Hideki Matsuyama isn't the betting favorite, but based on how he's been playing so far this week, I think he should be. He sits in solo second place heading into Round 3 at 7-under par, and there's one thing about his game through the first two rounds that should have the rest of the field concerned; he's putting the lights out.
Matsuyama, infamously known as one of the best ball strikers on Tour but one of the worst putters, is finally starting to hit it well with the flat stick. Heading into Round 3, he has gained +1.40 strokes on the field with his putting, something we rarely see from him.
He is, of course, striking the ball purely as he always does, gaining +2.85 strokes on the field with his approach game.
If his putter can stay hot, he might just end up running away with this thing.
Stephan Jaeger +15000
I gave you one golfer with short odds, now it's time to give you a golfer with long odds. No bet on the board is more enticing at 150/1 odds than Stephan Jaeger.
He enters Round 3 at 2-under par, so six strokes back from the lead. There's no doubt he has some work to do, but his approach game has been dialed in this week. In fact, he's fourth in the field this event in strokes gained: approach, gaining +2.35 strokes with his irons.
He has also been playing good golf over the past month, sporting a T18 at the Mexico Open and a T11 at the AT&T Byron Nelson.
He's worth a sprinkle at 150/1.
