Owner of day care where toddler died of suspected fentanyl exposure faces federal drug charges
The owner of a New York day care where a one-year-old boy died of fentanyl exposure now faces federal charges. Youngster Nicholas Dominici died after he was exposed to the opioid at the Bronx facility on Friday, while three other young children were hospitalised. Daycare owner Grei Mendez, 36, and tenant Carlisto Acevedo Brito, 41, were arrested on state charges including murder, manslaughter and assault. Now federal prosecutors say they have also been charged with narcotics possession with intent to distribute resulting in death and conspiracy to distribute narcotics resulting in death, reported ABC News. A kilo of fentanyl was found in a hallway closet outside Mr Brito’s room, which he rented from Ms Mendez for $200 a week, according to investigators. Prosecutors told a judge during a Sunday night arraignment hearing that Ms Mendez had taken part in the “reckless depraved act” by renting the room to Mr Brito, her husband’s cousin, reported ABC News. Her lawyer told the court that his client, who faces a sentence of life imprisonment if convicted, had no idea that drugs were being stored at the daycare. Police say that drug production equipment was also found inside the daycare. Investigators believe that the children inhaled fentanyl particles during their daylong exposure to the drug before they were found unconscious and the alarm was raised. Both suspects were deemed flight risks by the judge and are being held without bail. “I love him, I miss him, I want him back – but there’s nothing that will give me back my son – when I came home from work and walked through the door, he’d say ‘daddy, daddy!’” Nicholas’s father, Otoniel Feliz, told ABC7. “My wife was on her way to the day care. She was going to pick him up early. Shortly before she arrives, she receives the call and also sees the ambulance.” Read More Owner of day care where toddler died of suspected fentanyl exposure dubbed ‘depraved’ in court hearing Daycare owner and neighbour charged after one-year-old child died from suspected fentanyl exposure One-year-old child dead and three others hospitalised after daycare incident

Who is Children in Need presenter Lenny Rush and how did he become a child star?
Lenny Rush, the Bafta-winning child actor, is set to make history as the first child presenter of the BBC’s charity fundraiser for Children in Need on Friday night. Rush, 14, who has a form of dwarfism known as Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia congenita (Harry Potter actor Warwick Davis has the same condition), started off his acting career with a number of appearances in children’s television, including CBeebies series Apple Tree House and CBBC’s Dodger and The Dumping Ground – the latter of which is an expansion of the Tracy Beaker franchise. He's also worked on a few productions by writer Jack Thorne, including on his retelling of A Christmas Carol at London’s Old Vic Theatre and his BBC series Best Interests. Rush is an award winner, too, having won the gong for best male comedy performance in Daisy May Cooper’s Am I Being Unreasonable?. As for future roles, he’s set to appear alongside 15th Doctor and Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa in the next series of Doctor Who, playing the character of Morris once David Tennant’s 60th anniversary specials are out of the way. Speaking of Doctor Who, a special ‘minisode’ of the fantasy series will air during Friday’s TV event, starring Tennant who has returned to the fan favourite programme as the Fourteenth Doctor. Rush will co-present Children in Need alongside sports personalities Ade Adepitan and Alex Scott, and comedians Mel Giedroyc, Jason Manford and Chris Ramsey. The teenager said of the presenting role: “It’s an honour and a thrill to be the first child presenter for Children in Need. I can’t wait to feel the buzz of a live show and to help raise money for children and young people across the UK facing disadvantages. “I’m so excited.” Children in Need will be broadcast live from Salford and gets underway from 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Celtic win Scottish Cup to seal treble as Ange Postecoglou faces questions on future
Celtic clinched the domestic treble with a 3-1 Scottish Cup final win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Hampden Park. The showpiece occasion was played against the backdrop of mounting speculation around Tottenham’s interest in Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou, who again had Kyogo Furuhashi to thank for his contribution. The Japan striker struck for the 34th times this season in the 38th minute of an otherwise nondescript first half to undo the good early work of Billy Dodds’ rank outsiders. The Championship outfit, who had not played a competitive game for a month, fell further behind when Hoops’ half-time substitute Liel Abada slid in a second in the 65th minute. Caley substitute Dan MacKay pulled a goal back with five minutes remaining, only for Portuguese winger Jota to restore Celtic’s two-goal advantage as the game slipped into six minutes of added time. It is the eighth time Celtic had completed the clean sweep of League, League Cup and Scottish Cup - a world record - and now eyes turn to see what the future holds for Postecoglou, who is the fifth Parkhead manager to win the treble. Postecoglou has been heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur and wouldn’t be drawn by questions about him possibly leaving. “I think I deserve to enjoy this moment just like everyone else. I worked really hard for this moment,” Postecoglou told the BBC. “There will be a time to come for those kinds of questions but for now, we’ve grasped a small chunk of history for ourselves and I’m not going to pass that by by being sidetracked.” Joe Hart said: “When you are around amazing footballers and top managers, the noise is always there - but that is all it is. “We are privileged to be on the inside and today was the focus all week, the manager made that very clear. “Whatever happens now will (happen) - it is the world of football, full of speculation and rumour, but the facts today were we had a treble to focus on and we did it.” Celtic defender Greg Taylor reflected on the "historic" day for the Glasgow club following another domestic treble. "The manager's motto is he wants us to improve every day, not to waste a training session, never mind a game. That is the reason why we have had this success," Taylor said. "Some players go through their career not winning one trophy, so to win three in a season is really special. "It says everything about the group of players, the staff and fans. It has been a collective effort." Celtic captain Callum McGregor paid tribute to the work of Postecoglou in turning the club's fortunes around. "You have got to bounce back when you suffer, you have to pick yourself up and get the lads to rally around each other, and that is what we did," McGregor said. "The manager came in and the group of boys that were left, we felt like we had something to prove. "It has taken us two years to get our trophies back, and the boys have worked ever so hard. We just have to enjoy the day."
