Gustaf Lagerbielke could be in line for a swift Celtic debut after Stephen Welsh suffered a knock hours after his new four-year contract was announced. The Swedish central defender signed on Wednesday and could face Kilmarnock in the Viaplay Cup on Sunday after Cameron Carter-Vickers was ruled out with a hamstring issue. Midfielder Reo Hatate will also be missing in Ayrshire after picking up a calf problem. Welsh made his first appearance in 10 months when he replaced Carter-Vickers at Pittodrie but his chances of getting an extended run have been placed in doubt. “He picked up a little bit of a knock today which is a shame for him considering he has just signed his deal,” boss Brendan Rodgers said. “But I am really pleased for him. He is a guy that loves Celtic, loves playing here. He has been a great player within the squad over the last number of years. Maybe not played as much as he would have liked but his heart is very much here and I am delighted for him that he has committed to signing.” Rodgers did not know how bad the knock was and did not give many details on Carter-Vickers and Hatate other than ruling them out of Sunday’s game. Celtic host St Johnstone in their next league match before travelling to Ibrox on September 3. Rodgers said: “We just have to assess them and see how they are over the coming weeks.” Lagerbielke played his final game for Elfsborg last Sunday, leaving them in pole position in the Swedish top flight after 19 matches after Celtic targeted him as a replacement for another Swede, Carl Starfelt. “He has been playing so fitness-wise he is fine,” said Rodgers, who declined to comment on reports linking Celtic with moves for Wolves winger Daniel Podence and Newcastle’s Ryan Fraser. “He is a highly-rated young player and I am looking forward to seeing him play. “The club have a great pipeline of players in place. There is always a plan if someone is to move on so he is one who has been looked at for a long time.” Speaking before his injury, Welsh declared he was looking to “kick on” under Rodgers. The 23-year-old’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of this season and it looked like his time with his boyhood club might be nearing an end when he struggled for game time under previous boss Ange Postecoglou. The Celtic academy graduate has been linked with moves away from Parkhead in recent transfer windows but Rodgers spoke highly of him after Sunday’s 3-1 win at Pittodrie. “Signing a new contract for the club that I’ve been brought up on and have supported my whole life was, for me, an easy decision,” Welsh told Celtic TV. “It’s time for me to kick on now and hopefully I can have a few good seasons. I want to keep improving and continue to play as many games as I can, especially with the manager in now. He’s been massive for me since he’s come in. “He’s one of the main reasons that I want to be at the club and I’m just looking forward to starting the season properly and going for it.” Welsh has made 53 appearances for Celtic since his debut in February 2020 and will compete for a centre-back berth with recent signing Maik Nawrocki as well as Carter-Vickers and Lagerbielke. “At a club of this stature, competition for places is going to be everywhere, all over the pitch,” he said. “So for me it’s natural to keep working hard, keep improving and show that the manager can trust me to go in and play. “Thankfully he’s done that so far and now we’ll look ahead to the season and hopefully more opportunities to come. Mixed martial artist Dillon Danis is set to take on YouTuber Logan Paul in a boxing match in Manchester in October – on the same card as KSI vs Tommy Fury – and the Twitter spats are underway, to the extent Danis has claimed Paul and his fiancée Nina Agdal have had arguments over the MMA fighter’s recent tweets. In the build-up to Tuesday’s press conference and the bout later this year, Dannis has taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share images of Agdal – a Danish model – nude, and with other men. Insisting “everything’s public”, Danis alleged Paul reported his opponent for “targeted harassment” over the images and that boxing promoter Misfits is “censoring” him after he “went too far” with the social media posts. Over several tweets, Danis wrote: “One rule of mine: if you give it out, you’ve got to be able to take it. I embrace everyone’s comments, good or bad, unlike Logan who turns off his comments, revealing his insecurities.” “I never thought someone who filmed a dead person for a video would have limits.” “Come on, Logan. You really don’t have the guts to respond? This is getting dull. Show some spirit and fight back, kid!” Paul proposed to Agdal last month, and Danis has now shared a fake image suggesting there’s betting odds on the wedding being called off following his antics. The YouTuber is yet to respond to his rival’s teasing, instead limiting replies to his posts on X to those he’s either following or mentioned. And Danis’s regular posts of Agal kissing other men has divided the internet: Despite the online controversy over his actions, Danis appeared on the Full Send podcast and denied going too far with the posts. “Everything’s public. It’s not like I’m getting her ex-boyfriends sending me pictures of her in bed – that would be pretty f***ed up, I would imagine, right? “[It’s] public s*** that she can’t handle, that she used in her past, that’s not my problem,” he said. The fighter also claimed he’s “in [Paul’s] head” in the run-up to their fight, adding: “I can’t say too much but he’s really thinking about pulling out [of] the fight because of how personal it’s getting. “There’s definitely trouble in paradise.” He even said his rival “can’t even train right now” because of the Twitter teasing which is “driving him insane”. While there’s been no comment from Paul about whether he intends to pull out of the fight, it would make a change from Danis’s planned fight against KSI, which was cancelled earlier this year with the rapper’s manager claiming Danis was “underprepared” and “has no coach”. And Danis isn’t the only person fighting on 14 October who’s attracted criticism online, as KSI has been called out for a “disgusting” and “ableist” post on X taking aim at Fury. Influencer Caleb Coffee has been hospitalised after falling off a cliff during a hike in Hawaii, according to a GoFundMe page created by his sister. On Thursday 17 August, Coffee’s sister Peyton created the page, where she revealed that her brother is in the intensive care unit with a spinal fracture and broken femur, elbow and wrist. His sister also states that they don’t know the “extent” of his injuries yet, but that they also include “multiple gouges and burns throughout his entire body” According to the GoFundMe, Coffee was hiking with three friends when he “slipped and fell off a 60-80ft cliff onto lava rock”. He was reportedly airlifted to a nearby hospital, with Peyton telling fans that her brother “hasn’t been able to hold down food”. “The medics have informed us more injuries will most likely pop up over the next few weeks…” she added. As of Friday, the GoFundMe has raised $16,000 of its $100,000 goal. Coffee, who has more than 11 million followers on TikTok, updated his followers with a video posted to the platform on Thursday, where he wrote that it’s a “miracle” he’s alive. “Hey everybody, I just want to give a massive thank you to anyone that’s trying to help me or support me right now and I wanted to let you guys know a little update I just found out, that my neck and spine is not broken.
