NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Keanu Thompson, a stand-up comic and host of the podcast 'KeanuCast', was finishing up an on-air conversation with a caller on livestream on October 18, when gunshots were heard outside her window.
The shooting took place when an Army veteran, 32, and his wife, 29, who were out on their first date since the birth of their child ten days ago, were assaulted on the streets of New York.
According to the NYPD, the couple had been leaving Iggy's Bar in the Upper East Side just before 3 am when the incident unfolded. They got into a verbal dispute with another pair which then took a violent turn.
The attacker who pulled a gun during the argument shot seven times. The vet was struck on the inside of his left leg, while his partner sustained a cut to her face in the scuffle, reported the Daily Mail.
What was Keanu Thompson's reaction to the gunfire?
The live stream video on which the incident was captured is still up on Thompon's YouTube channel, and the clip from the stream of the moment has become viral on social media platform X.
Thompson is seen to flinch on camera as the first shot rings out. As screaming and continued gunfire can be heard from the street below, she appears visibly shaking.
At one point Thompson dives below her desk for safety, panicking, "Oh my f**king god."
As she crawls on the floor while on the phone, a woman's voice can be heard screaming outside.
Repeatedly saying, "Oh my f**king god, oh my f**king god," Thompson broke down on livestream.
Thompson told the New York Post at the scene later that night, "I heard screaming, like, 'no, no no'. I literally thought, I don't know, either end of days or some really horrifying fight."
She stated that she got down on the floor and crawled into her bathroom for safety until help arrived on the scene.
Why did Keanu Thompson hear gunfire?
The woman who was assaulted at the scene stated that she and her husband had been embroiled in a dispute over a photo booth while on a date night.
She revealed that her husband, who was shot, is an Army veteran. He is reported to be in stable condition at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Police stated that they are now looking for two suspects in the shooting who fled the scene on foot. The accused gunman has been described as a man in his 30s dressed in black.
