Arnold Schwarzenegger has said that he believes The Terminator had a role in AI development. Speaking in Los Angeles at ‘An Evening with Arnold Schwarzenegger’, the 75-year-old discussed the state of AI in 2023. Schwarzenegger said “today, everyone is frightened of it, of where this is gonna go.” He then goes on to say, “and in this movie, in ‘Terminator,’ we talk about the machines becoming self-aware and they take over.” Because of this he took a moment to commend the “brilliance” of James Cameron, the writer and director of the 1984 movie, because at that time they had only “scratched the surface of AI.” And it seems that the former governor of California attributes this development to The Terminator and James Cameron saying: “Now over the course of decades, it has become a reality. So it’s not any more fantasy or kind of futuristic. It is here today. And so this is the extraordinary writing of James Cameron.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “I wish I could take credit for this movie,” Schwarzenegger added, continuing to praise Cameron, “he’s just such an extraordinary writer and he’s such an unbelievable director.” “I can only take credit of the character that i played and the way I played it,” he added. “But I mean, he has created this character.” Back in May a Twitter user at the Dell Tech World conference shared that Cameron had begun writing a new Terminator movie but “wants to see how #AI shakes out before he goes any further.” At the Los Angeles event, Schwarzenegger said that whilst The Terminator franchise will continue, it will do so without him. “The franchise is not done. I’m done. I got the message loud and clear that the world wants to move on with a different theme when it comes to The Terminator.” He added that he looks at the franchise “very fondly,” attributing it to much of his success. The Swiftie named Amina shared her frustration with Swift at the ticket information not being updated in Australia. Frontier Touring was providing updates on ticket availability for The Era Tour, but Amina wrote to Swift saying that updates were not being added to the official website. "Hey Taylor, Australia tickets are on sale at the moment," Amina wrote. "And I don't know if you're aware but there has been promotions on Twitter getting a message out to let people know there is actually limited spaces available in Sydney and only tickets available on the Sunday night." IQ tests offer a formula that allows you to compare yourself to other people and see how average (or above average) your intelligence is. The Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT) is dubbed the world’s shortest IQ test because it consists of just three questions. It assesses your ability to identify that a simple problem can actually be harder than it first appears. The quicker you do this, the more intelligent you appear to be. Here are the three questions: 1. A bat and a ball cost £1.10 in total. The bat costs £1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost? 2. If it takes five machines five minutes to make five widgets, how long would it take 100 machines to make 100 widgets? 3. In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. Every day, the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half of the lake? The ball would actually cost 5 pence or 0.05 pounds If the ball costs X, and the bat costs £1 more, then it will be: X+£1 Therefore Bat+ball=X + (X+1) =1.1 Thus 2X+1=1.1, and 2X=0.1 X= 0.05 2. In a survey of almost 3,500 people, 33 per cent got all three wrong, and 83 per cent missed at least one. While this IQ test has its shortcomings – its brevity, and lack of variation in verbal and non-verbal reasoning - only 48 per cent of MIT students sampled were able to answer all three correctly.
