'Saint X' Episode 6 Review: Emily fights her demons as Alison’s murder investigation wears off

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hulu has been a home for many fruitful adaptations over the years. Ranging from Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Handmaid's Tale’ to ‘Little Fires Everywhere,’ the US streaming platform has cracked a formula to adapt modern-day classics into shows. For now, Alexis Schiatkin’s 2020 novel, ‘Saint X’ has also found its way to the screen through Hulu. It’s a story about a young girl on the cups of womanhood who is murdered on a peaceful Caribbean island while vacationing with her family. The show is now well into its last leg and the latest episode has made matters worse for one of the show’s protagonists. The show is split into two timelines — past and present where Alison Thomas’ sister, Emily is investigating the matter in present-day New York after the case was closed by the authorities on the island.

Emily has now grown up and has found one of the culprits of her sister's murder is in New York working as a cab driver. His name is Gogo and Emily is doing all she can to get close to him and learn the truth about her sister’s murder. Edwyn, the other culprit, and Gogo were identified as the two suspects in Alison’s murder but were let go due to a lack of evidence. In the latest episode titled “Loose Threads of the Past,” Emily has crossed all boundaries of obsession in nailing the culprit of Alison’s murder. She’s way over the line which has started to affect the people around her. But she has only one agenda — find the truth behind Alison’s murder and end this lifelong search for answers. But she’s paying a heavy price.

Alison's case in 'Saint X' has striking resemblance to real-life disappearance of Natalee Holloway

Is anyone left to help Emily?

In the past, Emily’s parents, Bill and Mia worry about her and want her to shield herself from all the news of Alison’s murder. They shift to California for her sake and Emily starts afresh but sees her parents stop the investigation into her sister’s murder. This doesn’t sit well with her. At present, Josh, Emily’s boyfriend confronts her about her firing and doubts her about seeing someone else with an indication that she’s going out with Gogo. Emily clears this but at the dinner with her parents, Josh tries to keep things calm but Emily spills out. She states that she’s stopped therapy and is indeed fired from her job. She confesses her need to know what happened to Alison and blames her parents for giving up the investigation entirely.

With a doubtful and unsupportive boyfriend, parents who question her, and without a job, Emily has nowhere to be. She can’t see anyone helping her at this hour. She’s truly alone and will have to find the answers herself. At this hour, she wants to know about the contents of the letter in Gogo’s possession. There’s only Gogo left who Emily thinks has all the answers to her puzzle. But when she sees him hitting a man towards the end, her doubts wither away, leading her to believe that this man could have murdered Alison.

What’s next for Emily?

In the past when Alison and Emily are at the resort, Alison is still hellbent on seeing Edwyn while Tyler warns her of Edwyn’s motives. But at present in New York, no one could warn Emily of Gogo’s past motives and intentions. Emily will have to take the road less traveled, a dangerous path that might not be fully rewarding, and fail to quench the thirst for the truth. However, the next episode offers a glimpse into Emily’s ongoing fight to learn the truth.

The official synopsis of Episode 7 titled ‘The Goat Witch and the Sinner’ reads, “Emily promises Josh she will seek help. We learn about Young Edwin’s secret. Alison tries to figure out the most exciting way to spend her last night of vacation.”
