A photo of a freeway sign in the US has gone viral because of its rather unsavoury connection: cannibalism. Police posted a picture on Facebook of the Donner Lake exit on Interstate 80 in California on Wednesday. But the lake is named after a group of Midwestern pioneers who were forced to spend the winter of 1846–47 in the Sierra Nevada mountain range: the Donner Party. The road sign, meanwhile, has a knife and fork beneath it to signify dining options like restaurants and cafes – but some people interpreted it differently. One person on Facebook said: “I heard there is a party going on up there.” Placerville California Highway Patrol’s social media page replied: “Slowly dwindling, but yes.” Another person said: “For a fine dining experience, visit beautiful Donner Lake,” to which a commenter replied, “bring the family.” One person joked that the food around the lake “was finger-licking good,” while another said that “the ribs and shoulder are amazing [there] but I wasn’t a fan of the liver and onions.” California Department of Transportation public information officer Steve Nelson said that there are 38 restaurants past the exit, “so the sign is appropriate to notify motorists, but [we] also understand the irony and that it may be considered insensitive.” That’s a lot to chew on. Leicester have completed the signing of Tottenham academy graduate Harry Winks in a £10million move. Winks, who becomes the first addition under new Foxes boss Enzo Maresca, progressed through the youth set-up at Spurs to make his debut in 2014 and went on to make 203 appearances for his boyhood club. First-team chances have been more hard to come by in recent seasons and Winks has decided to help relegated-Leicester in their bid to secure promotion from the Sky Bet Championship. England international Winks first joined Tottenham’s academy at the age of five and went on to become a regular during Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure. Winks has represented his country on 10 occasions and helped Spurs reach the Champions League final in 2019, but struggled to earn the trust of Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte. After the midfielder made just 19 Premier League appearances during the 2021-22 season, he was sent on loan to Sampdoria last summer. While his start to life in Italy was disrupted by an ankle injury, Winks went on to become a regular for Sampdoria and impressed, with Leicester now securing his services on a three-year deal. Winks could face his old club in a friendly in Bangkok on July 23. He told the official club website: “I’m delighted. I’m really excited for the challenge ahead. It’s an amazing club with great history and the facilities are incredible. In the video, a man in nothing but yellow boxer shorts is seen dipping his face into running water at what is said to be the festival site before pulling his shorts open from the back so as to allow the water to caress his buttocks. But from a distance, he does look a bit like Hancock, with similar hair at least. But speaking to indy100, a spokesperson confirmed the footage was not of Hancock. Indeed, Hancock wasn't even at Glastonbury at all, they revealed. Nevertheless, the video has accrued over 206,000 views on TikTok, with people commenting that they believed it to be Hancock. So before you share videos, do a bit of fact checking.
