Max Verstappen gives blunt verdict on Sergio Perez’s Mexico Grand Prix crash
Max Verstappen gives blunt verdict on Sergio Perez’s Mexico Grand Prix crash
Max Verstappen believes his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez crashed out of the Mexican Grand Prix because he was overexcited by the prospect of finishing on the podium at his home race. Perez tried to brake last as he arrived on the inside of the first bend alongside Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the centre and Verstappen on the outside. His Red Bull slammed into Leclerc and leapt into the air before coming down in the run-off area. He managed to crawl round to the pitlane, and Red Bull mechanics soon had him back on the road, but they threw in the towel after only five more laps. Verstappen went on to win his 51st race as Perez watched on from the garage. “I mean, I understand because it’s his home Grand Prix,” Verstappen said, assessing the crash. “You want to be on the podium, I fully understand that. “He went around the outside, and he tried. Looking at the footage, I think he could have left a little bit more space, but at the other end if it would have worked, you know, you look amazing. And of course, I think it’s just more like that excitement of wanting to be on the podium and this time it didn’t work out, unfortunately.” Verstappen added: “At the time, I didn’t really see a lot. At one point, I just saw that a car was a bit flying in the air, but then I saw the footage after the race and then you can comment on it. But while driving it’s a bit hard because I was mainly focusing on Charles, because I couldn’t see what was happening on the outside.” Perez’s position at Red Bull has come under scrutiny in recent weeks and his performance in Mexico will only have added to speculation that his seat may be going to Daniel Ricciardo next season. Perez last won a race in Azerbaijan on 30 April, and his failure to finish at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez leaves his second place in the championship under threat from Hamilton. Indeed, the seven-time world champion reduced the gap from 39 points to 20 with his strong display. I had a very good start and I was only thinking of winning the race. I didn’t want to be on the podium. I’ve been on the podium two years in a row. “I saw the opportunity and I went for it. In hindsight, I took a risk, but if I had pulled it off I would have come out of Turn 1 in the lead. I didn’t expect Charles to brake so late since he was the car in the middle. He had a lot less margin than Max, who was on the inside, and I was the one who could brake the latest because I was on the outside.” Read More Christian Horner drops Daniel Ricciardo hint as pressure mounts on Sergio Perez Kevin Magnussen’s car catches fire after high-speed crash in Mexico F1 fan banned for life after attacking Ferrari supporters in Mexico

Rosanna Pansino apologises to MrBeast after sparking YouTube drama with editing complaints
Rosanna Pansino has apologised after accusing MrBeast of unfairly editing her during a recent video. The YouTuber previously accused MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, of effectively lying about the outcome of a recent viral challenge. Pansino competed in one of the three hide-and-seek challenges hosted by MrBeast in Creator Games 3, and she previously accused MrBeast of presenting a version of events which didn’t really happen and reducing her role in the clip. The YouTuber posted a message on Twitter/X last week with the caption: “I have been allowing others to treat me poorly in private for many years and I’m fed up. Extreme $1,000,000 Hide And Seek www.youtube.com “I am going to start standing up for myself and finding my voice.” The content creator wrote: “When the video was released I was shocked, disappointed, and felt hurt. MrBeast (Jimmy) had edited the video to make me look like I performed worse than I did. This was extra upsetting because I genuinely believed him when he said that his videos are ‘authentic and real’.” Pansino also disputed the top three shown in the video, which were Zach King, Logan Paula and Larray. “The final [three] people were actually Zach, Quackity, and myself,” Pansino said. “This is what actually happened. Despite Jimmy editing out the only female in the top [three], I was proud of what I achieved.” Now, Pansino has apologised to MrBeast. She deleted the tweets and said sorry for criticising him publicly, while also stating that she had received death threats after posting on social media. “I would like to apologize to MrBeast,” she wrote. “I should have expressed my feelings privately and handled things directly. “I will be removing all of the posts where I talk about Creator Games and Jimmy. I will be honest in that the thousands of death threats I've received today are a contributing factor, but I do also sincerely hear the feedback from so many of you.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Have your say in our news democracy. Friends star Matthew Perry's cause of death 'inconclusive' after post-morten
Matthew Perry’s cause of death remains uncertain, after an initial post-mortem came back “inconclusive”. The cause of death has been “deferred,” and a toxicology report is needed to work out what happened, according to a report released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. An official conclusion isn’t likely to be released for several weeks, the medical examiner’s office said. However, it added in a statement that the body was ready to be released to Perry’s family. The Friends star died on Saturday at his home in Los Angeles, seemingly having drowned in a jacuzzi. He was 54. Since then, tributes have poured in from both his Friends colleagues and others for an actor who earned himself a cult following thanks to his sarcastic quips as fan-favourite Chandler Bing. Included in those was Friends co-star Maggie Wheeler, who played Perry’s on-off girlfriend Janice Hosenstein during the early series of the TV show and often appeared to perform her catchphrase: “Oh! My! God!” She said: “What a loss. The world will miss you Matthew Perry. The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared.” Perry, who was nominated for an Emmy for his role in Friends, starred alongside Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Courteney Cox – who played Perry’s on-screen wife Monica Geller. The five co-stars were set to release a joint statement following the death of their “brother” Matthew Perry, sources said on Monday. “The cast is reeling from the loss of their brother, because that’s what Matty was — their brother,” an industry source told Page Six. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department said first responders went to a home in Pacific Palisades on Saturday based on a 911 call responding to a “water emergency”.
