BROOKLYN, NEW YORK: A disturbing video has emerged that shows the moment when poet and New York activist Ryan Carson, 32, was fatally stabbed to death in front of his girlfriend in the early hours of Monday, October 2, in Brooklyn.
According to CBS News, Carson was stabbed at roughly 4 am in the Crown Heights neighborhood while he was standing on the street with his girlfriend, Claudia.
The terrifying episode was caught on surveillance video, shocking the locals and prompting concerns about the city's escalating crime rates.
The attacker, who is still at large and unidentified, approached Carson and his girlfriend and provocatively questioned them before stabbing Carson repeatedly in the chest.
Carson was immediately taken to Kings County Hospital Center, but he died from his wounds - one of which pierced his heart.
What does the harrowing CCTV footage show?
In the footage, Carson and his girlfriend can be seen conversing while sitting on a bench at a bus stop in Bedford-Stuyvesant. They stood up and started walking down the block, passing a man who was wearing a dark sweatshirt.
The man was observed kicking scooters that were parked close to the curb just in front of them. He asked, "What the f**k are you looking at?" before turning to face them and repeatedly stabbing Carson.
Following the vicious attack, the attacker briefly turns around and spits on the victim's girlfriend before kicking the wounded and fallen Carson.
The attacker is yelled at by a woman who appears in the video and helps the wounded Carson.
Carson was taken to Kings County Hospital Center but tragically died from his injuries because the stab wounds had penetrated his heart.
The incident occurred at Lafayette Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard, close to the Bedford-Nostrand avenues train station, as per Daily Mail.
With a recent focus on enhancing recycling and solid waste management, Carson was a well-known activist and a seasoned campaign manager for the New York Public Research Group.
According to acquaintances who spoke to the New York Post, his activity focused on environmental issues and sustainability.
The killing was caught on footage, and the images are currently trending online.

Internet users took to X (formerly Twitter) to question the horrifying footage. One X user noted, "Think deep this isn’t random and isn’t by coincidence very planned will see soon …."
A second user claimed, "This doesn't seem right to me. USUALLY, if someone is breaking into a car, it's for a reason and they must really want it. They're focused on getting in and getting out. That's not what this guy did. He made noise and actions that would shock ANYONE, on purpose, to use it as a distraction, then beamed attention to the victim IMMEDIATELY. This stinks guys."
"Dude got murdered by a guy half his size without fighting back. This might be the most brutal lesson for liberals in the history of the internet," said a third user.
Another user blamed New York laws and wrote, "With the way New York's laws are, if the suspect is caught, he might be out on the street within a few days."
