'The Bachelorette' Season 20: Charity receives flak for sending Tanner home, fans say 'he deserves more time'

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA: 'The Bachelorette' Season 20 lead Charity Lawson is already handing out Hometown Date roses five weeks in, and with four out of six suitors to pick from, the stakes have never been higher. Charity spices things up a bit in Episode 5 by taking the gang to New Orleans, Louisiana.

The typical cocktail reception and rose ceremony are canceled, and Hometown Roses are distributed during two one-on-one dates, an unpleasant two-on-one date, and an abruptly cut-short group date. Fans were left disappointed once the episode wrapped, and it ended on a sad note with one of the contestants exiting. Who was sent home in Week 5? The decision was made when Charity was unable to select who would attend Hometowns.

'Am I making the right choice?'

Charity informed Tanner Courtad and Xavier Bonner that giving away the last rose was the most difficult thing she had ever done. As a result, she opted not to do it. She'd meet them both that night, and they'd take it from there. Charity revealed in her confessional, "Right now, I'm absolutely torn, and I have no idea. That's where the fear comes in—am I making the right choice? I'm trying to not make the wrong decision. It's terrifying." She admitted that her indecisiveness had harmed her in previous relationships.

Charity was at first perplexed, but she eventually stated that her gut instinct was prompting her to do what seemed right. "I feel an immense level of sadness. My heart is aching. Tonight will not be easy." Tanner's hotel room was visited by Charity. She told him how it hurt her to attempt to make sense of traveling to his hometown. Charity stated that because they did not have a one-on-one date, his family would have many concerns about their connection. Someone would propose in three weeks, and she wondered if it made sense for them. Charity explained that it was difficult for her, since she didn't want to let him down and bring him anguish. She informed him that it hurt since he was such a wonderful guy. Tanner assured her that she was, too, and that everything was fine. They said their final goodbyes with an embrace.

'If I was Tanner I would send myself home'

Angry Bachelor Nation fans tweeted as soon as Tanner made his exit, "I’m sorry but all of the time wasted on Brayden could have been spent getting to know Tanner." Another person chimed in, "If I was Tanner I would send myself home. That’s twice he’s been in the presence of a rose and she’s been hesitant." Others expressed regret, "Watching Tanner’s exit speech and wondering where this sweet king was the whole season." A fourth user tweeted, "Tanner’s fine as hell and deserves more time im so tired of seans whiny a**."

Some users threw a jab at 'The Bachelorette', "Poor Charity having to introduce herself to and break up with Tanner at the same time." Others wished, "Tanner… see you in paradise my guy." One Twitter user wrote, "Tanner just needed more time and actually needed a one on one." Another person added, "Oh my god charity, please just let tanner punch his ticket to mexico already."

'The Bachelorette' Season 20 returns with new episodes on ABC on Mondays at 8 pm ET.
