Why is Tommy Fury popularly known as 'TNT'? Exploring origin of boxer and 'Love Island' alum's nickname

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND: Tommy Fury, the younger brother of Tyson Fury, popularly known as "TNT," is a professional boxer and television personality who gained notoriety for his boxing prowess but also for finishing second on the 2019 season of 'Love Island' with his partner Molly-Mae Hague. He is also known as 'The Nightmare'.

Fury who goes by his ring name 'TNT' has barely started his professional boxing career but has gained a momentous rise and spotlight after announcing his boxing match with YouTube star Jake Paul earlier this year.

Meaning and origin of Tommy Furry's nickname

Tommy's professional boxing career began in 2018 when he faced Jevgenijs Andrejevs in Manchester. He has won every fight thereafter, including four by knockout. All of this simply serves to demonstrate that he is more than just a beautiful face; thanks to his unblemished record and incredible punching power, he consistently prevails. But, what does TNT stand for? The 23-year-old boxer is known as TNT in the ring, which is short for trinitrotoluene, a highly explosive and combustible compound found in dynamite.

According to Screen Rant, TNT symbolizes the younger Fury's strength and ability within the squared circle, which enable him to knock out most opponents with just one blow. The young fighter's nickname says a lot about his potential and his goals for leveraging it to achieve outstanding success in the arena. Fury has eight fights under his belt and four knockout victories. When compared to his brother, Tyson has knocked out 24 opponents throughout the course of his 33-fight career.

'I want to stop watching Youtube boxing'

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, ahead of his proposed fight with KSI, Tommy Fury has called YouTube boxing 'a joke' and promises to put an end to it within 12 months. Further, Fury went into great depth about 'eliminating' Youtubers. He said, "I'm hoping we can finish this KSI conflict so I can eliminate another YouTuber. I have that in mind for this year. Within a year, I want to stop watching YouTube boxing."

He then added, “So that's my plan. So we'll see. I don't know. I just take it one fight at a time. All these guys are the same to me. There's not one that stands out from the rest. They're all about the same So anyone can get it. I'm not bothered.”
