NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former ‘Good Morning America’ star Sam Champion was recently surprised on-air after learning that a guest on the show is the twin brother of one of his ABC co-stars.
The 62-year-old was co-anchoring Eyewitness News@10 with Shirleen Allicot and Mike Marza and welcomed Dr Desmond Sutton to the show.
However, during the episode, it struck Champion that the guest’s surname is similar to one of his co-stars. The former ‘GMA’ star inquired about Sutton’s relatives as he “looked familiar” to all the co-hosts.
Champion and his co-hosts were stumped to learn that the guest on the show is in fact the twin brother of ABC’s News medical correspondent Dr Darien Sutton.
Sam Champion was shocked to learn about the relationship between a guest and his co-star
The former ‘GMA’ meteorologist recently shared a clip on his Instagram from the show where he introduced Dr Desmond Sutton via video chat.
Immediately after acknowledging Dr Desmond, Champion and his co-stars, Marza and Allicot, appeared to have an epiphany.
Sam said, "We just all noticed at the same time that you look very familiar to us.”
He then went on to ask Dr Sutton, “Do you, sir, have a twin?”
After Dr Desmond replied, “Yes”, the ex-GMA star asked, "Does your twin work for ABC News?”
To everyone’s surprise, Dr Desmond admitted that his twin did indeed work for ABC News.
This led to Allicot revealing that ABC medical correspondent Dr Darien Sutton was Dr Desmond's identical sibling.
After sharing this moment on his Instagram profile, Champion captioned the post, “WATCH a true and honest SURPRISE unfolds on this morning’s 10 AM show!!!!!, We had no idea this morning’s medical expert on the show … is the TWIN brother of our ABC news medical contributor!…”
He concluded, “Until in the commercial break, he looked awfully familiar. #ewn10am”
