iPhone 15: Apple announces event to reveal new phone
Apple will hold a “special event” in the coming days, it has revealed. The live streamed event will almost certainly see the launch of the new iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9, but could bring other products too. Apple will hold the event on 12 September, at 10am local pacific time, or 5pm in the UK, it said. Apple gave no clues about what that launch might include in its invitation. It only showed a picture of the Apple logo being swept away as if it was made of sand – and a single word to describe the event. Apple has hinted at the contents of previous events in its invitations. Last year, for instance, it called the event “Far Out” and included a picture of stars – which turned out to be a reference to the satellite communication technology in the iPhone 14. This year’s image does include the colours that have been rumoured to be included in the iPhone 15 Pro lineup. Reports have suggested that will include four hues: a deep blue, a black, and a lighter and darker shade of grey. Beyond those colours, the iPhone 15 Pro and Max are set to include a new and faster chip, a new action button on the side, a slightly different design with smaller bezels and titanium frame, and better battery life. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is also rumoured to include a new periscope camera that will allow for further zoom without adding extra bulk to the lens. The non-Pro versions of the iPhone 15 will largely be brought in line with the existing iPhone 14 Pro, rumours have suggested, though all the new phones will get a USB-C port. That will include getting its faster A16 Bionic chip, the dynamic island at the top of the display that replaced the notch and an improved camera. The event will be live streamed from Apple Park. Since the pandemic, Apple has moved away from holding onstage events, instead producing small films that are broadcast live online and shown to press at a screening at its Apple Park campus. Students told ‘avoid all robots’ after Oregon University bomb threat prank
Students told ‘avoid all robots’ after Oregon University bomb threat prank
Students at the Oregon State University were warned to “avoid all robots” following a bomb threat prank involving automated food delivery machines on campus. The threat was made by a student on Tuesday via social media, causing university staff to issue the urgent warning. “Bomb Threat in Starship food delivery robots. Do not open robots. Avoid all robots until further notice. Public Safety is responding,” the institute wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. The university later provided several updates on the unfolding situation, saying that the robots had been isolated in a “safe location” before being inspected by a technician. Students were advised to “remain vigilant for suspicious activity”. The emergency was declared over just before 2pm local time with “normal activities” resuming. “All robots have been inspected and cleared. They will be back in service by 4pm today,” the university later wrote online. Starship, the company that designs the robots, said that despite the student’s subsequent admission that the bomb threat had been “a joke”, it had suspended the service while investigations were ongoing. In its own statement, the company wrote: “A student at Oregon State University sent a bomb threat, via social media, that involved Starship’s robots on the campus. “While the student has subsequently stated this is a joke and a prank, Starship suspended the service. “Safety is of the utmost importance to Starship and we are cooperating with law enforcement and the university during this investigation.” Read More University of Michigan slithers toward history with massive acquisition of jarred snake specimens Trump boasts that he ‘killed’ Tom Emmer’s speaker bid ‘Bandaid on an open chest wound’: Democrats mock latest speaker chaos

Juanma Lillo says Man City ‘well managed’ as he fills in for Pep Guardiola
Juanma Lillo says Man City ‘well managed’ as he fills in for Pep Guardiola
Juanma Lillo will introduce himself to the Premier League at large on Sunday as he takes charge of champions Manchester City in Pep Guardiola’s absence. Guardiola’s little-known number two will call the shots from the dugout as the treble winners travel to Sheffield United without their influential manager. Guardiola is recuperating in Spain after undergoing back surgery earlier this week and so Lillo, who only rejoined the club this summer after a year away, finds himself in the spotlight. The experienced 57-year-old has had a varied and interesting coaching career, working in countries including Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Japan and China as well as his native Spain. He first joined Guardiola’s backroom staff after the departure of Mikel Arteta in 2020 and spent two years at the Etihad Stadium before leaving to take up a post in Qatar. City swept to Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup glory without him but Guardiola sought to bring him back after the exits of Enzo Maresca and Rodolfo Borrell at the end of the campaign. The pair have been friends since Guardiola played under Lillo at Mexican side Dorados de Sinaloa and were keen to work together again. “When I left was more of a ‘see you later’,” said Lillo at a press conference. “He’s someone very special to me, not only in footballing terms. “I am here to be with someone who’s been very important in my life.” Lillo recognises he has returned to a very strong set-up and is determined to do his best to ensure it remains that way. He said: “A good team without good players is impossible, but at the moment we have good players and a really good coach. It’s very well managed. “The way we train has a lot to do towards the way we play. That’s how we do it. “Things might not always go our way, but I can assure you that we’re going to continue doing things the right way.” Bernardo Silva, who signed a new contract at City this week, is available again for the trip to Bramall Lane after illness. New signing Jeremy Doku could come into the reckoning but John Stones and Kevin De Bruyne are sidelined.
