LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Danny Masterson, known for his role in the popular series 'That '70s Show' has been convicted on two counts of rape in his second trial held in a Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday, May 31. The jury, however, could not reach a unanimous verdict on the third count, which involved allegations of sexual assault against a long-time girlfriend.
Following the announcement of the verdict, Masterson was taken into custody, escorted out of the courtroom in handcuffs. With the guilty verdict on two of the three rape charges, the 47-year-old now faces the possibility of a maximum prison sentence of 30 years. He is currently being held without bail, awaiting his sentencing, the date of which is yet to be determined.
Danny Masterson's abuse spanned during his career peak
During the trial, the complete identities of Masterson's accusers were not revealed. The court identified them as Chrissy B, Jen B, and N Trout. All three women involved were members of the Church of Scientology during the relevant period, where Masterson remains a member as well.
These women alleged that ‘The Ranch’ star provided them with beverages laced with drugs and proceeded to sexually assault them. These incidents are said to have occurred during Masterson's heyday in the entertainment industry, spanning from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s.
'Where do you see yourself in five years?'
As a result of his guilty verdict, supporters of the popular sitcom 'That '70s Show' assert that Masterson has tarnished the enjoyment of watching the series, contending that it will never regain the same allure. One user tweeted, "I have been binge watching the show on Peacock for the last few days, going to have a hard time watching going forward. Elated that justice is served & my well wishes to the victims and their continued healing. If anything, his character Hyde was destined to be behind bars." Another claimed, "To be fair he was a crappy character on the show too. I don't let it ruin it for me. I just figure this is how he is when he grew up." A third shared a clip of a sequence where the characters of the show are questioned, "Where do you see yourself in five years?" and Masterson known as 'Hyde' allegedly responds, "Prison." Another tweeted, "Never watched That 70s Show. But I HAVE watched The Ranch. Which is now ruined for me." "I'm glad he is going to prison. It won't ruin the show for me cuz I never liked him anyways," read a tweet. Another fan of the show tweeted, "Meet rapist Danny Masterson, who has now ruined That 70s Show for me," a sentiment echoed in another tweet that read: "That 70s show just got ruined for me"
