CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: R Kelly, the disgraced Grammy-winning singer, is fearing for his life in Chicago's Metropolitan Correctional Centre. The 56-year-old singer who is serving 30 years in prison for racketeering and sex trafficking alleges the operation he underwent for blood clots in his leg was botched up and that the prison staff was negligent and didn't even conduct an X-ray.
In the audio obtained by RapHouseTV from Kelly's cell, the R&B singer expressed he does not "deserve to die." He further claimed that the diagnosis of the leg was just a guess and no prior testing was conducted to look into what was really up with him.
'I’m not supposed to die this way'
The 'I Admit' singer, in the interview, said that animals were receiving better treatment than what he was receiving while serving prison time. “Somebody miscommunicated or somebody took a guess at what’s going on with my leg.” Kelly said adding, “I’m not supposed to die this way,” The 'I Believe I Can Fly' singer further warned, "You’re not even supposed to take a chance on that," Radar Online also reported Kelly as saying in the audio.
The infamous singer pleaded with those listening to his interview to judge how they would react if their family members or close ones were in the same situation. "If it was your child, if it was your father, if it was your mother, somebody you loved, you would’ve said, ‘Go to the doctor. We need to get that checked out. We need to look at that. We need to X-ray that.’”
'They didn’t even conduct X-ray'
The convicted 'Step in the Name of Love' alleged animal-like treatment he was enduring in prison and that he was speaking out of fear. He further claimed there wasn't an X-ray conducted prior to the procedure to determine the exact cause of his illness. “They didn’t even conduct X-ray. And that’s why I’m speaking out on this, because I’m scared for my life in that area. And who wouldn’t be. They treat animals better than that.”
'Every prison deserves medical attention, medical care'
Kelly's attorney Jennifer Bonjean had also slammed the Metropolitan Correctional Center's medical staff for their negligence in caring for her client in March saying that the MCC's failure to provide convicts with medical treatment is intolerable. "It's not just because it's R Kelly," Bonjean told ABC7 at the time. “Every prison deserves medical attention, medical care. The MCC is required to address these things in a competent fashion.” Kelly whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly was also convicted on three charges of child pornography and three charges of enticement of a minor in Chicago in September 2022. In February he was sentenced to 20 years, 19 of which run concurrently to his 30-year sentencing in New York in June 2022.
