NEWARK, NEW JERSEY: John Amos has spent weeks fighting for his life in a hospital's ICU after being assaulted. His daughter, Shannon, claimed that he was a victim of elderly abuse, resulting in an ongoing investigation. However, in a surprising turn of events, Amos has accused his own daughter of mistreating him. This accusation comes merely a week after Shannon made a public plea for $500,000, alleging that her father was being exploited by a supposed "caregiver."
Earlier this week, Amos, known for his roles in 'Good Times', 'Coming to America' and 'The West Wing', shared a video on his son's Instagram account. The video captures Amos reclining in a hospital gown, accompanied by his son KC by his bedside. In the video, Amos can be seen speaking on the phone to a man presumed to be a lawyer specializing in cases of elderly abuse.
'She’s the one that I would attribute my elderly abuse to'
The star leveled allegations against Shannon, claiming that he felt that she had "taken advantage" of him. "I am very capable. And I am very confident in the doctors that I have here in the medical staff that my son has assembled around me. I feel very good about that. My main issues are that prior to entering the hospital, I had some ongoing issues with my daughter, who I feel has taken advantage of me," Amos said in the video filmed from the hospital. He continued, "She would be the primary suspect — if you would. I don’t know if that’s the right term to use or not. But she’s the one that I would attribute my elderly abuse to. It’s definitely a case of elderly abuse."
"To all of my fans, I want to share this video with you to show you that I am not in the distressed condition as described in the GoFundMe page," Amos told People, adding, "As a matter of fact, I am doing well."
