Harry Kane builds new family home near Chelsea training ground
Harry Kane has built a new family home in Surrey, only 15 miles from the training ground of Chelsea, where Kane’s former manager Mauricio Pochettino has just taken charge. The Tottenham and England captain is considering his future with only one year left on his Spurs contract and concrete interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. Chelsea are not thought to be currently interested in signing the striker, who is valued at around £100m, but their position could change should he become out of contract and available to sign for free. Kane currently lives with his wife Kate and their three children in Hampstead, North London, but appears to be setting up for a more rural lifestyle with a new property on the exclusive grounds of Wentworth Golf Club. The family have a company set up under the name Wentworth,The Telegraph reports. Properties on the private land that adjoins the famous golf club can cost up to £20m. Tottenham’s stance on Kane is that he is not for sale, and that position remains consistent with the last few transfer windows despite continued interest in the 29-year-old, who was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in 2021. Kane subsequently stayed with his boyhood team and broke the club’s all-time scoring record in February with the winner against Pep Guardiola’s side. It saw Kane move beyond Jimmy Greaves’ tally of 266 goals for Spurs, which had stood since 1970. The next target in Kane’s sights is Alan Shearer’s record Premier League haul of 260 goals. After a fine individual campaign in which Kane scored 30 goals, despite the north London club finishing eighth and having three head coaches, the forward is now only 48 away from passing Shearer’s tally. Discussions between Spurs and Kane’s camp over a new contract were set to be pushed back until the end of the 2022-23 campaign, but the club are yet to appoint a director of football and Kane’s own season only finished on June 19 following England commitments. Since Fabio Paratici’s resignation in April, Tottenham’s chief scout Leonardo Gabbanini has taken a lead role on transfers and helped bring Leicester midfielder James Maddison to the club. The funniest Barbie and Oppenheimer memes as the internet continues its meltdown
The internet going crazy for two films about the ultimate kids’ doll and weapons of mass destruction couldn’t have been on many people’s 2023 bingo cards. But with Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer set to come out on the same day, 21 July, you’d be challenged to name a more iconic duo. The hype around the two movies could hardly have been more different. Barbie is, well, Barbie; it’s pink, pretty and plastic. Oppenheimer is the atom bomb, fire and brimstone, the destroyer of worlds. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The internet doesn’t see it that way though. As cinemas gear up to show the movie back-to-back – and film goers decide which order they’re going to watch them in – the meme factory has been working overtime. Here are some of the best. It recently emerged that the Barbie dream house had mysteriously appeared in Malibu. It comes complete with a pool, huge balconies and that signature pink finish. Oh, and you can stay there on Airbnb soon. Unfortunately, Oppenheimer fans had an idea for how they could counter the excellent work done by Barbie’s marketing team with a slightly more destructive piece of marketing of their own. They wouldn’t... Would they? Someone even went to the effort of making a poster. As the tension builds ahead of the big release date, people look like they’re picking teams. Margot Robbie or Cillian Murphy? Greta Gerwig or Christphoer Nolan? Plastic dreams or the everlasting sleep? You decide. As one Twitter user said: there can be no Switzerland. If you’ve seen the Barbie trailer, you’ll know that at one point she questions her place on this mortal coil. (If you haven’t seen it… Have you been living under a rock?) It’s bold writing – but even more timely when you hear the sound of death and destruction coming from the cinema screen next door. People are already planning their days. Are you Oppenheimer first, then Barbie? (Otherwise known as Oppenbarbie.) Or are you doing it the other, incorrect way? Because if you’re seeing Barbie in the morning followed by a chaser of atomic doom in the evening (Barbenheimer, apparently), you’re doing it all wrong. Elsewhere, a pink explosion heralding a totally unprecedented crossover of the two showed that life truly can be stranger than fiction. There is always, always a ‘Sopranos’ reference. Which do you fall into? These two iconic houses in Santa Monica almost nail the difference in tone between the two films without even knowing it. Yes, of course, there is merch. Even Tom Cruise couldn't resist it. And finally, here’s what everyone will look like on 21 July. We can’t wait. Have your say in our news democracy. Joe Lycett trolls Suella Braverman after Rwanda deal deemed to be 'unlawful'
Joe Lycett is back at trolling the Conservative party again, this time Suella Braverman, after the Court of Appeal ruled that the government's Rwanda asylum plan is "unlawful". Lord Burnett, the outgoing Lord Chief Justice, said: "The High Court's decision that Rwanda is a safe third country is reversed. Unless and until the deficiencies in its asylum processes are corrected, removal of asylum seekers to Rwanda will be unlawful." A major setback in prime minister Rishi Sunak's 'stop the boats' policy. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter In light of the announcement comedian Joe Lycett tweeted: "ignore the haters babe (by haters I mean the royal court of justice)" Lycett has been known to troll many Conservative MPs, after former prime minister Boris Johnson was found guilty for lying to parliament earlier this month, Lycett tweeted "@Boris Johnson still my king." Similarly, when Liz Truss announced her resignation in October last year, the comedian tweeted: "@trussliz omg just heard there's a leadership election next week????? u shud run bab youd be perfect!!!" Lycett gained a lot of attention last year for his appearance on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg after sarcastically claiming to be "very right-wing". "The haters will say that we've had 12 years of the Tories and that we're sort of at the dregs of what they've got available," the comedian said last year. "I wouldn't say that because I'm incredibly right-wing, but some people might say that." Many fans once again loved Lycett's comedic input to the current situation, with his tweet having thousands of likes. "Tweet of the day," commented one user. Others took inspiration from Lycett's sarcastic remarks and left some of their own: A government source said it was likely to challenge the ruling at Britain's Supreme Court.
