Who is Philip Walker? Fellow inmate at Suffolk County Jail voices worries over Rex Heuermann's safety

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK: Philip Walker, a fellow inmate fears for the safety of Rex Heuermann, the alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer. Walker reportedly said that Heuermann, 59, is currently isolated and on suicide watch at the Riverhead facility.

Heuermann from Nassau County on Long Island, New York was arrested last week for killing three sex workers, called 'Gilgo Four' and cops are looking for connections to at least six other bodies found at Gilgo Beach. He is also a prime suspect in the fourth murder body of who was found on the Long Island stretch in 2010 along with the three he is charged with at Suffolk County. He has pleaded not guilty to the three first and three second-degree murder charges.

Who is Philip Walker?

Walker, 56, allegedly stabbed his 63-year-old roommate to death in a Shirley motel on July 3. Walker is charged with second-degree murder. But Walker said Heuermann’s crimes are 'worse and unacceptable'. “Crimes against women and girls, especially killing them, is frowned upon here. A lot of us have sisters, daughters, mothers. No one likes guys who did crimes like that,” Walker said, who as per the New York Post was wearing a navy jumpsuit. He added: “Most people in here are from Long Island” and know about the Gilgo Beach murders.

'Everything shuts down when they move him to the yard'

Walker said he has never seen Heuermann because the jail stops all inmate movement when he is transported. “Everything shuts down when they move him to the yard, medical, whatever. Over the speakerphone, they said, ‘Stop all inmate movement,’” Walker stated that this happens about twice a day.

“We all know it’s for him,” Walker said. Reportedly Heuermann is not only being linked to other Gilgo Beach murders but investigations have spread across New Jersey and two other states South Carolina and Nevada where the suspect has owned property. Property records obtained by CNN cited Gilgo Beach murder suspect and his wife purchased two timeshare condos in Las Vegas between 2003 and 2005. One condo was sold later.

The trove of evidence and the DNA

The Gilgo Beach murders suspect was arrested on 13 July and charged a day later wherein prosecutors filed a 32-page court document to nail the suspect. Citing a trove of evidence which included finding a match of his DNA to the hair found in the bottom of the burlap bag of one of the victims. His DNA was obtained by the investigators in January from the Pizza crust which he had thrown in the garbage bin outside his office in Manhattan. Moreover, the FBI during its search allegedly found hundreds of unregistered firearms. The experts also revealed that it could have been the reason that he was arrested on the street and not at his home. Since his arrest, eerie stories from neighbors, classmates, and those who worked for him have surfaced describing his weird and suspenseful personality.
