KUSNACHT, SWITZERLAND: Tina Turner reportedly had severe PTSD episodes for decades after she left her first husband Ike Turner. The icon was married to the late musician from 1962 to 1978 and reportedly faced physical and mental abuse at his hands. The pain was so much that she apparently even considered taking her own life.

Later in life, Tina shifted to Switzerland and got married for the second time to Erwin Bach. She, however, could not forget her traumatic past even though she tried to forgive Ike to move on. “By not forgiving, you suffer, because you think about it over and over. And for what?" she said in a 2021 HBO documentary ‘Tina’, the “Queen of Rock 'n' Roll". In the same documentary, she bluntly stated, “It wasn't a good life. The good did not balance the bad,” adding, “I had an abusive life, there's no other way to tell the story!”, as reported by NY Post.

‘I began to think about death’

She also added, “I was surviving, but not living. I began to think about death. If my kidneys were going and it was time for me to die, I could accept that.” Besides, her widower once shared about her issues, resulting from her past life with Ike. Bach explained, “It's like when soldiers come back from war.”

In 2018, the ‘We Don’t Need Another Hero’ singer spoke frankly about her marriage to Ike. She told PEOPLE, “There was violence because he had this fear that I was going to leave him.” Tina then went on to say, “As an old person, I have forgiven him, but it would not work with him. He asked for one more tour with me, and I said, ‘No, absolutely not.’ Ike wasn’t someone you could forgive and allow him back in.”

“It’s all gone, all forgotten. I don’t know what the dreams are about. The dreams are still there — not the violence, the anger. I wonder if I’m still holding something in,” she added.

‘I’d slap her or something like that’

During a 1990 interview, Ike Turner, who died in 2007 from a drug overdose, talked about Tina and their stormy life together. He reportedly said, “All the fights Tina and I had were about her being sad about something. I get real emotional if you’re worrying and don’t tell me what it is. Then I can’t think about nothing else. So I’d slap her or something like that.”

News of Tina’s death was shared by her representatives in a tweet, which read, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and boundless passion for life, she enchanted fans worldwide and inspired future stars. We say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us her greatest work; her music. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”

Bryan Adams posted, “RIP my dear @tinaturner I'll be forever grateful for you bringing me on tour, going in the studio together and most of all, being your friend.
