Manchester United v Man City LIVE: Premier League team news and line-ups as Jonny Evans starts
Manchester United host Manchester City in the Premier League today for the 191st derby between the two rivals. Erik ten Hag’s side have won three games on the bounce after league victories over Brentford and Sheffield United as well as that dramatic last-gasp victory over Copenhagen in the Champions League in midweek. None of those wins were particularly convincing, however, and United fans might be nervous about the prospect of facing the treble winners after such a shaky start to the season. Then again, City haven’t been quite at their best in recent weeks either, with defeats by Wolves and Arsenal in the Premier League, although they bounced back from that loss at the Emirates earlier this month with wins over Brighton and Swiss side Young Boys. Pep Guardiola has said that the derby is always “special” but played down the significance of this one result on the title race, as City chase early pace-setters Tottenham. Follow all the latest updates from the Manchester derby below, and get all the latest football betting sites offers here. Brentford roast Chelsea with savage TikTok after another Stamford Bridge win
Brentford have savagely roasted Chelsea on TikTok after they beat their West London rivals in the Premier League on Saturday at Stamford Bridge. The Blues' stuttering start to the 23/24 season continued on Saturday afternoon when despite having the majority of possession and chances still managed to lose to the Bees. A header from Ethan Pinnock, against the run of play, opened the scoring on 58 minutes. Chelsea then strived to get an equaliser which resulted in goalkeeper Robert Sanchez going up for a corner in added on time. However, this backfired as Brentford were able to spring a breakaway counterattack allowing Bryan Mbuemo to slot home into an empty net and give Thomas Frank's side all three points. This was in fact the third season in a row that Brentford have won at Chelsea and ended their streak of three away games without a win having dropped points against Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United. Brentford indeed noted this unique record that they hold over Chelsea in a rather savage TikTok post. In the video, which is soundtracked by a rendition of 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' from the movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the Bees note their poor away record. The song, which jokingly starts off badly, is overlayed with Brentford's prior away results. However, the song improves as Brentford note that they are 'Going back to Stamford Bridge' as we see Mbuemo score the decisive goal. @brentfordfc Visit TikTok to discover videos! The TikTok has been viewed 1.8 million times at the time of writing. It will certainly make painful viewing for Chelsea, with some Brentford players enjoying more wins at Stamford Bridge than many of the Blues squad members. Chelsea have only won once at home in the league this season beating Luton Town 3-0 back in August. In the calendar year Chelsea have won just six times at Stamford Bridge as a rebuild under numerous different managers still struggles to ignite. Liverpool forward Luis Diaz’s parents kidnapped by gunmen in Colombia
The parents of Liverpool forward Luis Diaz were kidnapped in Colombia after being stopped by gunmen on motorbikes. Diaz’s mother was rescued but his father remains missing, Colombia’s president Gustavo Petro said. Did The Simpsons predict Tyson Fury’s controversial win against Francis Ngannou?
A second member of the Fury family has scored a contentious boxing win over their opponent, with Tyson Fury beating Francis Ngannou by way of split decision in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night, and sparking claims Ngannou was “robbed” of a victory. It’s not the first time this month that the charge has been levelled at a Fury, as 14 October saw Tyson’s half-brother Tommy (of Love Island fame) defeat YouTuber Olajide “KSI” Olatunji in a divisive majority decision result – later revised to a unanimous decision following a judging error. The rapper and content creator didn’t react well to the “outrageous” result, one he said he was going to appeal. Twitter/X was just as shocked by the outcome, to the extent that “rigged” trended on the social media platform after the fight. And a similar accusation was made by users following Saturday’s match, not least because Ngannou managed to knock down Fury during their bout: Some have even claimed The Simpsons – famed for having many episodes coincidentally foreshadow real-life events – predicted the fight’s result: The story in question is “The Homer They Fall” from season eight of the popular animated series, in which the disaster-prone dad takes up professional boxing, only to get a pounding from fighter Drederick Tatum. However, it can’t really be said that The Simpsons guessed the outcome of this particular scrap. Al Jean, one of the show’s original writers, told NME that another writer offered up this explanation: “[He said] if you write 700 episodes, and you don’t predict anything, then you’re pretty bad. “If you throw enough darts, you’re going to get some bullseyes…” Not to mention that the image of bartender Moe Szyslak raising Homer’s hand is not how the fight ends. Instead, just as Tatum is about to deliver a knockout blow to a dazed Simpson, Szyslak swoops in on a paramotor to fly him out of the building to safety. And that definitely didn’t happen in the Fury vs Ngannou match… Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Have your say in our news democracy.
