dating an introverted 19-year-old, Percy – played by Andrew Barth Feldman, before he goes to college. Social media users have criticised the age gap between the characters – but Stupnitsky shut down the backlash in a series of interviews. The filmmaker spoke about another of Lawrence’s movies, Silver Linings Playbook, which features a similar age gap between the characters played by Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. Speaking at the film premiere in New York, Stupnitsky said: “It goes the other way too. We took great pains to be careful about the ick factor because it could go that way... We took a humanist approach and I think that's all you can ask for." Feldman also spoke during an interview with Vanity Fair, saying: "Because what is a comedy if it’s not at least a little controversial?" He added: "But Percy is an adult. I am an adult, and this is a cringe comedy. It should make you uncomfortable. I’m disinterested in a movie, and specifically a comedy, about people who are perfect and make the right decisions all the time.” He went on to say: "[We were so thoughtful about it throughout. Constantly, every day talking about what it meant and how it would manifest in a truthful way. "And I think people are going to be surprised with not just how funny it turns out to be, and how uncomfortable it maybe makes them, but also how beautiful this relationship is and how heartfelt it is." It comes after Lawrence has left viewers of her new film No Hard Feelings stunned by a fight scene on a beach in the new film where the Oscar-winning Hollywood A-lister is completely naked. Jennifer Lawrence fans stunned by nude wrestling scene in new movie on Netflix
Jennifer Lawrence has left viewers of her new film No Hard Feelings stunned by a fight scene on a beach where the Oscar-winning Hollywood A-lister is completely naked. The sex comedy movie was released earlier this year and was met with mixed reviews but is available for everyone to make their own decision having recently been added to Netflix. The story focuses on Lawrence's character Maddie who discovers a lucrative job for the summer; dating an introverted 19-year-old, Percy, before he heads off to college. While the film didn't thrill critics it does hold an 87 per cent audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is now continuing to entertain people now. One particularly eye-opening scene has been catching viewers' attention for obvious reasons. The scene sees Lawrence and her co-star Andrew Barth Feldman go skinny-dipping on a beach. However, while the two are in the water a group of drunken teenagers attempt to steal their clothes which they have left on the sand. A naked Lawrence then exits the water and proceeds to fight the teenagers, even hitting one with a suplex. The scene is obviously played for shock value and it appears that it has achieved its goal. One viewer wrote: "MF did a whole Brock Lesnar German Suplex with her whole vagina out. Greatest fight scene in the history of fight scenes." Another said: "I 100% didn’t expect to see a naked Jennifer Lawrence suplex a delinquent like she was f**king Donnie Yen in this movie." A third wrote: "Never thought I ever wanted to see a naked Jennifer Lawrence do a perfect suplex on an asshole dude who was stealing her clothes but hey, that's why cinema is back" Speaking to Variety, Lawrence said that she had no hesitation about the scene despite some trepidation by her team. She said: "Everyone in my life and my team is doing the right thing and going, ‘Are you sure? Are you sure? Are you sure? I didn’t even have a second thought. It was hilarious to me.” No Hard Feelings will be available on Digital on August 15th.
