Why did PewDiePie want to quit YouTube nearly 3 years ago?

PewDiePie spoke about his future on YouTube in a video titled ‘Why I didn't quit’, a seven-minute examination of what made him consider giving up content production and what kept him from doing so.

After he became the first creator on the Google-owned platform to surpass the 100-million-subscriber milestone four years ago, his popularity and recognition have extended beyond his creation of the material.

What made him want to quit?

PewDiePie started his YouTube channel in 2010, and by posting "let's play", humorous commentary, and video games videos, he quickly rose through the ranks of all content creators. Later, he broadened his output to include really well-liked meme reviews and reaction content. He also faced several difficulties along the road, which made his life extremely challenging but he eventually came out of it.

“Two years ago when I decided that I was gonna quit. It was because I had gone through too much drama at the time. You know, it hasn't always been perfect. but I do feel I have gone through a lot of scrutiny as well. And the negative was just outweighing the good at that point,” as per Sportskeeda.

The Swedish YouTuber seems to have suffered due to the negative press and constant scrutiny, but he persisted. PewDiePie praised his followers and audience for enabling him to build a successful career around doing the things he enjoys as he reminisced about the good old days.

“But it didn't feel right to quite when other people, especially when so many people were still being so supportive. And yeah, I look back on my 10 years on YouTube and it's been a wild f****ng ride. And I would do it all again in a heartbeat,” he added.

‘I wasn't getting anything out of the money’

He continued by explaining how the quest for more subscribers and views robbed content creation of its enjoyable element and rendered all of his achievements meaningless.

“I realized at that time that, you know, to keep trying to push the channel more and more and more all the time wasn't doing anything for me personally. I wasn't getting anything out of the money, the recognition, or the fame. At least that part had peaked, you know?” he added.

He even went so far as to claim that he was only acting in this manner because it was required of him by others. “Felt like I was just growing the channel just because you are expected to do so,” PewDiePie stated.

All this built up to what his goals are for the channel going forward. PewDiePie admitted that he no longer forces himself to create content, which is largely why his uploads have been haphazard over the past few years.
