Who was Alan Weber? Long Island man shot dead by cop after he allegedly confronted officer with swords

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Suffolk County Police Department has confirmed that Alan Weber, a 54-year-old Long Island man, had died after an officer shot him on Tuesday, October 10.

The authorities added that it happened while officers were “confronted” with swords when they were responding to a 911 call.

Why was Alan Weber shot?

Alan Weber suffered a fatal shot from a cop and died on Tuesday after he allegedly wielded two swords. The 911 call was made against the 54-year-old, claiming that he was “acting violent” at home, as per police.

Weber was allegedly “screaming and breaking items,” and officers then tried to enter his house. He then brandished what appeared to be two swords, according to the police statement.

“When Mr. Weber walked towards the officers, one of the officers tased him, but the taser failed to subdue him. Mr. Weber again advanced towards the officers, and the other officer fired his service weapon in response,” the statement read.

It added, “Mr. Weber was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officers recovered two fencing swords at the scene.”

OSI to carry out independent investigation

As per the law, there will be “a full investigation of the incident,” the statement added.

OSI proceeds to conduct such an investigation on any cases where a police officer or peace officer, including a corrections officer, causes the death of a person, “whether the officer may be on-duty or off-duty, and the decedent may be armed or unarmed. Also, the decedent may or may not be in custody or incarcerated.”

According to neighbors, Weber acted erratically throughout the afternoon, on that day. He had reached out to different neighbors in their houses, per NBC New York.

A few of his acquaintances said he suffered from mental illness. Weber used to compete at fencing tournaments as per Fencing Tracker, per People.

In an unrelated incident last year, in the New York City subway, an attack took place at the hands of a samurai sword-wielding suspect clad in a ninja suit. It took place on a northbound A train at the Chambers Street station in Lower Manhattan, police said, and the man was arrested.

The victim, a man who suffered leg injuries said in an interview, “Wow, all I can say to be honest is to give thanks to God, so that way this guy cannot do it again to somebody else.”

He added, “I have to take the train when I go to work and I still remember it in my memory, that feeling, that sensation. So, knowing this guy got arrested, I feel a little more easy.”
