LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Taylor Swift has made history by earning seven nominations for Song of the Year at the Grammys, surpassing Paul McCartney and Lionel Richie who have six each.

The singer's recent Hot 100 No 1 single 'Anti Hero' is a potential winner at the forthcoming ceremony, according to the Recording Academy.

Taylor Swift makes history with seven Song of the Year nods

Forbes reports Swift has broken the all-time record for the most nominations for any person in the Song of the Year category for songwriters with her hit ‘Anti-Hero.'

The song topped the Hot 100 chart and is one of the eight contenders for the prestigious award at the upcoming Grammys.

As per Variety, 'Anti Hero' has officially become Taylor Swift‘s biggest single and topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight non-consecutive weeks.

Swift has been nominated for Song of the Year six times, tying with Paul McCartney and Lionel Richie.

Now, she has surpassed them with her seventh nomination, showing her remarkable songwriting skills and popularity.

Taylor Swift’s first Song of the Year nomination came in 2010

Swift’s first Song of the Year nomination came in 2010 for ‘You Belong With Me.'

She then received two consecutive nods in 2015 and 2016 for ‘Shake It Off’ and ‘Blank Space’ from her album ‘1989.'

She repeated the feat in 2020 and 2021 with ‘Lover’ and ‘Cardigan’ from her albums ‘Lover’ and ‘Folklore.'

She was also nominated last year for ‘All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (The Short Film)’, but lost to Bonnie Raitt’s ‘Just Like That.'

‘Anti-Hero’ is nominated alongside fellow Hot 100 smashes like Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’, SZA’s ‘Kill Bill’, Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Vampire’, Dua Lipa’s ‘Dance the Night’, and Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For?’

Some tunes that weren’t as commercially successful, such as Jon Batiste’s ‘Butterfly’ and Lana Del Rey’s ‘A&W’, are also in the running, the publication noted.

Other nominations for Song of the Year

BBC reported others nominated for Song of the Year include Lana Del Rey and Dua Lipa. Billie Eilish, Jon Batiste, and SZA have also been recognized.

The station noted that it was difficult for this years for artists to make the Grammys shortlist this year due to new rules.

This is due to the organizers slashing the number of nominations available in each category from 10 to eight.

This year's Grammy Awards take place on February 4 in Los Angeles.
