SANCHEZ, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Controversial American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, has been apprehended in the Dominican Republic for repeatedly assaulting two music producers.
The Public Ministry of the Dominican Republic released an arrest warrant against the distinctive rainbow-colored hair rapper on Sunday night, October 15, at Hotel Balcones del Atlantico in Sanchez, a municipality in the Samana province.
The rapper was arranging a flight to get out of the country
Tekashi 6ix9ine, who is infamous for his aggressive style of rapping, was apparently making arrangements for a flight to get out of the country after the incident, according to TMZ.
However, the charter company followed protocol and checked with immigration for outstanding warrants.
Footage showed several fans swarming authorities as they escorted Tekashi into the police station on Sunday evening, October 15.
According to the Public Ministry, the incident involving the rapper occurred at a recording studio in the province of La Vega at around 1 am on Friday, October 13.
Tekashi 6ix9ine assaulted two music producers
Tekashi and his team allegedly severely assaulted two music producers, including Nelson Alfonso Hilario Garcia, after they got into it with his girlfriend Yailin.
Producer Diamond La Mafia revealed to Diario Libre that Tekashi threatened him over video chat after beating up two of his producers.
"He grabbed both of my producers, they destroyed my studio, through no fault of their own, without knowing him," Diamond La Mafia told the outlet.
"Also threatening me by video call to fight, saying he is armed," he added.
As per the Public Ministry, Hilario Garcia suffered blunt force trauma to the face and head. Diamond La Mafia claims the Brooklyn rapper was jealous over his relationship with Yailin.
Officials said that they are looking to interview Tekashi's girlfriend about what led up to the incident. Tekashi is expected to appear in a courtroom in La Vega on Monday, October 16.
Tekashi 6ix9ine's previous legal issues
Tekashi 6ix9ine was involved in a child sexual performance charge from 2015. In October of that year, he pled guilty to a felony count of use of a child in a sexual performance.
He was charged with three counts of the offense after a February 2015 incident in which he had physical contact with a 13-year-old girl and later distributed videos of the incident online as part of a music video.
In a November 2017 interview, he claimed to have had "no sexual contact" with the girl and denied knowing she was a minor.
He also claimed to have been 17 at the time of the incident, though the birth date listed in the complaint against him and in his statement to the police shows he was 18.
On October 27, 2018, two members of his entourage were involved in a shooting in Manhattan and were subsequently charged with gang assault.
Prior to his sexual misconduct charges, he served jail time as a minor for assault and the sale of heroin.
