NFL Rumors: Dalvin Cook feeds Jets connection with another enthusiastic tweet

Former Vikings Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook is keeping the NFL rumor mill swirling on social media with commentary on the Jets as a potential free agency suitor.

Dalvin Cook is a bit of a free-agency flirt.

Ever since the Vikings released the four-time Pro Bowler, Cook has given certain teams reason to believe he'd be interested in signing with them.

Add the Jets to that equation.

Is Dalvin Cook a viable option for the Jets?

Jets tight end Tyler Conklin gave his opinion that the Jets would have room for Cook. Do they?

New York does have cap space, sitting eight in the NFL with $21 million available, per Spotrac.

And Cook would bring a veteran presence to a very young running back room.

Breece Hall led the team in rushing last year despite playing in just seven games before suffering a season-ending injury. He's 21 years old. The oldest player in the room is 23-year-old Michael Carter, who was the teams second-leading rusher with 402 yards. Both are back along with Zonovan Knight and fifth-round draft pick Israel Abanikanda.

However, there should be heated competition for Cook from teams like the Dolphins and the Patriots. That's what makes his free agency all the more intriguing with a clear focus on the AFC East emerging.

It's not just about getting Cook. It's about keeping him away from rivals. If the Jets fail to sign him, there's a good chance they'll be seeing him in a divisional contest this fall.

Then again, Cook could be playing these AFC East teams against each other in hopes of getting the best deal possible.

The Vikings struck gold with Cook in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He emerged in 2019 as one of the most fearsome backs in the league, scoring 13 touchdowns en route to the first of four Pro Bowl nods. In 2020 he put up monstrous numbers with 1,557 yards and 16 touchdowns.

However, his price tag and waning efficiency prompted the Vikings to cut him loose this offseason.
