HOUSTON, TEXAS: Surveillance footage of a woman has been released by the Houston Police Department to find her as she allegedly delivered her baby at a gas station bathroom before leaving the child to die. The incident reportedly happened in April 2023 at a Shell Station on South Post Oak Road but the CCTV clips have been released after cops failed to find any lead in the case.
The newborn, who was a baby girl, was discovered by a person at around 4.30 in the morning on April 2. But she did not survive and was dead even before the arrival of the Houston Fire Department paramedics. Authorities are still working to find the baby’s cause of death, Daily Mail reports.
Who is Texas Bathroom Mom?
The identity of the woman is not known yet but it has reportedly been confirmed that she’s a “Hispanic female.” Also, in a statement, while releasing the footage to the public, the officials said, “Houston police are asking for the public's help in locating a person of interest wanted for questioning in the death of an infant found at 13114 South Post Oak Road about 4.25 am on April 2.”
“Surveillance video of the person of interest believed to be the infant's mother and an unknown white Cadillac vehicle is attached to this news release. She has not been charged at this time,” it added.
The seemingly edited video clip first shows the unknown woman leaving her white Cadillac and entering the station’s store. It then shows her returning to her car before exiting the place. As per the police, the apparent suspect spent “about 15 minutes” in the bathroom. HPD Homicide Detective Calab Bowling reportedly said, “No one else went inside that bathroom, and [the newborn] was not there when she walked in before.”
‘It’s tragic’
Though it’s not clear yet if the infant was stillborn or if she lost her life after coming into this world, paramedics shared that she was dead before being found in the loo. Besides, regarding the woman, Bowling noted, “It appears that she gave birth in the restroom.”
“I’d like to let her know that we just want to talk to her, we just want to find out some more information, want to be able to put in some answers to the situation. It’s tragic that it’s played out the way that it has,” he added.
