Australian Taylor Swift fans tell Americans to 'stay in your own country'
Tickets have gone on sale for Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour in Australia, and such is the demand Aussies have warned American fans "stay in your own country." The pop star is set to play five dates Down Under - two nights at Melbourne Cricket Ground on February 16 and 17 and then three nights at Sydney’s Accor Stadium from February 23, 24, and 25. After an American Express presale took place earlier this week, and with presale tickets and VIP packages on sale for fans who registered with Frontier Touring today (Sydney at 10 am and Melbourne at 2 pm), Aussie Swifties have expressed their nerves about getting their hands on tickets. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Given the limited number of tickets available, some fans have posted warnings online to American fans who perhaps were thinking about buying tickets and flying over to see the concert. Despite the 50 US tour dates, 14 million Americans attempted to buy pre-sale tickets – with only 1.5 million available on sale, leaving many disappointed American Swifties. Many have argued that Americans shouldn't buy tickets to other countries as they have already had a 50-date tour, and that demand is high enough in Australia because there are only five dates - without the addition of fans coming from another country. "I want to see no trace about people being rude to you because you've been warned," one Australian Swiftie said on TikTok. "Americans stay home." @snarkywench A heads up on flying to Australia for #taylorswift if you’re American. Another fan also echoed similar sentiments, noting how the ticket sale is going to be "pandemonium." "If you're American, stay in your own country. I don't even understand how you should be allowed to buy tickets here," she said. "You had 50 shows, Australia has five - that doesn't even just cover Australia that covers New Zealand - in two states, that's it." “There are not even going to be enough tickets to go around for the diehard Swifties, and you want to come here? We’re really chill until you p*** us off. Don’t get on a plane, we’ll meet you at the gate. You’re not ready for that, trust me.” She also asked Aussie Swifties to "please don't be greedy," and to not invite someone along who isn't a die-hard fan of the Anti-Hero singer. Someone else wrote on TikTok: "If I don't get Eras Tour tickets because some Americans decided to come to Australia's five shows over their 50+ shows there will be war." @samixwilliams preparing to fight for my life #taylorswift #erastour #erastouraustralia Many in the comments agreed and believe there should be some kind of restriction that prevents fans from other countries from buying tickets. One person said: "It should be only listed for Aus. Like have restrictions for the country, considering they’ve had so many concerts 😅 just so us Aussies have a chance." "If their postcode isn’t Australian or NZ, ban them from buying tickets," another fan agreed. Though others argued back in the comments section that people should be able to do what they want, which includes travelling to see Swift in concert abroad. One person said: "The USA has 12x Australia’s population but does not have 12x the amount of shows, it is fair." "I’m gonna be honest it’s way cheaper for US people to go to the Europe shows not Australia so I think you’re ok," another person wrote. Someone else added: "Say it with me…. people can do whatever they want." Swift's The Eras Tour marks her first tour in five years, the last time being back in 2018 for her Reputation album tour. Meanwhile, the general sale for Australian Eras Tour tickets will take place on June 30. Have your say in our news democracy. Elon Musk trainer claims that billionaire said Zuckerberg fight is 'likely' to happen
The fight between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg is “likely” to happen, according to Musk’s training partner. The billionaires are said to be facing off in a cage fight in the coming months, after the Twitter CEO said that he was “up for a cage match” after rumours emerged that the Meta boss was working on a Twitter rival. Podcast host Lex Fridman, who trains in Brazilian jiu jitsu and holds a first-degree black belt, posted an update after spending a session with Musk. He posted two images of the pair working together, writing: “I did an impromptu training session with @elonmusk for a few hours yesterday. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “I'm extremely impressed with his strength, power, and skill, on the feet and on the ground. It was epic. It's really inspiring to see Elon and Mark doing martial arts, but I think the world is served far better if they train martial arts but not fight in the cage.” He added: “That said, as Elon says, the most entertaining outcome is the most likely... I'm there for them, no matter what.” “That was fun!” Musk wrote back. We recently looked at the two fighters’ chances and predicted a comfortable win for the Meta CEO. MMA fighter Khai "The Shadow" Wu has been training with Zuckerberg since last year, and speaking to Forbes about the potential bout, he emphasised how dedicated the Meta CEO is to martial arts. "I just go and train. I can only speak on how hard he works." He added: “He works really hard. He's a really nice guy, to be honest with you. I'm not sure how the fight will play out, so I don't want to speculate, but I'm like you, I'm like 'how crazy is this?'" Wu went on to say Zuckerberg "shows up, trains hard, puts in the effort” and also described him as a "student of the game". Meanwhile, UFC boss Dana White previously appeared on TMZ Live and explained that he’d spoken to both Musk and Zuckerberg and they were "absolutely dead serious" about the cage fight. "There's no limit on what this thing can make," said White. "Both guys are absolutely dead serious about this." Have your say in our news democracy. Mark Zuckerberg denies he contacted UFC legend about a date for Elon Musk fight
Mark Zuckerberg has denied that he contacted UFC legend Chael Sonnen to confirm he wanted to fight Elon Musk at UFC 300. The former fighter claimed that he wanted to make the touted bout a part of the event, which is expected to take place in the next year. However, Zuckerberg has reportedly denied he ever spoke to Sonnen. Speaking on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Sonnen said he’d just got off the phone with the Meta CEO, adding: “Zuckerberg has told me that he has agreed to fight Elon Musk at UFC 300. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “It was a very big deal. He kept bringing up the dates, because, ‘Elon could never say he has something to do. He could never say that he was busy.'” Since then, a spokesperson for Zuckerberg has denied that this exchange happened, according to TMZ. They did not, however, deny that the fight could potentially take place at UFC 300. “I have confirmed with Mark that he did not call Chael Sonnen,” the spokesperson reportedly said. UFC 300 is rumoured to be taking place in April or May next year. The billionaires have verbally agreed to a fight after Musk said that he was “up for a cage match” after rumours emerged that the Meta boss was working on a Twitter rival. Zuckerberg responded with a screenshot of Musk’s tweet with the caption “send me location”. Cardi B warns Offset after he accuses her of cheating on him
Cardi B has issued a warning to her husband Offset after he claimed she cheated on him in a now-deleted Instagram story. Rappers Cardi B and Offset have been married since 2017 and have two children together, but it seems all is not well in their union. The revelation came on Monday 26 June, when Offset posted a shocking claim on his Instagram story, writing: “My wife f**ked a N**** on me gang yall n****s know how I come.” Later that day, Cardi B also took to social media, singing in a Twitter Space conversation the verse of the Keyshia Cole song “I Should Have Cheated”. She sang: “First of all, let me say, you can't accuse me of all the things you know that you are guilty of. Sing it with me, y'all! And I see that it is easy for you to blame everything on me. Yes, honey!” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Cardi B went on, telling fans, “Listen, don’t pay attention to that country man,” adding, “That motherf**ker spiraling and thinking s**t.” She continued, arguing that if she really had cheated on him, the rumours would have already gotten out. Lily Alllen steps-in to help anyone struggling with a post-Glastonbury comedown
More than 200,000 people went to Glastonbury this year, and a significant amount of them will be suffering crushing comedowns this week (from all that alcohol they’ve been drinking, obviously). But they need not worry, because Lily Allen has given her qualified medical opinion on the matter – and it’s pretty good advice. The 'Smile' and 'LDN' singer tweeted on 26 June: “Thoughts are with those starting their post Glastonbury comedowns today, YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS." Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “It will take somewhere between a week and month depending on your age and what exactly you may have consumed, but you will get through this.” She added in another post: “Start with a good fry up, some electrolytes, berocca, plenty of water and stay away from anything like Grey's Anatomy or The Notebook.” Twitter users were quick to thank the singer. One user said: “Thank you Lily, you got me and @MarisaMuramatsu through the early hours journey home.” Another added: “I’m still recovering from 1987 tbh.” And one other said: “Needed to see this. This car journey home, emotions are all over the gaff!” This year’s Glastonbury, which finished yesterday, saw headliners Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses and Sir Elton John play to vast crowds. While Allen was not on the lineup, her 2022 rendition of her hit 'F*** You' will still be fresh in the minds of fans, when she joined pop star Olivia Rodrigo on stage for a surprise appearance. Meanwhile, her 2009 song, 'Everyone’s At It', took a pop at people in the media and politics who are hypocritical about alcohol and drug use in wider society. The chorus goes: “Why can't we all, all just be honest / Admit to ourselves that everyone's on it / From grown politicians to young adolescents”. Have your say in our news democracy. Mark Zuckerberg trainer warns Elon Musk that fight 'could go badly' for him
We recently looked ahead to the fight being touted between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk and predicted a comfortable win for the Meta CEO – and it turns out Musk thinks that could very well be the case. The billionaires have verbally agreed to a fight after Musk said that he was “up for a cage match” after rumours emerged that the Meta boss was working on a Twitter rival. Zuckerberg responded with a screenshot of Musk’s tweet with the caption “send me location”, and his trainer has now spoken about his chances. Wu went on to say Zuckerberg "shows up, trains hard, puts in the effort” and also described him as a "student of the game". As Insider reports, Musk spoke to Bloomberg reporter Ashley Vance on a Twitter Space session, and admitted: “Well I haven’t started training yet. If it does happen I will train.” Vance said that the fight “could go badly” as Zuckerberg “takes this stuff pretty seriously”. Taylor Swift turned down Meghan Markle's 'handwritten' invite to her podcast
Singer Taylor Swift turned down Meghan Markle’s personal request to appear as a guest on her now-cancelled podcast Archetypes. When they stepped down as working members of the royal family in January 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle soon found other roles that kept them busy. Through their podcast production company, Archewell Audio, they brokered a deal with Spotify, through which Markle launched her own podcast series, Archetypes. The first episode was released in August 2023, but the podcast series was axed after just one season, despite high-profile guest stars such as tennis legend Serena Williams and pop icon Mariah Carey. But, even with her vast connections, Markle was unable to secure Taylor Swift who declined her invitation to appear on the podcast after she had sent her a hand-written letter. According to the Wall Street Journal, singer Swift turned Markle’s personal request down to appear on Archetypes via a representative, for unknown reasons. In the podcast series, Markled discussed the history of negative stereotypes used to label women with her celebrity guests. It won the top podcast award at the People’s Choice Awards, but despite this, it was cancelled by Spotify in June after airing 12 episodes. The cancellation comes as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly struggled to come good on the $20 million Spotify deal, leading to its collapse. Bill Simmons, Spotify’s head of podcast innovation and monetisation, called the pair "f**king grifters”. Have your say in our news democracy. Brandon Flowers' Glastonbury outfit compared to Alan Partridge
Brandon Flowers sported a drastically different look to what fans were used to as he took to the stage with Sir Elton John for the final night of Glastonbury festival on Sunday. The Killers frontman, 42, wore a bright red suit and a blue shirt, while fans pointed out that he also sported a glowing tan, neatly styled hair and gleaming white teeth, in a look which has been compared to Alan Partridge. He joined Sir Elton to perform his 1971 hit 'Tiny Dancer' during the pop legend’s final UK show of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Journalist Nooruddean Choudry tweeted: “Did Brandon Flowers stick his head in a beehive?” Another person said: “Enjoying Brandon Flowers with Elton John,” with a picture of Alan Partridge in a similar outfit. One commenter added that Flowers looked like “an android televangelist”. The performance saw Sir Elton perform some of his biggest hits, including 'Rocket Man', 'Tiny Dancer' and 'Crocodile Rock'. He thanked his fans for “52 years of amazing love and loyalty”. He told the crowd: “I want to thank you for all dressing up in your costumes and your glasses and your outfits ... it makes me feel so happy. Thank you for your love. And I want to thank you, also, for 52 years of amazing love and loyalty that you've shown me.” Despite some people commenting on Flowers’ appearance in his guest role, others were quick to defend him. Some posted videos of The Killers’ memorable performance of their hit 'Mr Brightside' when they headlined Glastonbury in 2019. Others shared a screenshot of a message, apparently from another social media website, which said: “God forbid he takes good care of his skin, god forbid he has white teeth, god forbid he likes his hair to look a certain way”. Another person posted a picture of the two embracing at the end of the performance, saying: “I’m not crying, you are.” Have your say in our news democracy. Elvis Presley killed himself over guilt at having so many 'young lovers', stepbrother claims
Elvis Presley's stepbrother believes the singer died by suicide over the guilt of having many young lovers. In a new documentary called Elvis’ Women on Prime, David Stanley alleged that Elvis "premeditated taking the medications that killed him," and he "just couldn't go on." Stanley, who was a part of the star's entourage throughout the seventies, was at Graceland on the day of Elvis' death in August 1977. He died from a heart attack due to a drug overdose. The 85-year-old claimed it was down to "love, hurt, pain, exposure — he just couldn’t take it any more" after believing it was down to his fears of reported relationships with young girls that could have been exposed in a book. "His taste for young girls, aged 15 or 16, made me sick," his stepbrother said in the series, adding that it was a "miracle" he wasn't "busted". "He got away with things most people didn’t because of his money, fortune, fame and power, charisma and magnetism. Elvis could talk the socks off you," he continued. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The series includes interviews with women who claimed to be involved with Elvis at a young age, one of which being Jackie Rowland, who went to see Elvis in concert at the age of 13. She said her mother realised she had a crush on the star and made a pact that if she lost weight, she would be taken to the concert. "I went on the Elvis Love Diet and lost 80lb in a year," she said, which prompted her mother to write to Elvis to explain the effect he had on her. The star allegedly invited them to meet him with his own parents, Gladys and Vernon Presley. Elvis allegedly started nibbling her ear and licking her neck. She claimed: "I told him to stop,’ and he said: ‘Oh Mrs Rowland, what is the matter with your daughter? She is not normal.'" Indy100 reached out to Elvis' estate for comment. Lance Armstrong spoke out about trans athletes – and everyone had the same response
Lance Armstrong has been accused of staggering hypocrisy after wading into a public debate about transgender representation in sport. The disgraced former cyclist, who was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles in 2012 after being found guilty of multiple doping offences, boasted on Twitter that he was “uniquely placed” to speak about divisive subjects. Announcing the launch of a special series of his podcast ‘The Forward’, he tweeted: “Of all the controversial and polarizing subjects out there today, I'm not sure there are any as heated as the topic of Trans athletes in sport. “Is there not a world in which one can be supportive of the transgender community and curious about the fairness of Trans athletes in sport yet not be labelled a transphobe or a bigot as we ask questions? Do we yet know the answers? And do we even want to know the answers? “I do. Hence these conversations… a special series of The Forward, beginning Monday, where I dive into this issue with an open mind in an attempt learn as much as possible from all sides of the debate.” He ended his thread: “I hope that for those who have been reluctant to have this conversation, this somehow feels safe. Be fearless.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter His announcement has not gone down well with fellow social media users, countless of whom have picked up on his eyebrow-raising choice of wording. Here’s what they had to say about his so-called curiosity about the “fairness” of trans sportspeople’s inclusion in competitive events: The furore comes just weeks after World Athletics (WA) announced a banon transgender athletes who have been through male puberty from female category events, following similar codes to those of rugby and swimming. At the end of March, the organisation’s president, Lord Sebastian Coe, said that the decision was driven by the need to “protect the female category”. “We cannot in all consciousness leave our transgender regulations as they were,” he said. Elsewhere, Alun Williams, Professor of Sport and Exercise Genomics at Manchester Metropolitan University, agreed that athletics’ previous approach of allowing transgender women to compete in female events with reduced levels of testosterone did not equate to fairness. He told the PA news agency: “There are key biological differences that appear predominantly during male puberty due to elevated testosterone while growth is still going on. “Those differences seem to persist whatever happens for the rest of someone’s life, including if they then lower testosterone down to what is the typical female range. “The biological effects that are related to sport – like an increase in skeleton size, having larger muscles that are stronger, increase in the size of organs like the heart that help in all sorts of activity – those persist. “On that basis, the choice for the authorities like World Athletics is to make a decision – do they prioritise fairness or do they prioritise inclusion, but there’s no evidence at the moment that those two can be met at the same time.” However, critics of a blanket ban argue that not enough research has been done to draw such a conclusion. Liz Ward, director of programmes at Stonewall, which campaigns for LGBTQ+ rights and equality, said: “It is so disappointing to see World Athletics announce a unilateral ban on trans women in track and field events. “Their own statement recognises that there are no trans women competing at an international level and that they have no specific evidence to justify the ban. “It is vital that decisions about trans participation are based on robust evidence, specific to the sport played and the athletes competing at that level of the sport. “We stand with trans people who now have the door closed on their chance to compete in athletic sports at an international level.” Have your say in our news democracy.
