Woman praised for biting reply to date after he asked her to split the bill – by text
Woman praised for biting reply to date after he asked her to split the bill – by text
The question of who should pick up the tab at the end of a date has divided people since time immemorial (or, at least since women were actually allowed to earn money). Most agree that splitting or paying for one’s own share is the fairest course of action, however, others romanticise the more archaic idea of the man covering the lot. But, regardless of your view, once the bill is settled, most of us just move on. Yet, this wasn’t the case for one would-be Cassanova who paid for dinner with a woman, then swiftly tried to backtrack on his own generosity. The man, named only as Jason, texted his date the morning after their meal and asked her to reimburse him. According to a screenshot of their message exchange, shared to Reddit, Jason wrote: “Good morning. I had a great time last night! After thinking it over... I think I will take you up on splitting the dinner. "I'm going to the game today and didn't realise I spent so much last night lol. Can you Venmo me $50?" The unnamed woman explained in a caption to the grab that she had offered to “pay for herself on the date”, which would have amounted to $25 (around £20). However, she added: “He drank so much the tab was over 100 bucks (around £82).” Happily, she stuck to her guns and refused to submit to his shameless request. "Good morning,” she replied. “That offer expired after we left the restaurant. “Have fun at the game." Her post racked up more than 75,600 upvotes and 2,900 comments in one day of it being shared to the ‘mildlyinfuriating’ subreddit. “People that want to split the bill when they got multiple appetizers, a fancy alcoholic drink and a steak when I got chicken tenders are on some wild s**t,” one fellow Redditor wrote. “I imagine he didn’t want to take her up on the offer at the restaurant because it would hurt his fragile ego. It would make him look bad. So he decided to ask for money when no one was around… disgusting,” said another. “You’ve heard of girl math, you’ve heard of guy math, you’ve even heard of dog math but let us now present… jason math!” joked a third. “Honestly the balls to change up the ratio after its been paid at all, let alone the next day,” fumed a fourth. In an update shared a few hours later, the woman said she’d received a text from a “random number” after blocking Jason. It read: “Aye take that s**t off reddit.” After asking who the mystery messenger was, he replied: “B***h you know who this is!” She then wrote back: “I'm not taking it down. Do better next time and you wouldn’t (sic) get called out for your trash behavior. “Don’t text me again.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Elon Musk slammed by Israel for offering to send Starlink to Gaza
Elon Musk slammed by Israel for offering to send Starlink to Gaza
Elon Musk has been slammed by the Israeli government after offering to send SpaceX’s Starlink to Gaza. The tech mogul said over the weekend that he would send Starlink to “internationally recognised aid organizations” in Gaza after a telephone and internet blackout in the city. He added that it was not clear who has authority for ground links in Gaza, but “no terminal has requested a connection in that area”. Responding to Musk’s post on X, Israel’s communication minister Shlomo Karhi hit out at the tech mogul, claiming that Hamas militants would use Stralink technology for “terrorist activities” and vowing that Israel will fight the move. “Israel will use all means at its disposal to fight this,” Mr Karhi wrote. “HAMAS will use it for terrorist activities. Perhaps Musk would be willing to condition it with the release of our abducted babies, sons, daughters, elderly people. All of them! By then, my office will cut any ties with starlink.” Mr Musk has insisted that SpaceX will take “extraordinary measures” to ensure the technology is only used for humanitarian reasons. It is unclear what those measures are. “Moreover, we will do a security check with both the US and Israeli governments before turning on even a single terminal,” he added on X. It comes after telecommunications were cut in Gaza over the weekend, leaving millions of residents without power or means of contact as Israel widened its air and ground assault. International humanitarian organisations said the blackout, which began late on Friday, was worsening an already desperate situation by impeding life-saving operations and preventing contact with their staff on the ground. Following the blackout, Palestinians appealed to Mr Musk to send Starlink satellites to Gaza. “Gaza is under bombardment, the internet and telecommunications have been cut off. They need Starlink immediately,” Anastasia Maria Loupis, a doctor, wrote on X. It comes after Mr Musk was widely praised for providing Ukraine with Starlink following Russia’s February 2022 invasion. Starlink satellites were reported to have been critical to maintaining internet connectivity in some areas despite attempted Russian jamming. But since then, Mr Musk has come under scrutiny after declining to extend coverage over Russian-occupied Crimea, refusing to allow his satellites to be used for Ukrainian attacks on Russian forces there. Mr Musk allegedly feared doing so would trigger a nuclear response from Moscow. Since Hamas launched an attack on Israel on 7 October in which 1,400 people died, Israel has launched retaliatory airstrikes on Gaza, leading to the deaths of more than 8,000 Palestinians. Luis Rubiales banned from football for three years after World Cup final kiss
Luis Rubiales banned from football for three years after World Cup final kiss
Luis Rubiales has been banned from all football-related activities for three years after kissing player Jenni Hermoso on the lips in the aftermath of Spain’s Women’s World Cup final victory, Fifa has announced. The former president of the Spanish FA, who was forced to resign from his post in disgrace after Hermoso said the kiss was not consensual, was ruled to have breached Fifa’s disciplinary code under the section of “offensive behaviour”. Rubiales was suspended for 90 days by football’s governing body in the wake of Spain’s 1-0 victory over England, which was marred by the former president’s behaviour during the trophy presentation. Fifa has since been investigating the events that followed the Sydney final on 20 August. Rubiales also grabbed his crotch in celebration while standing alongside Spain’s Queen Letizia and 16-year-old Princess Infanta Sofia in the VIP box and initially refused to step down or apologise for his actions, insisting that his kiss with Hermoso was “mutual”. In Fifa’s statement announcing the ban, football’s governing body said Rubiales had been notified of its decision and would have 10 days to request an appeal. Under the ban, Rubiales will not be allowed to take part in any football-related activity at national or international level until 2026. Rubiales, 46, is also facing a criminal investigation in Spain into his conduct and a Madrid judge issued a restraining order to keep him away from Hermoso, who is Spain’s all-time leading goalscorer. A former player who rose to the head of Spanish’s football federation, Rubiales had initially played down the significance of the unsolicited kiss and called his critics “idiots” in the aftermath of the World Cup final. Rubiales eventually announced his resignation as president of the Spanish FA during an interview with Piers Morgan but has still not apologised for the incident.
