Sofyan Amrabat: Fiorentina CEO drops huge hint over Man Utd target's future

Fiorentina CEO Joe Barone has dropped a huge hint about Sofyan Amrabat's future at the club amid interest from Manchester United.

World Cup star Amrabat has been heavily linked with a move away from Fiorentina this summer, with Man Utd long being seen as the player's most likely destination.

90min understands that Man Utd have now agreed personal terms with Amrabat, and even provisionally settled on a fee in the region of £29m with his current club in order to sign him.

However, the transfer has been considered conditional based upon the Red Devils' capacity to shift on a bulk of their midfield deadwood, and the club are keen to sell either Donny van de Beek or Scott McTominay before officially signing Amrabat.

With the process of selling either of these players dragging on - Man Utd rejected a £30m bid for McTominay and they're also struggling to agree terms with Real Sociedad regarding Van de Beek - sources have stated that Amrabat has been left frustrated by the situation.

While Amrabat remains in limbo, the midfielder has also been dropped by Fiorentina for the start of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign. The Moroccan didn't play a single minute of the club's impressive 4-1 win over Genoa at Luigi Ferraris on Saturday, with Arthur Melo and goalscorer Rolando Mandragora playing in his stead.

Speaking to DAZN (via Labaro Viola) about Amrabat and the decision to drop him for the first game of the campaign, Fiorentina CEO Barone has hinted that the club are very much willing to let the "unhappy" player leave this club before the end of the transfer window.

"We are always ready for other entries and exits," Barrone said. "If there’s someone who isn’t happy, we can satisfy him between now and the end of the transfer window."

United are seemingly in desperate need of midfield reinforcements having been thoroughly dominated by the midfield of Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday in a damaging 2-0 defeat in north London.
