Jeremy Vine's latest on-air gaffe is textbook Alan Partridge
Radio presenter Jeremy Vine has given listeners perhaps the most quintessentially “Alan Partridge” moment when reading out a surprisingly morbid story on his BBC Radio 2 show. Vine, 58, was telling a tale about an eight-year-old who was boating with their family on the River Hull live on his show. While reading up to the point when the writer’s 12-year-old brother took control of the boat and drove it into a bridge, he started laughing. “I don’t know why I’m laughing,” he said. The contents of the letter, however, were about to get extremely dark. Vine, reading out the story, said: "When I was eight, my parents had a boat on the River Hull, one day it rained and the river rose, my parents let my 12-year-old brother drive the boat. “We were sunbathing on deck, I went to get a drink just as the galley caved in, because what he'd done is accelerated..." Chuckling, Vine continued: "...into Tickton Bridge... I don't know why I'm laughing....okay, this is not good. "The collision took my mum's arm off...blimey O'Riley... I didn't see that coming.” The listener wrote that they would have been "decapitated" if they had still been on the boat's deck. Jeremy ended with: "Okay...well that's slightly lowered the mood." Sharing the post on social media, one listener said: “Purest Alan Partridge moment from Vine, here. Gold.” Vine responded: "I can only apologise." Oops. Young Thug's lawyer claims his name stands for 'truly humble under god'
Young Thug's attorney said his moniker actually stands for "Truly Humble Under God" whilst defending him in his RICO trial. "Most people think about a thug as a criminal, but to Jeffery, 'thug' had a different meaning," said lawyer Brian Steel in an Atlanta court on Thursday. Steel said that Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, wanted to break his community out of poverty and an "endless cycle of hopelessness," and that if he achieved his goal, he would be "Truly Humble Under God." "That's what 'thug' means," said Steel, who also alluded to Tupac Shakir saying "Thug Life" was an acronym for denouncing hate. Williams has been charged with cofounding and running an Atlanta street gang called Young Slime Life by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Young Slime Life shares an acronym with Williams' record label Young Stoner Life. Other claims made during his opening statement included Steel saying that the gang call themselves YSL "because the pants, tight-fitting pants, the women's pants that they're wearing it says YSL, Yves Saint Laurent. That's where it comes from." Another argument made by Steel was that 'pushing P', the title of a song featuring Young Thug, was short for "pushing positivity." Prosecutors had accused Williams of flashing a gang sign in a photo online, but Steel claimed he was simply forming a 'P' with his fingers. "It means, in any circumstance you're in, if you think positively about something, you can make it through. You're pushing positivity," said Steel. Steel's main argument is that prosecutors had misrepresented evidence, and that it makes no sense for Williams to be running a street gang whilst already being a successful rapper." "He's not sitting there telling people to kill people. He doesn't need their money," Steel said. Prosecutors are accusing Williams and 27 other individuals of racketeering, murder, assault, theft, and drug possession. Alleging, Williams to be at the centre of it, with gang members seeking his permission to kill another rapper. Steel has said Williams was wrongly charged on all accounts. A RICO conviction can lead to a prison sentence of up to 20 years. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Rihanna's Savage X Fenty was given a worse ethics rating than Shein - and fans are shocked
Global advocacy organisation Remake reported in February that Rihanna's clothing brand Savage x Fenty score worse Than Shein in ethical practices. Rhianna, now officially a billionaire, has been praised not only for her music career, but also for her brand Savage X Fenty for showing industry competitors what inclusivity and diversity should look like. But Remake's Fashion Accountability Report scored Savage X Fenty only 4 out of 150 possible points. With Shein even outranking Rihanna's brand. With the organisation concluding the superstar's brand "blatantly disregards industry standards when it comes to social and environmental disclosures, merely noting on its website that products are 'imported.'" Most of its products use oil-based synthetic materials, and the brand hasn't set any reduction targets for this or its carbon emissions. It also lacks a Supplier Code of Conduct to define guidelines for assessing factories' compliance with international labour standards. Savage X Fenty was also fined £1 million by Santa Clara County and four other California local governments for allegedly defrauding consumers. Despite the findings being reported in February, fans of Rihanna are only just finding it, and they're shocked to say the least. "Worse than Shein is crazy," wrote one user. Many also found it unbelievable that the brand scored worse than Shein, but charged much more for their product. However, many said they weren't shocked given Rihanna's billionaire status: indy100 has contacted Savage X Fenty for comment. Controversial comedian Matt Rife says people are 'jealous' of him like they were with 'Bin Laden'
A clip from earlier this year of controversial comedian Matt Rife on influencer Tana Mongeau's podcast CANCELLED has gone viral after his bizarre response to a question. When appearing on Mongeau's podcast this summer he shared a recent "epiphany" he had. "So many f**king people hate me," he begins by saying. "For really no reason, and it really made me realise that people only hate somebody they're jealous of." He goes onto say, "I've been guilty of hating people, and when I've fully sat back and thought about it was because I was jealous of where that person was in their life. I thought maybe they'd gotten an opportunity that I should have gotten." Mongeau then asked "do you think people were hate Osama bin Laden are jealous of him?" "Yeah," Rife is heard saying, before the clip ends. In the episode Rife actually goes on to joke, "yeah of course! They're mad that he was the one calling the shots." On Twitter/X many called Rife an "idiot" and praised Mongeau's question: Rife recently came under fire for sexist jokes, specifically one about domestic violence from his show Netflix special Natural Selection. In the show tells an anecdote about a restaurant server with a black eye, who his friend claims 'should be in the kitchen' so no one can see her. "I feel like if she could cook, she wouldn't have that black eye", Rife then says. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Australian TikToker claims he's now 'dating' Sydney Sweeney after she slid into his DMs
A man has gone viral for jokingly claiming he's now dating Sydney Sweeney after she slid in his DMs. Aussie Miles Shepherd turned to TikTok to share his casual day at the beach which took a bizarre turn. In the clip that racked up four million views online, Miles was left starstruck when the Euphoria actress appeared out of nowhere. His video not only caught the attention of fellow TikTokers and the media, but also Sweeney herself who dropped him a message on Instagram reading: "u should've said hi". People were desperate to know what he responded – and he certainly did not disappoint by sharing that he asked her out. His follow-up clips then hilariously joked the pair were now dating. @mileshep #goldcoast #aus #beach #fyp #sydney #sydneysweeney "Obviously, the DMs between myself and Sydney have gone completely viral. So just wanted to come on here and tell the truth of the matter, which is Sydney and I are now seeing each other," he humoured. "And you know, the last few days has been like a movie, some would say it’s like we’re filming our own little rom-com." "For those of you saying she’s engaged, like, I don’t see a ring on. I don’t see a ring there. So we’re working through that – that’s all getting organised behind the scenes," he continued. @mileshep Replying to @rubyxcw pressure moments. Iggy Azalea and Cardi B top OnlyFans' list of top creators as jaw-dropping earnings released
Iggy Azalea and Cardi B have reportedly become two of OnlyFans' top-earning creators on the platform. The subscription site has transformed many ordinary peoples' lifestyles over the years, with many switching their regular 9-5 for their lucrative side hustle full time. Celebrities have caught wind of OnlyFans' success, and have too, jumped on the bandwagon. For most, it's seemingly paying off with Cardi B raking in $45 million since joining the platform. However, rapper Iggy Azalea took the top spot by making an alleged $48 million in less than a year. The 'Fancy' singer joined OnlyFans back in January. There were later reports that she had made hundreds of thousands of dollars in just 24 hours, which she called numbers "outta thin air". "Lol, Y'all just be saying s*** to say s*** at this point cause that number was pulled outta thin air," she wrote at the time. In another tweet, Azalea also noted that she wouldn't reveal how much money she makes on Only Fans, similar to how she didn't share what made after selling her "music catalog." "Amounts being reported don't come from a valid source. Thanks to everyone supporting me," she added. She also went on to share her most common OnlyFans request during an appearance on Andy Cohen’s talk show Watch What Happens Live. In February, she candidly told the host: "'They'll be like, 'Goddess Iggy. Please, please, please, please. I know that you don't have time for my tiny little thing, but please can you just tell me what you think about it?'" "And then I'll be like, 'Ugh! That's disgusting! Is that even a f**king d**k? You call that a f**king d**k? That's not a d**k. Why are you wasting my time with this? "Send me fifty dollars right now and don't you f**king message me again unless you give me fifty dollars next time'."
