LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Percy Hynes White, who portrayed Xavier Thorpe in Season 1 of Netflix's 'Wednesday', has criticized the numerous sexual assault claims made against him. The actor responded to the "baseless, harmful claims" in an Instagram story on Tuesday, June 6, and refuted all charges made against him, as per Daily Mail.
In a string of now-deleted Tweets, the actor, age 21, was accused of engaging in predatory behavior toward women. This led to calls for him to be fired from the Tim Burton program and the creation of the hashtag #CancelPercy. According to Poptopic, Percy allegedly won't appear in the second season of Netflix's 'Wednesday'.
'Somebody I’ve never met started a campaign of misinformation'
Percy, in his Instagram story, wrote: "Hey everyone. There’s something I need to clarify; Earlier this year, somebody I’ve never met started a campaign of misinformation about me online. Because of this, my family has been doxxed, and my friends have received death threats."
'The Gifted' star stated that in addition to individuals exploiting "underage photos" and "examples of me acting in character" to paint him as "hateful," his friend "Jane was falsely portrayed as a victim" and that her "attempts to set the record straight have been ignored."
White said in his statement that "the rumors are false" and that he would not put up with being called "someone bigoted, or criminally negligent of people’s safety." He continued to state, "These are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust toward victims."
White thanked his followers for their support and called the distribution of false information "distressing" as he wrapped up his post. "Harassment of my family, friends and coworkers needs to stop please," he wrote. "Thank you for taking the time to read this."
Percy Hynes White accused of alleged sexual assault
The hashtag #cancelpercy gained traction on Twitter earlier this year as a result of a user accusing White of predatory conduct, emailing obscene photographs to minors, and using a racial epithet while performing. The Twitter thread was later removed. While some viewers have demanded that the upcoming season of 'Wednesday' recast White's character, Xavier Thorpe, other viewers have voiced their support for White by using the hashtag #savepercy.
According to MSN, the wave of accusations started when a Twitter user started a thread on the blog site with screenshots of texts from young women who had been subjected to White's sexual assault. She continued by calling him a "serial" abuser and urging everyone to pay attention to anybody and everyone who might have horrifying tales about the actor to tell. She also claimed on Twitter that White had body-shamed women by calling them "fat, sl*ts, w***es, c**ts, ugly, liars" when they refused his advances.
Following the allegations, White, who is rumored to be seeing his co-star Jenna Ortega, 20, stopped posting on Instagram and allowed fewer comments on his pictures. The second season of 'Wednesday' was announced earlier this year. However, it is uncertain whether White is going to return.
