Who is Tamra Davis? 'Crossroads' director expresses shock over Britney Spears' memoir revelations

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tamra Davis, the director of the 2002 movie 'Crossroads', reacted to Britney Spears' revelations in the pop icon's upcoming memoir 'The Woman in Me'.

The teen comedy-drama starred Britney Spears alongside Zoe Saldana, Taryn Manning, and Anson Mount.

Davis was speaking with Yahoo Entertainment when she reacted to the pop icon's revelations.

The highly anticipated memoir will hit the stores on October 24.

Who is Tamra Davis?

A film, television, and music video director, Davis began her career by directing music videos.

She has directed acts for singers and bands like Tone Loc, Depeche Mode, Indigo Girls, NWA, Hanson, and Sonic Youth. Besides 'Crossroads', Davis has also directed feature films like 'CB4', 'Billy Madison' and 'Half Baked'.

Throughout the interview with Yahoo Entertainment, the director praised Spears and conveyed her support for the singer.

She also recalled working closely with Spears' acting coach to ensure the singer's acting was comparable to her co-stars.

Davis spoke about how Spears embraced her character Lucy Wagner in the movie.

"She had to really go deep and find this character. So, yeah, you never know. I'm shocked that she said that she started to become that character after a while, but I think there was comfort in that character as well, because she was just one of the girls, finally," Davis said.

"She was part of an ensemble and she was part of this group of people where you're equal on a movie and you're not just the star, which is who she was on tour. But on set, you're the same with me," she added.

Tamra Davis reacts to Britney Spears' abortion revelation

Davis was sorry to hear that Britney Spears aborted her child with her then-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake.

"I mean, that's why you write a memoir, as you go through your life and you think about these things that happened to you and your regrets and those things," she said.

"It's important for her to be able to tell her truth and also understand how she saw things... That's really intense. I'm sorry that she had to go through that, and also I hope she had support going through that decision," said the director.

Davis said she had no idea about Spears' personal life while filming 'Crossroads'. "So I read that today, and I was like, 'Well, it was such an interesting journey with her to get her to do this, to act, to be this character,' and I had to break her down to remove Britney the star to make her Lucy the character," she recalled.

Britney Spears helped re-release 'Crossroads'

The director said in the interview that she was unsuccessful in re-releasing the movie on Blu-ray or streaming.

"It was Britney who called to get the film re-released," said Davis.

"I've been trying to do that forever. I was calling lawyers, I was calling people that I knew... And then all of a sudden I got a call from Sony. 'Hey, can you supervise the color correction we want for the film?' And [they said] that it was Britney that called and got the film out of Paramount to Sony so that it could be released," she noted.

'Crossroads' will be in theatres for a two-day event on October 23 and 25, while Spear's memoir will be out on October 24.

Davis also extended her support to Spears, saying, "I'm there for her, and we'll do anything for her."
