WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO: Back in the month of May 2023, Golf influencer and internet sensation Paige Spiranac shared her picks for the PGA Tour Championship, as well as her analysis of each golfer's strengths and flaws on Twitter. Outspoken Spiranac is known for her analytical insights on the sport and encourages her followers to contribute their own ideas in the comments section. However, back then the golf world was greatly taken aback when Paige Spiranac did not pick Rory McIlroy as one of the top contenders.
Since then, the World No. 3, Rory Mcllroy had four top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish at the US Open. To make things even better, Spiranac's belief in McIlroy's abilities appears to have returned as well.
'He has broken my heart one too many times'
In a Tweet, Paige Spiranac voiced her support for Rory McIlroy ahead of the DP World Tour. The Genesis Scottish Open is all ready to kick off at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick. Many of the top players in the world participate in the competition, which is the last stop before the Open Championship. Also this time, nothing has changed either. Eight of the top 10 golfers according to the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) are competing in the tournament's 2023 edition, including Rory McIlroy! McIlroy is the overwhelming favorite to win the Scottish Open given his recent series of productive outings. Even Paige Spiranac, the darling of the golf world, included the 34-year-old in her list of top picks for the competition!
She said, "I said I would never pick him again for a major after he has broken my heart one too many times,” shared Spiranac. “So why not pick him for the Scottish Open?” Golfers Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, and Rickie Fowler are also among Spiranac’s favorites for the title this year."
When Rory McIlroy couldn't make to Spiranac's list
Spiranac, while mentioning the names of her top picks for the PGA tournament, didn't appreciate Rory McIlroy, a golfer who has frequently disappointed her with erratic results. She made the decision not to pick McIlroy even though she was aware that the outcome suited his strategy.
This was a shift from her past belief in the gifted golfer. The 30-year-old beauty was really worried about his chances of winning the major. McIlroy had missed cuts at the Players Championship and the Masters back-to-back before the competition, followed by another forgettable performance at Quail Hollow. However, the Irishman performed remarkably well in Oak Hill, finishing in a T7 position.
