LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: One of the hottest topics in the film and TV industry lately has been the writers' strike, which has affected several productions. From the disruption of major films to bloopers on talk shows, every little nook and cranny is being affected by this writers strike. One talk show that has definitely suffered from the strike is ‘The View’ where the co-hosts fumble over topics, come unprepared for interviews, and look for producer's cues on when to start or stop.
Most recently, co-host Whoopi Goldberg has issued a warning to all the viewers and fans of ‘The View’ letting them know that the writers are currently unavailable. This could have been prompted by the producers, especially after the plethora of blunders that have been made since the writers’ strike. Nevertheless, Whoopi has gotten ahead of the game so fans don’t blame them for badly written material.

‘We don’t have writers, okay?’
While Whoopi supports the writers and their ongoing strike, she issued a warning to the viewers ahead of the segments to make sure their tracks were covered. Whoopi said, “Now we’re always talking about how we’re very different than most other talk shows. Well, as you know there was a writers’ strike and so we don’t have writers, okay? So you’re gonna hear how it would be when it’s not you know…slicked up.” After Whoopi’s statement, Joy Behar rebuttals with “We don’t have writers today, we usually do have writers.” With a little back and forth, the co-hosts laugh it off, leaving the viewers thinking more about how the strike has impacted ‘The View.’ Frankly, this warning could have been issued earlier, or not at all, considering the highs and lows the talk show continues to experience. The heavy emphasis is on the lows.
Gun violence, unprepared interviews, and more
There has been a significant shift in the content that is being delivered by the co-hosts on ‘The View’ and the mistakes are glaringly obvious. The least problematic thing is that they have to read off their cue cards which are most likely freshly prepared by them and the producers right before the show. While ‘The View’ is built on the premise of women having candid conversations, the importance of writers has been seen in the last few days. Whether it was when Karen Gillan appeared on ‘The View’ to promote ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3’ and was met with an unprepared, half-baked interview. Or the time when Sara Haines blamed gun violence on video games and porn. In addition, the co-hosts have cut each other off multiple times in between segments, and this could have easily been avoided if there were writers on ‘The View.’ Whoopi admits that they are “stumbling through” but will continue to support the writers on strike.
