LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: June 6 is not just special for the stars of ‘Sex and the City’ but also for its fans and followers. This year’s June 6 became more special as the iconic show completed 25 years, leaving people nostalgic. To mark the day, three of the leading ladies of the comedy-drama series – Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon – got together for a reunion.
However, Kim Cattrall was nowhere to be seen as she and Parker reportedly had a fallout. HBO shared an Instagram video of the special gathering, which showed Parker, who played Carrie Bradshaw, saying, “Twenty-five years, oh my gosh, what has happened in our lives in 25 years? We've created families. We're creating relationships. I realize that you were having the same experience in your lives, and we love you for joining us for so many years.”
‘We just want to say thank you’
Nixon shared, “Thank you for loving us and tuning in and giving us the opportunity.” Davis added, “We just want to say thank you for supporting us because that's how come we've been able to do it for so long.”
The ‘And Just Like That…’ Instagram page also expressed its love for the original series by writing, “And just like that, Sex and The City turns 25 years old! ? Click the link in our bio to revisit the friendships, fashion, and fun that made us who we are today ?#SATC25.” The post included some of the memorable scenes from the drama.
‘You’ve got to listen to somebody’
The 25th-anniversary celebration came as after reports claimed that Cattrall will return to the screen as Samantha Jones in ‘And Just Like That’ Season 2. However, during the shooting of her cameo, she did not meet any of her co-stars. The 66-year-old was not cast in the Season 1 of the reboot and at the time, Parker said, “We did not ask her to be part of this because she made it clear that that wasn’t something she wanted to pursue, and it no longer felt comfortable for us, and so it didn’t occur to us.”
“That’s not ‘slamming’ her, it’s just learning. You’ve got to listen to somebody, and if they’re publicly talking about something and it doesn’t suggest it’s someplace they want to be, or a person they want to play, or an environment in which they want to be, you get to an age where you’re like, ‘Well, we hear that,’” the 58-year-old TV producer added.
‘She filmed it by herself'
But for the season finale, Cattrall came on board because “she was motivated by two main things - her own personal closure, plus the opportunity to give SATC fans a chance to see Samantha on-screen one last time,” as per an insider, The Mirror reported. Also, according to another tipster as reported by Page Six, “Kim had two stipulations —one, that she would not act with any of the other girls, and two, she did not want to see Michael Patrick King.”
The first source spilled that the ‘How I Met Your Father’ star was “compensated extremely well” for the brief role. “There was zero interest or desire on her part to interact with the cast, so she filmed it by herself,” the insider said, before adding, “She wanted to be involved in the closing of this particular chapter and everyone's thrilled they got her back.”
