USMNT rumors: Berhalter to Swansea, Matarazzo on the US job, Steffen's price tag

Today's USMNT news includes Gregg Berhalter being linked with Swansea City, Pellegrino Matarazzo speaking about the US job and Zack Steffen's price tag has been reported.

USMNT news: Gregg Berhalter to Swansea City

Former USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter has been linked with replacing Russell Martin at Swansea City. Although, this story has since been denied by another source.

Wales Online had reported that "Swansea City are understood to be considering former USA boss Gregg Berhalter as one of their options for a manager once Russell Martin departs." However, Steven Goff of The Washington Post then tweeted "Berhalter is not getting the Swansea City job, I'm told. He'll end up somewhere else."

The links with the Championship side mean that Berhalter has probably realized that he will not be getting his job with the Stars and Stripes back. It was an unfortunate end after a decent World Cup where he guided his country to the last 16.

His assistant, Anthony Hudson, has since been the interim head coach of the USMNT and has done a good job. Hudson is expected to remain in charge until after the Gold Cup. He may then end up working with Berhalter again.

Berhalter being linked with a European job shows that his stock has not fallen that much despite everything that happened post-Qatar involving Gio Reyna's parents. Wherever Berhalter ends up he will be determined to prove to U.S. Soccer that they were wrong not to re-hire him.

USMNT news: Pellegrino Matarazzo on the US job

Pellegrino Matarazzo's Hoffenheim is all but safe heading into the final day of Bundesliga fixtures. The great work that the manager has done with the side has seen him linked with the vacant head coach role with the USMNT.

In an interview on ESPN's Futbol Americas podcast, when asked about the USA job, Matarazzo replied "I just look to be the best coach I can be and when something crosses my path then I decide whether or not that is the right step. Right now I'm just trying to be the best Hoffenheim trainer I can be and we'll see what the future holds."

Matarazzo is the only American head coach in one of Europe's top five leagues and should therefore be considered for the Stars and Stripes.

USMNT news: Zack Steffen's price tag

Zack Steffen looks to leave Manchester City with teams in Germany as well as Middlesbrough -who he has been on loan at this season- interested in signing the goalkeeper.

The Northern Echo has revealed that "Manchester City are set to demand a fee of around £10m, while Steffen's contract at the Etihad is understood to be worth more than £60,000-a-week, putting him well beyond Boro's current wage ceiling."

Steffen has played in Germany before during spells with Freiburg and Fortuna Dusseldorf. A return to the Bundesliga would be a great move for the player who is competing with Matt Turner for the No.1 jersey with the USMNT.
