LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Today’ host Carson Daly got replaced by a beloved fill-in host for Memorial Day broadcast after an emotional week. Daly took a few days off last week to help give an emotional farewell to his best friend, Blake Shelton, as the latter bid his goodbyes to ‘The Voice’ Season 23.
The former 'Total Request Live' star Carson Daly was seen missing from Monday, May 29 ‘Today’ broadcast and was replaced by host Jacob Soboroff. Last week, he took the first few days off from the morning show to be there in Los Angeles for his best friend Blake Shelton. He hosted the final episodes of ‘The Voice’ which marked the last season of the OG Coach. The season finale of 'The Voice' got extra emotional after Daly joined Blake during his final run as a judge. However, his absence was filled in temporarily as a bunch of hosts went missing from the Memorial Day segment.

Jacob Soboroff saves the day
After celebrating Blake’s final episode of ‘The Voice’, Daly returned to ‘Today’ on Thursday, May 25. However, he again went missing on the morning show for Memorial Day, and his position was filled by another beloved host, Jacob Soboroff. Alongside Daly’s absence, his co-stars Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones, and Savannah Guthrie were also absent from the morning show. But Melvin and Jones’s ‘Today Third Hour’ aired a pre-recorded episode instead of a live stream.
Since the spinoff edition of the morning show aired a pre-filmed episode, no hosts appeared on the show. Meanwhile, for the flagship series, Peter Alexander, Kristen Welker, and Jacob Soboroff took over the show temporarily. Jacob stepped in for Daly’s usual pop culture segment, 'PopStart' whereas Welker filled in for Kotb for the 'Morning Boost' segment.
Carson Daly’s emotional yet hilarious gift
After Daly flew back to host the morning show, he opened up about his emotional week on Thursday, May 25, broadcast. He shared a sweet clip from ‘The Voice’ finale of his surprise to Blake with a hilarious gift. He stated, “And just like any other coach when it's time to walk away from the game, throw in the towel, pack it in, and call it a day, we commemorate this big moment like any other great American athlete. Buddy, it is time to retire the Blake Shelton Jean Jacket”. The camera then moved toward the jacket hanging on the wall with his name, ‘The Voice’, and the seasons he had won carved on it.
After the clip, Daly jokingly said, “He’s so old he kept telling me in that moment, he’s like, ‘What? Where is it? I can’t see it.’ He couldn’t see it!” Meanwhile, Kotb shared her opinion about the two’s friendship and how Daly likes to “joke” about Blake. She also referred Daly’s warming Instagram tribute to his friend where he shared a series of photos with a sweet caption, “Today’s just gonna be weird! No other way to put it. For over 12 years I’ve watched the cowboy do his thing on @nbcthevoice & we have laughed & had fun, literally the entire time. Thank you buddy! Enjoy your big red chair retirement, you’ve earned it! Now let’s go make a drink! (Bring some ice over from your room, they never gave me any😂) #OneMoreShow”.
