Whoopi Goldberg battles Covid-19 for the third time, misses ‘The View’ season premiere

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Whoopi Goldberg, the co-host of 'The View,' is recovering from her third Covid-19 infection, according to her colleague Joy Behar.

Behar announced on Tuesday that Goldberg was absent from the show’s season premiere because of the infection.

Will Whoopi Goldberg return to 'The View' after Covid-19?

Goldberg is recovering and may likely return to to the show this week.

"It's back!, but she's on the mend," Behar said, as per Fox News.

Behar said, "She’s on the tail end and she’ll probably be back this week."

Behar apologized saying, "...but sorry she’s not here for those of you who were looking forward to seeing her.”

When did Whoopi Goldberg contract Covid-19 before?

Goldberg, who is vaccinated, had previously contracted the virus in January and November 2022.

She described her experience as “a tough Covid diagnosis" and warned people not to take the virus lightly.

“You don’t want to get this. It’s not funny. You don’t want this. This will kill you! What’s the matter with you people?” she said in November 2022 after returning to the show.

Who has tested positive for Covid-19 on 'The View' before?

'The View' has been affected by the pandemic in various ways.

In 2021, two co-hosts, Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin, tested positive for Covid-19 minutes before an interview with Vice-President Kamala Harris.

The tests turned out to be false positives, but the interview had to be conducted backstage.

The show has also been vocal about the need for Covid-19 precautions and vaccinations, often clashing with conservative guests and politicians.

Is Covid-19 infection increasing?

The publich health authorities have noted an increase in the Covid-19 infection, which means the virus is again spreading.

Notbally, first lady Jill Biden also tested positive for the virus on Monday. She is said to have expereinced mild symptoms, as per reports.

Joe Biden, however, tetsed negative for the virus.

Even as there are increased infections, the total number is said to be low and is not believed that the US will experience dangerous waves like what was witnessed in 2020 and 2021.

However, the two new variants of coronavirus are worrying the scientists.

They are called EG.5 and BA.2.86. While EG.5 is spreading fast in the United States, it has become the most common variant.

BA.2.86 is not as common, but it has many changes from the original virus. This could make it harder for the vaccines to work against it, New York Times reported.
