Tom Cruise slammed for 'personally calling' execs to grab IMAX screens as 'MI7' vs 'Oppenheimer' battle hots up

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Cruise is going to great lengths to ensure an extended run on premium screens for his upcoming action thriller, 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One'. He is personally engaging with studio executives through phone calls to secure a longer run time. The film is set to release on July 12.

As the seventh installment of the franchise prepares for its theatrical release, it faces stiff competition from Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film, 'Oppenheimer' and Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie', both set to release on July 21. According to Puck, the 60-year-old actor is leveraging his extensive influence and reputation to persuade executives to reduce the three-week exclusive run on IMAX screens currently allotted to 'Oppenheimer'. Cruise is utilizing the clout he has amassed throughout his career in an effort to secure a more favorable arrangement.

For the initial week following its release, 'Mission: Impossible 7' will enjoy exclusive access to premium IMAX screens. However, once that week ends, 'Oppenheimer' will take over and secure a rare three-week exclusive run across all IMAX screens. This extended exclusivity is highly uncommon for adult dramas like the one Nolan is rumored to have created.

'You had your chance with Maverick'

However, Cruise is facing criticism on social media as some people expressed their disapproval of his efforts to secure a long run for his movie, which could potentially reduce the availability of screens for the highly anticipated 'Oppenheimer' and 'Barbie'. One user mocked Cruise, saying, "Wait till he finds out that a lot of people didn’t even know that a new mission impossible movie is coming out. This month belongs to Oppenheimer and Barbie." Another wrote, "Come on Tom! You had your chance with Maverick, give others a chance too!" A third wrote, "Cillian Murphy owns Tom Cruise." A fourth added, "The war was never about Barbie vs. Oppenheimer. It was about Barbie and Oppenheimer vs. Tom Cruise all along."

'Just push your film back'

One wrote, "So he thinks he’s a big enough name-and not at all past his prime-to open the 7th movie of a series (based on a tv show) as opposed to original works on a much more interesting-not to mention relevant-subject matter? LOL dude," while another added, "People have seen like 6 mission impossible movies so chill and just push your film back because the 2 biggest movie events of the summer (Oppenheimer and Barbie) are not moving, certainly not for a movie that has the same plot as all it's other movies in the series." A third sympathized with Cruise, saying, "I probably won’t even be seen MI in theaters (as opposed to Barbie and Oppenheimer) but honestly, I get it. he’s risking his life for some of these stunts and just wants people to get to see it on the biggest screen offered."
